    Loving attentive staff, clean facility

I moved my mother here and have been very pleased - the staff are loving, attentive, and treat residents like family. The facility is clean, modern and home-like with lovely grounds, pet-friendly apartments/patio homes, great dining and plenty of activities; therapy and the warm, ramped pool were especially helpful. Management is professional and communicative, and care feels compassionate and reliable. I'd recommend this community for active or assisted seniors.

    Summary of reviews

Shalom Park presents as a well-kept, campus-style senior community with many facility-level strengths. Multiple reviewers describe a bright, renovated interior, attractive landscaping and walkable outdoor spaces, and a variety of housing options from independent apartments and patio homes to assisted living and skilled nursing. On-site amenities commonly cited include a warm-water pool with ramp access, fitness equipment, a café and small store, conference space, and rehabilitation/physical-therapy services. The environment and certain staff interactions are frequently described as home-like and welcoming.

Care quality and staffing impressions are mixed. Many accounts praise compassionate, attentive CNAs and nurses, an LPN presence around the clock, responsive nursing leadership, and strong end-of-life support that provides emotional reassurance to families. At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns: staffing shortages or inconsistent staff-to-resident ratios, variability in staff professionalism and timeliness, and gaps in dementia-specific training. Several families described issues with attention to personal-care tasks and grooming assistance; others praised the individual aides who provide exceptional, individualized care.

Dining and activities are highlighted as clear strengths for many residents. The community offers a wide range of daily programming (bingo, music, crafts, visiting animals, choir, discussion groups), regular off-site outings to museums and concerts, and flexible dining options including multiple venues and an any-time menu. However, reviewers also note inconsistent meal quality and occasional difficulties accommodating special diets, and some residents find the separation of dining buildings and housing creates practical challenges for those with cognitive or mobility limitations.

Facility operations and management present a mixed picture. Positive comments emphasize accommodating and knowledgeable admissions staff, prompt resolution of some issues, and transparent safety features for many residents. Conversely, there are consistent concerns about communication and grievance handling, clarity of billing and extra charges, and security of personal belongings. A limited number of accounts described serious alleged staff misconduct and concerns about how incidents were handled; these accounts underscore the need for clear incident-response processes and stronger oversight mechanisms.

Overall pattern: Shalom Park offers substantial physical amenities, a broad activity program, and many examples of compassionate direct-care staff and clinical resources. Prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against operational limitations that could affect frailer or cognitively impaired individuals — specifically staffing consistency, dementia-specific programming, medication oversight, privacy in bathing, and transparency in communication and billing. Visiting in person, meeting nursing leadership, reviewing staffing ratios and training for dementia care, and clarifying incident-response and personal-belongings policies will help families assess fit for specific care needs.
