    Warm staff, beautiful sparkling clean

I toured Brookside and moved my aunt in - overall I'm very impressed. The staff are warm, attentive, and go above and beyond; the brand-new building is beautiful and sparkling clean. Dining is restaurant-quality thanks to a talented chef, and there are abundant activities, a cozy bistro, gym, gardens and strong memory-care options. Management and nursing are responsive, my family member is happy, and I recommend touring if you want an active, comfortable community.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression The Residence at Brookside presents as a well-appointed, recently built community that many families find welcoming and home-like. Commonly cited strengths include a warm, resident-focused culture, attractive and carefully maintained interiors and grounds, and a wide range of on-site amenities such as a bistro, gym, laundry on each floor, outdoor garden, and well-appointed community spaces. Apartments are described as clean and often spacious, with some residents highlighting exceptional units and views. Care and staff Families and residents frequently praise the caregiving staff, nursing team, and leadership for compassion, individualized attention, and proactive communication during move-ins and transitions. Reviewers note attentive nursing, coordinated medical support, and the availability of a 24/7 on-call clinician as positive aspects that support clinical needs and aging-in-place. Memory-care services receive particular commendation for programming and daily engagement; activity staff are viewed as energetic and creative. At the same time, several accounts indicate operational challenges—notably staffing instability and turnover—that can lead to delays in assistance, inconsistent bathing or care schedules, and occasional lapses in clinical procedures. A limited number of accounts raise serious concerns such as medication errors, delayed fall response, and issues surrounding end-of-life communication; taken together these point to potential gaps in clinical-incident response and family communication that the facility may need to address. Dining and activities Dining is a central positive theme: many reviewers describe restaurant-style meals, a skilled chef, appealing menus, accommodating special diets, and a popular bistro. Special dinners and chef interactions are frequently highlighted. However, other accounts describe inconsistent meal quality and departures from posted menus (for example, frozen or pre-prepared items), suggesting variability in culinary execution. The activities program is robust and varied—music concerts, trivia, gardening, mixology, knitting/craft groups, exercise classes, and outings are regularly mentioned—contributing to a lively social environment and high resident engagement. Facilities and operations The physical plant and amenities are strong selling points: bright, modern common areas, thoughtful memory-care neighborhoods, mobility-friendly layouts, and regular maintenance response earn positive feedback. Some reviewers request cosmetic updates in specific shared areas (carpets, certain finishes) and note that exterior grounds or outdoor surroundings could be improved in spots. Operationally, persistent issues include inconsistent housekeeping or sanitation in particular areas and occasional long wait times for therapy or services. Several reviewers also point to uneven dining-room logistics (walker placement and traffic flow) that affect mealtime experience. Management and value Leadership and onsite management receive mixed but generally favorable remarks; many families single out directors and staff for responsiveness and hands-on support during moves. Conversely, leadership turnover and perceived declines in service quality are noted by others, and communication gaps (unanswered emails/phone calls) are a recurring operational criticism. Cost is a consistent consideration: the community is described as premium-priced, and some families question whether the cost always matches the value delivered, especially when service inconsistencies emerge. Conclusion and patterns to watch In sum, The Residence at Brookside is frequently recommended for its compassionate staff, engaging programming, attractive physical environment, and strong dining offerings. Prospective residents and families should, however, evaluate staffing stability, inquire about medication and incident-response protocols, and confirm current dining practices and housekeeping standards during a tour. Asking for recent staffing ratios, sample menus and meal-production practices, turnaround times for maintenance and therapy scheduling, and references from families in similar care levels can help clarify whether the facility’s strengths align with an individual’s priorities and risk tolerance.

    About The Residence at Brookside

The Residence at Brookside sits in Avon, Connecticut, offering seniors a place to live that covers a lot of needs all under one roof, so you've got independent living for folks who like to stay active on their own, assisted living for people who need some help now and then, memory care for anyone dealing with Alzheimer's or similar conditions, plus respite care if someone just needs a short stay or families need a break. You'll find apartments called floorplan-studio, floorplan-al-1br, and floorplan-al-2br, so that means they have studios as well as one- and two-bedroom layouts, and each apartment comes with a private bathroom, kitchenette, emergency call system, and choices between furnished or unfurnished, plus the staff is available 24 hours if anyone needs anything. The community sits on well-kept grounds with a gazebo, roundabout driveway, and nice landscaping while inside there's a grand staircase in the Assisted Living lobby, plaid carpets, a decorative cabinet, and even a grandfather clock, so it's both new and has a touch of classic Connecticut look to it. The services cover assisted living, independent living, memory care, adult day care, home health care, and even some skilled nursing and rehab, so if someone's needs change, you can probably stay in the same place. Amenities include a private dining room, activity and game rooms, a fitness center, theater room, library, worship spaces, and a restaurant-style dining setup where meals are served every day, and there's a barber and beauty salon on-site too if anyone wants a haircut or style without going out. Activities tend to include movies, music, outings, clubs, all-day dining, spiritual programs, wellness classes, and walking paths for exercise. There's local transportation for errands or appointments, and housekeeping and laundry to keep things tidy, plus the community is big on safety with 24-hour security and emergency call systems throughout. The memory care area is called Reflections and focuses on empathy and expression, aiming to help residents keep their independence as much as possible with specialized programs, and the community also offers respite stays so folks can try things out without a long-term commitment or for families needing extra help. Staff includes nurses and support workers, and the management is run by LCB Senior Living, which brings experience and specialized hospitality to the table. The Residence at Brookside stays up to date on licensing, provides nutritious meals, and tries to match services to each resident's needs whether you're looking for home health, short-term, or a full retirement lifestyle. All in all, it's a new and well-run place where seniors can find a safe, comfortable home without having to worry much if their care needs change along the way.
