    Kind attentive staff restore dignity

I placed my mom here for knee-replacement rehab and memory care and have been very pleased. The staff-especially Kathy at the front desk and the long-tenured nurses-are incredibly kind, attentive, and go above and beyond. The facility is spotless, sunny, feels like home with private rooms, great meals and engaging activities (we loved the lemonade and warm cookies), and the mountain setting is lovely; I saw real improvement and dignity restored. I feel comfortable recommending this caring, family-like team.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a polarized picture of Forest Ridge Senior Living: many families describe a scenic, well-kept facility with private en-suite rooms, bright common areas, and a family-oriented atmosphere, while others raise substantive operational and clinical concerns. Positive accounts emphasize compassionate nursing and caregiving staff, thoughtful hospitality (reception warmth, refreshments, celebrations), active programming, and effective short-term rehabilitation and memory-care outcomes. These strengths contribute to a comfortable, home-like environment for many residents.

At the same time, a substantial pattern of concerns centers on staffing, clinical oversight, and management. Several reviewers describe marked changes in service quality associated with administrative turnover and high staff attrition. These operational pressures are reflected in reports of inconsistent staffing levels, CNAs and nurses feeling overworked, and turnover that affects continuity of care. Linked to those staffing patterns are concerns about clinical monitoring and escalation processes — including weight loss, worsening medical conditions, and infections in some cases — which reviewers attribute to delayed attention or gaps in quality-assurance oversight.

Staff-level experiences are mixed. Numerous accounts praise individual caregivers, long-tenure employees, and nurses who provide attentive, dignified care. Hospitality-focused staff and front-desk personnel receive frequent positive mention. Conversely, other accounts describe variability in staff conduct, limited responsiveness at times, and episodes of poor communication or unsatisfactory tone from management-level clinical staff. Together these reports indicate that resident-level experience can depend heavily on which caregivers and leaders are present on a given shift.

Dining and activities likewise show variability. The facility’s activity calendar and family events receive positive feedback for engagement and community-building, while meal quality and consistency are described more unevenly. Facility features and location are consistent strengths: reviewers repeatedly note the mountain setting, private rooms, cleanliness, and a generally pleasant physical environment.

Management and systemic issues are a recurrent theme. Specific concerns include leadership instability after administrative changes, perceived weaknesses in clinical quality-assurance processes, gaps in infection-control and outbreak response, and a sense among some families that pricing does not align with delivered value. A minority of comments reference regulatory or policy-adherence concerns that families felt warranted further investigation.

For prospective residents and families: consider inquiring about current staffing ratios (particularly in memory-care units), recent staff turnover, quality-assurance and clinical escalation protocols, infection-control policies and recent survey history, and typical family communication practices. Observing mealtimes and visiting during activity periods can help assess consistency. The facility offers notable strengths in environment, hospitality, and individualized caregiving, but reviewers indicate variability in operational reliability that merits careful, up-to-date inquiry before placement.

    About Forest Ridge Senior Living

Forest Ridge Senior Living sits in a quiet spot on the hospital campus in Woodland Park, Colorado, surrounded by trees, mountains, and wildlife, which gives it a calm feeling that many people seem to appreciate and, from what folks say, it's about half an hour west of Colorado Springs, so it's close to the city but feels out in the country. The facility provides skilled nursing care, memory care, physical rehabilitation, long-term care, and even independent living, so residents with many different needs find help here, and there's a team that includes a Fall Prevention Consultant along with experienced rehabilitation staff. Some people arrive for transitional care right after a hospital stay until they're strong enough to return home, and others need long-term care or specialized help with wounds, memory issues, or hospice support, and there's even home health and home care options, which makes the range of services pretty broad.

The daily rates start at $365, and the place takes care of people no matter their background, including veterans, since it has a contract with the VA for rehabilitation, long-term care, and respite services for those who served. Forest Ridge Senior Living offers support and referral services, dietary programs, and activities that try to keep folks active and connected. Staff receive training in compassion, tenderness, and hospitality, and the facility has a philosophy that every person is valuable, which seems to show up in the individualized nursing and therapy care that residents and rehab guests receive. People seeking care for memory loss like Alzheimer's or dementia can find special programs here, and hospice help is also available.

The facility has a 4.0 rating based on 4 reviews, and it earned a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services as well as a U.S. News award for Best Nursing Home in America 2018-2019. Forest Ridge tries to focus on holistic care, supporting body, mind, soul, and spirit, which some residents and their families mention as being important to them, and the location gives most people both comfort and a sense of peace. Forest Ridge Senior Living is managed by OnPointe Health and is operated by Forest Ridge Senior Living LLC, and it's part of CHCA District II. The facility offers care and services without discrimination, no matter a person's race, religion, color, background, or other personal history, and expresses a mission of providing compassionate care with heart.
