    Compassionate, clean, and personalized care

I've been at this small, family-owned place for a while and I'm very pleased - Don and the nurses are compassionate and hardworking, the staff is friendly and dedicated, and they really care. Meals are nutritious, activities are fun, it's clean and welcoming, and they provide personalized care (they're great with trach patients and have on-site dialysis). The Director of Nursing/administrator is accessible, and while it's not flashy, it's centrally located in North Miami.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Pines Nursing Home describe a facility with a mixture of clear strengths and significant operational challenges. On the positive side, families and some clinicians note skilled therapy services, compassionate nursing and CNA care, and clinical capabilities for higher-acuity needs such as on-site dialysis and tracheostomy management. The facility’s small, family-owned character and centrally located setting are frequently mentioned as contributors to a more personalized atmosphere, and several reviewers singled out individual staff for strong, dedicated caregiving. Meals and activities also receive favorable comments—nutritious food and an engaging activity program are recurring positives.

At the same time, a number of consistent operational weaknesses emerge across reviews. The most frequent concerns involve responsiveness: an outdated call-system, delayed nurse responses, and difficulties reaching staff or administration by phone. Several comments point to medication-administration issues and broader communication and charting gaps that could affect continuity of care. Rehabilitation offerings are described as uneven—therapists are praised in some accounts, yet the facility is also said to lack adequate gym space and rehab equipment, which may limit the effectiveness of post-acute recovery for some residents.

Sanitation and personal-care issues are another recurring theme. Reviewers describe odor and cleanliness concerns in rooms and common areas, inconsistent delivery of linens and towels, and delays in incontinence and grooming assistance. There are also reports suggesting challenges with patient placement and behavioral management that may reflect mismatch between resident needs and the facility’s capacity or staffing model. In a few accounts, restraint or tight mobility securement practices were noted as a concern. Finally, several families describe problematic admission interactions; one review includes an allegation of coercive admission behavior, which warrants particular attention when evaluating the provider.

Management impressions are mixed. Some families find the Director of Nursing and administrator accessible and accommodating; others report poor responsiveness from admissions, the business office, and clinical leadership. These divergent experiences point to inconsistent operational performance rather than uniformly strong or weak managerial practices. Physical plant comments are similarly mixed: reviewers describe a clean, welcoming environment in some areas while also noting overcrowding, limited rehab facilities, and basic-supplies shortfalls in others.

For families considering Pines Nursing Home, the salient pattern is variability: the facility appears capable of providing high-quality, compassionate clinical care in certain cases (including complex needs like dialysis and tracheostomy care), but there are repeated operational and process gaps that could affect day-to-day comfort, safety, and communication. Prospective residents and representatives should tour the unit, ask specific questions about staffing ratios, call-response times and systems, medication-safety protocols, behavior-management policies, linen and laundry procedures, and the availability of rehab equipment. Requesting recent care-plan examples and speaking with families of current residents can help clarify whether the facility’s strengths align with the incoming resident’s clinical and personal needs.
