    Moved my mom; very pleased

I moved my mom here and we've been very pleased. It's clean, cozy and home-like with attentive, caring staff (Courtney and Tammie were especially helpful), excellent, well-balanced meals from a skilled cook, and activities/outings several times a week. They offer memory care and decent Medicaid shared rooms, provide daily room care and solid med support, and the community feels safe, social and proactive - her mood and health have improved. I'd recommend calling to learn more.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Ashley Manor Senior Living present a mixed but consistent set of strengths and operational weaknesses. The facility as a whole is frequently described as attractive and well kept, with ample natural light, large rooms (and some private bathrooms), extensive outdoor and garden spaces, and communal features such as a library and active social programming. Many families and residents praise the social environment — regular activities, outings (including trips to the Y), bingo and group programs — and describe staff who create a warm, small-community atmosphere that supports resident engagement and improved well-being.

Care quality and staffing are the most polarized areas. Numerous accounts describe attentive, compassionate caregivers, timely assistance, and clinical improvements such as better-managed chronic conditions. At the same time, there are repeated operational concerns about inconsistent staffing levels, periods of understaffing (especially after hours), and uneven responsiveness from nursing staff. Those patterns have been associated with delayed assistance, missed or delayed personal-care tasks, and lapses in supervision for residents with cognitive impairment. Together, these items indicate variability in day-to-day care delivery rather than a uniform standard.

Medication and recordkeeping are another area of concern. Several families note problems with medication ordering, dosing changes, cancellations, and resulting pharmacy-billing confusion. Reviewers also describe gaps in documentation, difficulty obtaining clear records, and communication breakdowns between clinical teams, pharmacy, and families. These operational weaknesses can have financial and clinical consequences for residents and warrant specific inquiry when evaluating the facility.

Dining experiences are described at both extremes. Some reviewers commend an experienced chef, well-balanced meals, and dietary accommodations (including softer foods), and say food quality is a highlight. Others report inconsistent meal availability, undercooked or bland offerings, and evidence of poor dining-hall sanitation or service practices. This suggests kitchen performance may vary with staffing, shifts, or recent personnel changes.

Facility operations and management produce mixed impressions. Several reviews commend proactive leadership, an executive director skilled in Medicaid coordination, surveillance for common areas, and visible improvements over time. Conversely, reviewers raise concerns about accessibility of management, delayed or poor family communication, inconsistent enforcement of policies (for example, around service animals and immediate payment requests), and occasional confrontational staff behavior. Property-management issues — missing personal items or communal use of belongings — and privacy-process gaps (including unannounced room entry) are also cited as operational weaknesses.

Safety, cleanliness, and unit design deserve careful attention during a visit. Complaints include sanitation and odor concerns in some rooms and dining areas, incontinence-care inconsistencies, falls and transfer-safety problems in cramped bathrooms, and wandering into restricted areas. There are also specific notes that subsidized/Medicaid rooms may be shared and smaller; families should confirm room type, accessibility features (handrails, transfer aids), and staffing coverage for higher-dependency needs.

Overall pattern and guidance: the facility offers many features families value — attractive physical space, active programming, a non-corporate community feel, and numerous reports of compassionate staff — but also shows recurring operational gaps around staffing consistency, medication coordination, documentation, dining continuity, and communication. Prospective residents and families should tour both the market-rate and subsidized units, observe meal service, ask for current staffing ratios and after-hours coverage, review medication-ordering and billing procedures, and request documentation of policies on privacy and personal-property handling before making a placement decision.
