    Compassionate safe home-like care provided

My mom lived here nearly two years and I'm very pleased with the care. It's a small, home-like facility - clean, well-kept rooms (private and spacious options), a wrap-around porch and cozy sitting room - with compassionate, attentive staff and hands-on owners (Kathryn and Natalie). Meals are good, there are plenty of activities, and I felt my mom was safe, loved, and well cared for; I'd recommend it as a very good choice.

    Summary of reviews

Curlew Care presents as a small, home-style assisted living and memory-care setting that many families describe as warm, clean, and personalized. The facility is repeatedly praised for a family-like atmosphere: owners and many caregiving staff are characterized as compassionate, attentive, and involved in resident care. Common areas such as a sitting room with a fireplace and a wrap-around porch are noted as welcoming, and several reviewers highlight individualized memory-care touches and residents’ ability to personalize rooms. The facility’s size supports frequent social interaction; reviewers frequently mention active programming, live music, communal meals, movie nights, and other activities that contribute to social engagement.

Care quality descriptions are mixed but include strong positive experiences: coordinated hospice arrangements, responsive follow-up from owners, consistent caregiver assignments, and staff who make residents feel safe and loved. Dining is generally viewed favorably, with adequate portions and pleasant communal meals reported. Physical facilities earn compliments for cleanliness and maintenance, and some room options include private bathrooms and larger layouts that families appreciate.

However, the reviews also reveal significant operational concerns that prospective residents and families should evaluate. Staffing consistency emerges as a recurrent operational weakness—particularly overnight coverage and periods when residents may not receive timely assistance. Relatedly, some reviewers raised concerns about medication-administration practices and about inconsistent scheduling for personal-care tasks such as bathing and toileting. Safety supervision gaps are another theme: mentions of unsecured personal belongings, interpersonal incidents, and other safety-related worries indicate the need for clear supervision protocols and incident reporting practices.

Management and transparency are additional mixed areas. While owners receive positive mention for hands-on involvement and responsiveness, some reviewers cited a variable administrative tone and an administrator perceived as less welcoming. There are also concerns about marketing and pricing transparency: differences between online photos and current room configurations, questions about room-sharing arrangements, and unclear cost structures relative to Medicaid. Privacy-policy gaps were noted where staff took personal photos of residents, suggesting the facility should clarify photo-use rules and resident consent practices.

Overall, Curlew Care appears to deliver a highly positive, home-like experience for many residents—especially those seeking personalized memory care and strong social programming. At the same time, the presence of several severe, albeit less frequent, concerns (including allegations of theft and safety incidents) creates a polarized picture. Families considering this facility should conduct an in-person tour, verify current room configurations and staffing ratios (including overnight coverage), review medication and incident protocols, ask for recent inspection or licensing records, confirm pricing and contract terms, and request references from current families to assess consistency of care over time.
