    Caring staff restored dad's independence

I'm very pleased with the caring, responsive staff and excellent nursing and therapy - they helped my dad regain independence and supported wound/PT and prosthetic needs. New management and recent renovations have made the facility clean, homey, and welcoming with good activities and friendly residents; staff keep me updated and go above and beyond, giving us real peace of mind. I highly recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews reflect a facility with a mixed performance profile: a number of families and patients describe strong clinical and therapeutic capabilities, while others raise serious operational and safety concerns. Positive accounts highlight skilled and compassionate nurses and therapists who have supported meaningful rehabilitation outcomes, wound healing, prosthetic assistance, and effective physical/occupational therapy. Several reviewers also described a warm, home-like atmosphere with active programming, an outdoor patio and resident activities, and generally acceptable meal quality. Reception and front-desk personnel are frequently noted as attentive, and some recent reviewers reported visible improvement after leadership changes.

At the same time, recurring negative themes point to systemic weaknesses. Staffing levels and consistency are a prominent issue: reviewers describe variable staff performance, limited staffing coverage, and long wait times for call responses. These operational constraints are associated with lapses in basic care responsiveness, delays in attending to continence needs and wound care, and instances of inadequate transfer and fall-prevention practices. Multiple accounts raise concerns about medication and oxygen-safety controls, including handling of insulin and oxygen equipment oversight.

Facility-condition and service issues were also noted. Several reviewers described cleanliness and odor concerns in portions of the facility, intermittent equipment problems, and maintenance needs consistent with an older building. Dining service is uneven — while some found the food acceptable, others described cold meals, limited dinner choices, and challenges with dietary compliance or serving placement. There are additionally troubling comments about personal-item security and storage, including allegations of missing items and improper handling of residents’ belongings.

Management and communication appear variable. Some families praised recent management changes and improved responsiveness, while others described evasive supervisors, inconsistent incident documentation, and poor communication around significant events. Training and supervision gaps were raised as contributing factors to inconsistent staff conduct and procedural errors. Overall, the pattern is one of uneven quality: the facility demonstrates clinical strengths and positive outcomes for some residents, but operational and safety gaps have materially affected other families’ experiences.

For prospective residents and families, it may be helpful to ask the facility about current staffing ratios, medication and oxygen-safety protocols, wound- and continence-care procedures, incident-reporting practices, personal-item security, and recent changes implemented by new management. Confirming recent survey results or regulatory findings and arranging a tour focused on cleanliness, staffing visibility, and therapy capabilities can help weigh the facility’s therapeutic strengths against the operational concerns described by reviewers.

    About Harborview Health Center Kissimmee

Harborview Health Center Kissimmee sits right near area hospitals and offers a full range of care for older adults, so folks can move in for independent living or get more help as their needs change over time, and you'll find everything from active adult living and assisted living to skilled nursing and memory care here, which is helpful for those who need support with daily activities, medication, meals, or personal care, and those with Alzheimer's or dementia have access to secure memory care with special programs and activities for memory support. The facility belongs to a larger network, including Solaris Healthcare Osceola and HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, so seniors get full medical support when they need it, and the connection to Consulate Health Care means they promote a culture where staff act as Ambassadors of Care, always keeping an eye on compassion. The campus is pretty big, holding up to 120 beds, and has both private and semi-private rooms-some with private bathrooms-which residents can decorate with their own things, and there's room for couples too. For folks looking to stay busy, there are planned events like excursions, arts and crafts, movies, group games, and even visits from performers or younger folks in intergenerational programs. Amenities include a rehab gym for those needing therapy, outdoor courtyards to get some Florida sunshine, a beauty and barber shop, family rooms, and a large screened patio, plus you've got community transportation, a fitness room, a garden, a small library, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and a dining room that serves restaurant-style meals. Seniors who need help with bathing, dressing, moving around, dietary needs, or medicine management get help 24 hours a day, and there's always a nurse on duty, with doctors available as needed, which helps with wound care, post-surgery recovery, and therapy needs like physical, occupational, or speech therapy. If only short-term help is required, there's respite or subacute care, and there are home care services too, both Medicare-certified and non-medical, along with outpatient therapies. Adult Day Services and hospice care are available for those who need them, and families have resources and support when dealing with long-term care challenges. The rooms stay tidy thanks to housekeeping and laundry, and there's a 24-hour emergency call system for peace of mind, but like most places you hear some folks have mentioned concerns with cleanliness and staff being busy, though recent years have brought accreditations for quality and satisfaction. The staff aims for patient-centered care, making sure everyone gets individual attention, and the facility is known for its compassionate approach and comfortable, homey touches, having served the Kissimmee community for many years.
