    Warm attentive staff clean home-like

I chose this facility and I'm very glad I did - the staff are consistently kind, attentive and professional, with nurses, aides and therapists providing excellent care. The dietary team serves fresh, well-seasoned meals and respectfully accommodates allergies and preferences. The building is immaculate and fresh-smelling, and Gwen (activities) and Shannon Hunt stood out for keeping residents engaged and families informed. It feels warm and home-like; I highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewers present a highly mixed picture of care at the facility, with both strong endorsements and serious operational concerns. Positive accounts emphasize compassionate, skilled nurses and CNAs, effective therapists who achieve measurable recovery, an active and engaging activities program (often singled out by name), and a generally clean, well-maintained environment. Several families praised the dietary team for varied, well-seasoned meals and the facility’s ability to accommodate preferences and allergies. Maintenance responsiveness and attentive admissions/medical-records staff are also recurring strengths.

Conversely, a number of reviews describe systemic weaknesses that affect clinical care and family confidence. Communication breakdowns with families and poor administrative follow-through are frequently noted: missed or delayed updates, unanswered calls from management, and billing or deposit disputes. Staffing patterns—including heavy reliance on agency staff, high turnover, and chronic understaffing—are associated with delays in responding to call lights, inconsistent hygiene and toileting assistance, and variable CNA availability. Clinical-care concerns include gaps in wound care and pressure-injury prevention, some transfer- and gait-belt practice issues, and isolated reports suggesting medication-handling and bedside storage lapses.

Dining and facilities receive mixed feedback. Many reviewers commend the dietary manager and the quality and variety of meals, while others report inconsistent meal temperature and occasional service lapses. The facility’s physical environment is described as clean and fresh-smelling by many families, but there are also sanitation and pest-control concerns, dusty areas, and limited climate control in parts of the building. Equipment and amenity issues (outdated beds or small/nonworking TVs in some rooms) were raised alongside praise for responsive maintenance in other instances. Reviewers also described real differences across wings and shifts, with some units cited for consistently better care than others.

Management and governance are a common theme. Several accounts highlight improvements under new leadership—calmer operations, stronger dietary oversight, and better resident care—while other reports point to unresponsive administration, poor communication about clinical and financial matters, and unresolved complaints. There are a small number of serious claims, including allegations of financial misconduct and concerns following resident deaths; these were not uniformly documented and should prompt direct inquiry. Families who had positive experiences often stressed individualized attention and strong teamwork among nurses, CNAs, therapists, and activities staff.

Taken together, the reviews suggest a facility with clear strengths in direct caregiving, therapy, activities, and certain operational areas, but with recurring organizational challenges that can affect day-to-day resident experience. Prospective residents and families would be well served to tour the specific wing under consideration, ask for current staffing ratios and turnover data, review wound-prevention and infection-control protocols, verify billing and deposit policies in writing, and request regular family communication plans before admission.

    About Renwick Nursing & Rehab

Renwick Nursing & Rehab sits at 3401 Hennepin Drive in Joliet, Illinois, and serves as a skilled nursing facility, what folks often call a nursing home, and this place is built for people who need daily nursing care, with a focus on folks with many medical problems and dementia, so the staff gives kindness and care and works with compassion every day for people who need quite a bit of help, and the facility keeps both short-term and long-term residents, which means some people recover between hospital and home, while others stay much longer, and the team specializes in things like heart care, wound care, pain management, and even palliative programs if someone's dealing with serious symptoms, with therapy services such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy designed to help people get stronger or regain skills, and you see that the rehab staff, along with nurses, handle a lot: cardiac rehab, stroke recovery, tracheostomy care, diabetic injections, dialysis, and more, working to make sure each resident can do as much as possible for themselves, and if someone needs a break from caregiving at home, they offer respite care too.

The place has a variety of amenities that provide comfort, like private bathrooms, kitchenettes, cable TV, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and flat-screen TVs in rooms, and if a resident enjoys meals, there's a dining room set up for either restaurant-style dining or meals adjusted for diabetes or allergies, and meals can match a person's dietary restrictions; around the building, you'll find walking paths, an activity room, a library, a community room, outdoor patio, a salon-barber shop, and a fitness room, along with social events, movie nights, and even a community garden, so residents can stay active and connected with others, and you'll notice they offer transportation and parking services for residents or visiting families, in addition to housekeeping, laundry, and family support programs.

The team there bases care on each resident's needs and interests, trying to create a warm and supportive place, and Renwick offers 24-hour skilled nursing so help with bathing, dressing, medication, and transfers is always available, with a daily resident number around ninety-one out of 120 licensed beds. The rooms keep people comfortable, and you'll find plenty of opportunities for both group and individual activities, and residents can use the amenities to fit their own interests and abilities. The therapy and clinical team is described as highly skilled, and the specialty includes memory care services for those living with Alzheimer's or dementia.

Management comes from Central Street Management, LLC since December 2023, with Levi Israel and Steven Miretzky overseeing operations, and Extended Care Clinical is seen as an affiliate. Ownership mainly connects to 71 St And Exchange Member LLC and the Nathan And Shirley Rothner Family Trust, both with a strong financial stake. Despite the facility's strengths, inspectors have cited Renwick for several deficiencies, with a total of 49 in inspection reports, including 7 related to infection control and others for accident hazards and supervision, and the facility's nurse turnover rate is 81.1%, which is higher than the state average of 46.4%, and nurse staffing is a bit below state average at 3.33 nurse hours per resident each day. Following a compliance inspection on October 24, 2024, Renwick faced a fine and a payment suspension, with more complaint inspections happening on January 16, 2025, and October 24, 2024.

Overall, Renwick Nursing & Rehab provides skilled nursing, memory care, rehab, respite, and hospice care, and the aim is for each resident to feel supported, safe, and cared for, but it's important to consider the inspection history and staffing numbers if someone's thinking about moving in.
