    Caring staff, updated apartments, social

I live here and think it's a solid choice: the staff are caring and always available, maintenance is responsive, and residents' voices are respected. Meals are delicious and plentiful, the apartments are updated and pet-friendly, and the lovely rural grounds, pools, clubhouse and busy activities calendar keep things social. Overall a homey, high-quality community I'm happy with.

    Summary of reviews

Masonicare at Chester Village is consistently described as a homelike, rural campus with spacious, recently updated apartments and a range of on-site amenities. Reviewers emphasize the property's country setting, well-kept grounds and walking trails, and close proximity to Cockaponsett State Forest. The physical plant includes both indoor and outdoor pools, a gym with senior exercise classes and yoga, and communal spaces that host art shows, performances, and social events — factors that support an active lifestyle for residents.

Care and staffing are frequent highlights. Many accounts describe staff as welcoming, knowledgeable, and caring; nursing and front-desk personnel are singled out for reassuring interactions and helpfulness. The community offers assisted-services elements such as medication administration and bathing support, and maintenance teams are noted as responsive for apartment and building issues. At the same time, reviewers indicate variability in staff consistency: some describe excellent, proactive resolution of problems while others cite turnover and occasional competency gaps that have affected continuity of care.

Dining and programming are strong points. Multiple comments praise the quality and variety of meals and the kitchen staff; dining is characterized as upscale and flexible. The activity calendar is broad, including movies, plays, bus trips, card games, exercise classes, and arts-related gatherings. Transportation services to restaurants and off-campus events are available and used regularly by residents. The overall social tone is described as friendly and family-like, with an engaged resident voice that management has used when planning campus updates.

Operationally, there are cautionary themes prospective residents and families should note. Several reviewers referenced challenges that followed an ownership change, including management transition issues and intermittent responsiveness to resident concerns. High staff turnover and variability in staff competency were raised as ongoing operational weaknesses. The community also does not appear to offer on-site memory-care or specialized dementia units, which limits the continuum of care for couples or residents who may need those services in the future.

In sum, Chester Village offers a high-quality, amenity-rich environment with many strengths in hospitality, dining, maintenance, and social programming. Prospective residents should balance these positives with questions about leadership stability, staffing continuity, and the availability of higher-acuity or memory-care services. Recommended next steps include touring multiple apartment types, meeting direct-care staff, asking about current staff turnover rates and staffing ratios, and clarifying transition pathways for residents who may require memory-support services later on.

    About Masonicare at Chester Village

Masonicare at Chester Village sits in the quiet, wooded area of Connecticut's River Valley and you'll find it's a retirement community that covers just about every kind of care seniors might need: independent living, assisted living, memory care, and nursing home services, all under one roof, called a continuing care retirement community or CCRC. This place's got modern apartments and homes, with different floor plans including one-bedroom with a den or two-bedroom homes with attached garages, so folks can pick what suits them. Many people mention the friendly and helpful staff, and the community holds a good 4.6 rating from 19 reviews, which tells you residents and families have been fairly satisfied with the experience.

You'll see open living spaces with fireplaces, full kitchens, ground floor access, and safety features if needed, all designed for comfort and ease of use, with pet-friendly units for those who want to bring their dogs along. People living here have a wide range of care options-help with bathing, dressing, getting around, taking medicine, and even more support if memory care becomes necessary, all provided by Masonicare's trained staff and a full-time Wellness Nurse on campus. There are 24-hour security and emergency services, plus a campus-wide generator for peace of mind. Folks who like to stay busy won't run out of things to do since there's a library, music room, fitness center with senior-friendly equipment, creative arts studio, greenhouse for gardening, indoor swimming pool and whirlpool, walking trails, and even a pond with a gazebo.

Dining's pretty varied here, too, with options like a restaurant-style dining room, private space for special occasions, a bistro or pub, and meals made by a chef-including vegetarian, gluten-free, vegan, and international cuisines. There's a complimentary continental breakfast and folks can get guest meals as well. Housekeeping comes in every two weeks, and there are services to help with appointments, paperwork, medication, and even errands like grocery shopping or picking up pharmacy orders. Transportation helps cover doctor's appointments within 15 miles and local outings, and there's resident parking. Residents have access to nurses for check-ins or help with care adjustments, and short-term trial stays are an option for those thinking of moving in. The community handles things like home health care, palliative and hospice care, outpatient therapy, and adult day programs, working with Masonicare's larger network, all aimed at making sure people can age safely and stay involved in social activities.

Masonicare at Chester Village is a non-profit, non-sectarian community with a focus on offering both independence and extra care when it's required. There's encouragement for staff to focus on human-centered care and keep growing in their roles. Folks here find a peaceful setting and good activity options, with dedicated help for both daily needs and long-term changes, so families know their loved ones aren't left on their own if things get hard down the road.
