    Very happy resident praises amenities

I live here and have been very happy - the food is excellent, the staff are friendly and accommodating, and activities are plentiful (crafts, outings, fitness and Social groups). The campus is beautiful and well maintained (many on-site amenities: pool, wellness/fitness center, chapel, salon, bank, restaurant/bar, library) with varied housing options (one- and two-bedrooms, villas/townhomes) and easy access to hospital, train and airport. Overall it feels like a well-run, home-like independent living community I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Luther Village presents as a large, well-appointed continuing-care campus with an emphasis on active independent living and a full continuum of on‑site care. The community is sited on an extensive, landscaped property and benefits from convenient regional transportation links, including train access to downtown Chicago and proximity to O'Hare. Housing choices range from villas and townhomes to one- and two-bedroom apartments, and the community is organized primarily around an equity/home-ownership model rather than a rental structure.

Care and staffing are frequently described positively: staff are characterized as friendly, informed, and accommodating, and several families praised the quality of attention given to residents. The community also maintains an on-site nursing and assisted-care component, which provides continuity for residents who require higher levels of care over time. That said, there are intermittent comments about inconsistent responsiveness to individual assistance requests; prospective residents should clarify expected response times and staff roles during touring and contracting.

Dining and hospitality are strengths for many residents. Meal service is integrated into the fee structure with additional purchase options available, and there is an on-site restaurant and bar plus catering services for events. The hospitality suite and chapel support family gatherings and services, although demand for shared event spaces can exceed availability and scheduling can be constrained.

Activity programming is well developed. A dedicated Activities Team runs diverse offerings — exercise classes, crafts, pool, library access, organized outings, and transport to local events — supporting social engagement and an active lifestyle. Outdoor amenities such as walking paths, ponds with recreational fishing, balconies with views, and extensive grounds contribute to the campus lifestyle.

Facilities and maintenance receive mixed but generally favorable comments: buildings and grounds are described as well maintained, and the maintenance team and weekend emergency support are viewed positively. At the same time, reviewers referenced occasional service or infrastructure problems, including flooding and interruptions to services like cable; these indicate areas to verify during a tour and in contract language regarding maintenance responsibilities and response protocols.

Financial and management considerations are important for prospective residents. The ownership/equity model and overall pricing level are noted as a barrier for some — costs are higher than some alternatives and rental flexibility is limited. Reviewers also flagged that future assisted-living costs and fee transitions can be complex; families should request clear, written explanations of fee schedules, buy‑in terms, refunds, and projected assisted-care pricing.

Overall, Luther Village appears well suited for older adults seeking an active independent-living environment with robust on-site amenities and an on-campus care continuum. It is most appropriate for those able and willing to invest in an ownership model and who prioritize campus services and programming. Prospective residents and families should prioritize confirming unit sizes, clarifying maintenance and service-response expectations, and reviewing detailed financial terms and amenity availability before committing.

    About Luther Village

Luther Village sits on 55 acres in Arlington Heights, Illinois, at 1220 Village Drive, with a campus that's got mature landscaping, walking paths, and a pond where you'll find a fishing pier, and over the years folks have appreciated the raised-bed gardens and the cozy Summer House where there's a place for outdoor visits and activities, and when it comes to living choices, there are midrise homes, villa homes, and courtyard homes, with those courtyard homes being brick townhomes circling a lake. There's also four midrise buildings connected by skywalks to Wittenberg Commons, offering several floor plans so people can pick what fits them best, whether it's a one-bedroom or a two-bedroom setup, and some prefer the villa townhomes built along the community's greenway. Luther Village is set up as a full-equity cooperative, which means the residents own their homes, and folks age 55 or 62 and up, depending on the section, can live here. The community's got services for independent living, personal care, assisted living, and memory care for people with Alzheimer's or dementia, so residents can get extra help with daily activities like bathing and dressing if they need it, and folks often use laundry services, housekeeping, and meal programs, where one or two meals a day are provided. There's a big focus on health and wellness, and residents use the fitness center, which has an indoor pool, and take part in regular health programs to stay active. The summer brings plenty of activities both on and off campus, and you'll find a strong social activity program with classes, entertainment, and trips outside the community, and there's always something going on, whether it's gardening, group fitness, or spending time by the pond. The community makes things easier by handling the yard work and exterior maintenance, so people can focus on friends and hobbies, and for meals they've got two on-campus restaurants that get good use throughout the week. There's always access to everyday needs, since there are grocery stores, coffee shops, restaurants, pharmacies, gas stations, and banks close by, and help is around for housekeeping, laundry, and handyman jobs. Luther Village provides a map for easy visiting, and there's a dedicated sales team at the on-site Sales Center to help people explore their housing options. Residents appreciate the independence, but also the peace of mind that comes with 24-hour supervision and different levels of care when needed, making it a place where people feel free but also supported as life changes.
