    Caring staff, indifferent management, declining

I love the residents and many of the caregivers - this place used to be genuinely compassionate under the original owner. In my experience management is indifferent and often unreachable, corners are being cut, staff are overworked (I saw aides stretched thin), meals are mostly pre-packaged, activities are minimal, and the building can feel dirty and uncaring. Despite that, the remaining staff try hard, so I recommend it with reservations.

    Summary of reviews

Overview: The collection of summaries reflects a facility with a mixed legacy: several comments recall a prior era of compassionate, resident-centered care under former ownership, and some staff characterize the workplace as a second home. More recent commentary concentrates on operational changes that reviewers associate with reduced care quality and diminished living conditions.

Care and staff: Reviewers describe an environment affected by staffing instability and workload pressure. Accounts include large-scale layoffs, high turnover, and examples of carers covering large numbers of residents simultaneously; these descriptions indicate chronic understaffing and associated delays in attending to resident needs. Reviewers also raised concerns about staff conduct and responsiveness, and about limited supervisory oversight as one administrator or manager was said to be responsible for multiple sites.

Dining and activities: Several summaries indicate a shift toward convenience-based food service, specifically reliance on pre-packaged or processed meals rather than freshly prepared offerings. Activity programming is reported to be minimal or absent, suggesting limited opportunities for resident engagement and socialization.

Facilities and cleanliness: Multiple remarks point to sanitation and cleanliness issues and to broader physical-plant concerns. Some commentary characterizes the building condition as deteriorated and potentially subject to regulatory scrutiny; these observations suggest attention is needed to maintenance, safety, and infection-control practices.

Management and governance: A prominent theme is limited accessibility and responsiveness from ownership and administration. Reviewers describe owners who are difficult to contact, a perception of profit-driven cost-cutting, and an indifferent administrative approach. There are also statements alleging dishonest practices and managerial misconduct, which merit investigation through official channels and documentation.

Notable patterns and guidance: The dominant pattern is one of operational decline following ownership and staffing changes: fewer staff, reduced services, and perceived declines in oversight and facility condition. Prospective residents and families should seek current, objective information before making decisions — review the facility's most recent inspection reports, ask for documented staffing ratios and turnover data, request sample menus and meal-preparation practices, review activity schedules, and ask how the facility addresses sanitation and maintenance. For families already involved with the facility, documenting specific incidents and raising them with regulators or ombudsmen may be warranted. The facility's history of compassionate care under prior ownership indicates potential for improvement if staffing, management transparency, and facility maintenance are addressed.

    About Crestwood Manor Inc

Crestwood Manor Inc in Norwich, CT is a licensed Residential Care Facility that helps seniors by offering different levels of care and community living, and the place provides independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, board and care, and even memory care options, so folks can find the help that fits them best, and there's always someone around because they have 24-hour supervision, a call system for emergencies, and help with things like bathing, dressing, medication, and moving from bed to chair if needed, and they coordinate with outside healthcare providers too, which makes those medical appointments and follow-ups easier to handle. People can get respite care for short-term stays, or a longer arrangement if they need, and the staff aims to be helpful and friendly, creating a warm, welcoming environment with some awards for having great activities and happy residents, which is nice because feeling at home matters. Residents get nutritious meals planned by chefs, and they handle special diets, like allergies or diabetes, and there's a dining room where meals are served, but apartments or rooms come furnished, with a kitchen area, a telephone, cable, and Wi-Fi, which makes life a bit more comfortable, and housekeeping, linen, and laundry services keep things tidy without folks needing to lift a finger. There's a barber and salon on site so folks can freshen up if they like, plus a community garden, walking paths, parking, and places outside to sit or walk together, with plenty of common areas to relax, watch movies, or do arts and crafts. Crestwood Manor Inc offers a busy schedule of organized activities, social events, and mental wellness programs, so seniors have regular chances to be active, connect with others, and stay sharp, and all those things like transportation to appointments, emergency alert systems, and attention to special medical or daily needs make it easier for families to feel some peace of mind. For those who want to live at home, there are also home care services, where aides visit to provide companionship and non-medical help, and overall, the whole community focuses on creating a space where seniors can be as independent as they want but still get help if they need it, which tends to work out well for people with different health or lifestyle needs, and if someone has memory challenges, like Alzheimer's, there's specialized care and secure housing to help with safety and comfort. Crestwood Manor Inc has received recognition for its friendly staff, great activities, and caring attitude, but it's important to know that unless certified, the facility doesn't take Medicare, and payment might need to come from other sources. The goal always seems to be to offer seniors a place that covers the basics but allows some freedom, socializing, and safety, so everyone can enjoy their days in a setting designed for comfort and support.
