    Caring staff safe engaging community

I'm very happy with Aspen - the staff is amazing, caring, patient, and genuinely helpful. Melissa and Steven are phenomenal; Steven is personable, kind, and treated residents like family. The place feels safe and lively with effective COVID protocols (we had no incidents), 24/7 attentive care, engaging activities (exercise, piano, Bible study, painting) and delicious meals - breakfast is my favorite. I feel content here and would highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

The Aspen is described by many families as a small, personally run facility with clear strengths in hands-on caregiving, owner involvement, and a warm activity/dining program. Reviewers commonly praise staff members for being compassionate, patient, and attentive; several accounts single out specific caregivers as genuine and family-oriented. The facility offers 24/7 care, implemented visible infection-control measures during the COVID period, and is credited with creating a generally safe and content atmosphere for many residents.

Activity programming is a notable strength. The Aspen offers a mix of physical exercise classes, music performances (piano), creative-art opportunities (painting), and faith-based groups (Bible study), which reviewers describe as engaging and beneficial for resident interaction. Dining also receives positive mention — meals are enjoyed, and breakfast items are frequently highlighted as favorites — suggesting a generally reliable and resident-pleasing food service.

At the same time, reviewers raise several operational concerns that prospective families should evaluate. There are repeated remarks about gaps in dementia-specific training and variable staff competency in memory-care situations. One reviewer described an allegation of aggressive restraint in memory care; more broadly, comments point to issues with staff conduct and boundaries that may be more likely when dementia-related skills are inconsistent. High staff turnover and instances of poor communication or unprofessional behavior (including gossip) were described as factors that reduce continuity of care and complicate family interactions.

Management practices draw mixed commentary. Owners are often viewed positively for their involvement and caring approach, yet some families expressed dissatisfaction with how management addressed complaints or safety concerns, indicating potential gaps in complaint resolution and escalation procedures. There are also facility-level operational issues noted, including neglected outdoor areas and perceived shortfalls in emergency preparedness and planning.

For families considering The Aspen, the facility’s strengths — attentive caregivers, an active program of social and spiritual activities, favorable dining experiences, and visible owner involvement — are meaningful. At the same time, it would be prudent to ask targeted questions about dementia-care staff training, staff retention strategies, restraint and behavior-management policies, complaint-resolution processes, and emergency plans. Observing staff–resident interactions and requesting documentation of training and incident-response protocols can help balance the positive impressions with the operational concerns raised in reviews.

    About The Aspen

The Aspen sits about two miles outside Woodland Park, Colorado, and offers a medium-sized, 24-bed community for seniors looking for a comfortable, safe home. The community provides assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, assisted living residences, and hospice care. The Aspen has rooms called The Residences, which are studio layouts with private bathrooms, mini-bars, and many enjoy beautiful views of Pikes Peak and Pike National Forest. There's a sunroom with big windows, a cozy living room with a fireplace, a therapy room, and a beauty salon where folks can relax or visit with neighbors. Outdoor areas include a patio, garden, walking paths, and outdoor seating that let residents take in the mountain scenery.

The Aspen handles many levels of care, so seniors who need extra help with bathing, dressing, moving around, or medication management get support from trained staff. The facility focuses on meeting the needs of people with memory loss, mild cognitive impairment, or more complex medical needs. Nurses and aides supervise residents at all hours, and the staff tries to create a place where people can live as independently as they wish, but always have help nearby when they want it. Assisted living and memory care are tailored to each person's level of need, with routines and daily help like cooking, cleaning, laundry, and even arranging medical appointments or transportation.

Dining at The Aspen tries to suit lots of diets-professional chefs make meals for folks with diabetes or other restrictions, and there are gluten-free, vegan, low sodium, and organic foods. There's a dining room, a private dining option, and even room service, so residents get to eat the way they want. The community offers daily and community-sponsored activities, a small library, a gaming room, a fitness room, and planned day trips for those who like to stay busy or keep learning new things. There's also a caregiver support program and regular health and wellness services, including therapies and rehabilitation for those recovering from illness or injury.

The Aspen feels like a home where residents can make their own choices, keep their independence, and feel valued. The staff offers special services such as respite care and home care, so families can take a break if needed or seniors can receive help while living in their own homes. Residents find meaning in small ways, through personal achievement, having their needs respected, or just enjoying the simple things like a walk outside or a good meal. The facility offers basic but important comforts like air conditioning, cable TV, Wi-Fi, showers, wheelchair access, and parking. It's a place where safety, comfort, and community matter, with schedules and care plans that match every senior's needs and interests, helping each person feel at ease, secure, and welcome.
