    Friendly active safe maintenance-free living

I moved in recently and am very pleased - friendly, attentive staff; a clean, safe, well-run community; and nonstop activities, outings and social opportunities that helped me make new friends. Meals are restaurant-style, housekeeping, transportation, on-site chapel, salon and fitness/therapy are included, and my roomy two-bed, two-bath apartment feels maintenance-free and comfortable. Overall I have peace of mind and would recommend this welcoming, active place.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Marian Village is consistently described as a well-maintained, modern senior living community with a strong emphasis on social programming, faith-based services, and restaurant-style dining. Reviewers highlight an active, engaged resident community and a range of housing choices that support independent living with pathways to assisted care. The campus amenities, grounds and interior common areas are frequently characterized as clean, bright and newly renovated, and many families report that residents acclimate well and appreciate the maintenance-free lifestyle.

Care and staff: The caregiving team and leadership receive frequent praise for attentiveness, compassion and approachability, with multiple mentions of staff going above and beyond to assist residents and families. Nursing and medication distribution practices are described positively in many accounts, and residents value the visible leadership and responsiveness of on-site management. At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns about staffing mix and role clarity (for example, uneven experience levels among frontline employees and occasional confusion between clinical roles), and some reviewers note inconsistent responsiveness or unhelpful interactions in isolated cases. Those considerations suggest generally strong interpersonal care but variable execution when staffing or role definitions are stressed.

Dining and nutrition: Dining is a central strength — many praise restaurant-like service, multiple dining venues (including a bistro), varied menus and the convenience of meals included in some plans. The community also supports special programming around nutrition, and residents frequently cite the social benefit of communal meals. Conversely, there are repeated comments about inconsistent food quality, small portion sizes at times, occasional order errors, and a desire for healthier or more frequently updated menu choices. Some reviewers also called out limitations tied to specific meal-plan structures (for example, references to a single included meal or to point-based monthly limits), which may affect expectations about meal frequency and value.

Activities and lifestyle: Marian Village is consistently noted for a broad, active calendar: exercise classes, gym access with allied-health support, crafts, outings to movies and shopping, worship services, and on-site clubs. Transportation services and scheduled outings are seen as strengths that support independence and social engagement. Residents report many opportunities to form friendships and participate in campus life, contributing to a strong sense of community.

Facilities and amenities: The physical plant is regularly described as attractive, well-manicured and recently updated, with practical conveniences such as laundry on each floor, in-unit washer/dryer options, patios or balconies, and accessible walking paths. On-site services such as a salon, bank, and scheduled transportation are additional conveniences cited positively.

Management, cost, and operations: Management and leadership receive positive mentions for organization and communication during tours and moves. However, several operational patterns recur: the entrance buy-in and overall cost structure are considered high by many, and the monthly point system and fee schedules are described as complex and sometimes leading to unexpected charges. Reviewers also note occasional billing inaccuracies and order/service errors, which point to opportunities to improve administrative processes. A number of families mentioned feeling sales pressure during the admissions process, and some wanted clearer, more consistent disclosures about what the base package covers versus what triggers extra fees.

Notable patterns and suitability: Marian Village appears well suited to independent older adults who value an active, faith-oriented community, centralized services, and restaurant-style dining in a newly renovated environment. Those seeking assured access to higher-level memory-care services or highly predictable meal-plan / billing simplicity should seek clarification prior to commitment. Prospective residents and families should request detailed, written explanations of the buy-in, monthly point or fee structure, what care levels are available on-site, and how the community handles dining exceptions and billing corrections to align expectations with operational realities.

    About Marian Village

Marian Village sits in Homer Glen, Illinois, on a large and quiet campus with 80 acres, pretty gardens, and walking paths, so residents can easily enjoy strolls outside or sit in peaceful areas to take in the view. The community has a Catholic mission under the Franciscan Communities, where spiritual well-being matters, and they offer regular religious opportunities and bible study alongside other life-enriching activities. There's a range of living options, including independent living homes and apartments, assisted living apartments, residential care homes for those who need a live-in caregiver, and skilled nursing care. Memory care services are planned for 2025. Home healthcare and non-medical home care are available through Franciscan Care Solutions, with aides to provide support and companionship for seniors living at home.

The community features monthly calendars full of activities like craft classes, shopping trips, luncheons, movie nights, fitness programs, and special events. Residents can visit nearby parks, restaurants such as Miller's Ale House, and stop for coffee at Starbucks, or enjoy local sports, including Blackhawks games and trips to Lake Michigan. They can listen to or play the piano, spend time in the library, or use the game room for recreation. There's plenty of space to join group art projects, attend fitness classes, or join in social gatherings. Marion Village handles daily living needs with 24-hour supervision, assistance with daily activities like dressing and bathing, and medication management. They pay attention to mental wellness, offer specialized dietary options, and serve meals in a dining room with fine silverware and linen-style napkins, using locally sourced foods when possible, and there's a Bistro for more casual options.

Residents have access to Advocate Medical Group and Walgreens pharmacy nearby for health necessities, while the campus is pet-friendly and handicap accessible, and there's always Wi-Fi/high-speed internet for those who want it. The atmosphere aims for a relaxing and active way of living, so people can feel both invigorated and comfortable. There are no guarantees about every service being available all the time, like the non-operating building onsite or specific information not included, but the staff keeps care compassionate and attentive with an eye to both body and spirit. The homes promise a maintenance-free lifestyle for seniors who want to spend more time on hobbies and less on chores, and the campus offers a virtual tour for those wanting a look without visiting in person.
