    Compassionate professional transparent family-like care

I'm very grateful for the compassionate, professional care here - nurses, the therapy team, and caregivers like Gina and Kee went above and beyond and kept me informed about my loved one's care. Dan even went out of his way to return a ring and it was safely put away. The administrator and DON are remarkable, staff-to-patient transparency is excellent, residents are thriving in a family-like, attentive environment, and I highly recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews present a polarized picture of the facility. Many families and patients praise frontline caregivers, therapists, and certain members of leadership for compassionate, handsโ€‘on care and successful rehabilitation outcomes. At the same time, recurring operational and environmental concerns appear across accounts and can materially affect patient experience and family confidence.

Care quality and clinical services: Several reviewers highlighted strong nursing care and a capable therapy/physicalโ€‘therapy department that contributed to positive recovery outcomes. Families reported staff who advocate for residents, provide timely education, and assist with Medicaid or discharge planning. However, there are consistent complaints about delayed responses to resident needs due to callโ€‘system failures and staffing shortfalls. Reviewers also described inconsistent coordination around transitions of care and discharge decisions; one family specifically raised serious concerns following a resident's death, which underscores the need to verify clinicalโ€‘coordination practices during a tour.

Staff and management: Frontline staff receive frequent praise for compassion, longevity, and willingness to go beyond basic duties. Multiple reviews named individual caregivers and unit managers as strengths. Management impressions are mixed: some reviewers commend the administrator and director of nursing for engagement and support, while others describe difficulty reaching leadership, curt communication, or slow followโ€‘up on family concerns. This variability suggests uneven leadership responsiveness and differences across units or shifts.

Facilities, cleanliness, and safety: The building is described as older and in need of updating, with limited renovation funds cited. Several accounts raise sanitation and odor concerns in specific areas and note visible maintenance issues and an institutional aesthetic in parts of the property. Reviewers also reported pestโ€‘control problems and uneven implementation of hygiene and grooming assistance for residents. Security and personalโ€‘property controls were questioned in light of alleged employee theft and instances where residents or families had to take extra steps to secure valuables.

Dining, activities, and daily living: There is limited specific feedback about dining quality or the activities program in the summaries provided. Where daily living needs were mentioned, comments emphasized variability in assistance with bathing, grooming, and personal upkeep. Prospective families should request current menus, activity calendars, and examples of how individualized care plans address grooming and hygiene needs.

Communication and accessibility: A common operational theme is difficulty with family communication โ€” long phone wait times, limited incoming phone access, and inconsistent notification about status changes. These communication gaps compound other concerns (callโ€‘response times, discharge coordination) and can erode trust even when individual caregivers are praised.

Notable patterns and recommendations: The dominant pattern is strong, compassionate frontline caregiving juxtaposed with systemic operational weaknesses (staffing, facility maintenance, communication systems, and property controls). Prospective residents and families should confirm current staffing ratios, observe callโ€‘bell responsiveness during a visit, ask about recent pestโ€‘control measures and sanitation audits, review policies for personalโ€‘item security, and request examples of recent renovations or capitalโ€‘improvement plans. Ask to speak with the administrator and DON about how they address the specific issues above and request recent inspection or quality indicators to corroborate current conditions.

In summary, this facility appears to offer meaningful clinical and rehabilitative strengths through committed staff and some engaged leaders, but there are consistent facilityโ€‘level issues that merit careful scrutiny before placement. An inโ€‘person tour that focuses on staffing, responsiveness, sanitation controls, and management accountability will be important for families weighing placement here.

    About Balanced Healthcare

Balanced Healthcare sits at 4250 66th St N in Saint Petersburg, Florida, where older adults can find a range of care, from independent living and assisted living to skilled nursing and rehabilitation, and you'll see right away the setting is both welcoming and calm with green grounds and flowers around the property, and there's always a thoughtful bustle in the building with over 66 residents cared for each day by more than 110 staff. The community has private studio rooms with sun-soaked spaces, relaxing colors, and private bathrooms, plus cable TV, internet, phones, and air conditioning. Folks have choices of activities-movie nights, music, arts, clubs, fitness equipment for different exercise needs, and even walking paths and gardens to enjoy. Meals come in a dining room set up like a restaurant, and staff prepare foods for special diets like diabetes and allergies, with an all-day dining option so no one has to stick to a set schedule just to get something to eat, and housekeeping and laundry are handled for the residents as well. Nursing care is round-the-clock with a 24-hour call system, and everyone that needs it can get help with medication, bathing, dressing, mobility, or transfers. Balanced Healthcare also does physical, occupational, and speech therapy, plus specialized psychiatric care if that's needed, and there's a subacute unit for those coming out of the hospital to recover before heading home, and a team of therapists works alongside regular care staff for short or long stays, trying to help folks regain strength and independence. The facility is set up to accept Medicare, Medicaid-including Sunshine State Health Plan Medicaid and insurance-Simply Health, Private Pay, and other common insurance coverage. There's a skilled nursing wing that can manage up to 299 beds, and the team tracks its quality through various ratings and analytics, including PointRight Pro360ยฎ and Medicare's star system, with regular reviews of services and staffing hours, and the nurse turnover currently runs better than the average facility in Florida at under 36%. Balanced Healthcare has had a number of inspection deficiencies-34 in total-including 3 related to infection prevention and 1 related to quality of care and resident rights, without actual harm but indicating there's room for improvement, and the staff tries to keep these issues in sight to help make changes. The location is minutes from major hospitals and cultural organizations, and for those who need to get around, transportation and parking are provided. People here seem to find the atmosphere comfortable and flexible, whether they want social engagement or a quiet afternoon, plus the place offers help with move-in, housekeeping, laundry, and basic property management. Specialized therapeutic services and psychiatric care are tucked into the mix, with support for those who have trouble getting around, and a robust emergency call feature keeps everyone a little safer. Balanced Healthcare is a for-profit skilled nursing community accredited by the Joint Commission, with living options for active adults, assisted living, and full nursing care, all provided by a staff working under direct ownership by St Petersburg Fl Holdco LLC, and with affiliated interests from several healthcare ownership groups.
