    Clean renovated facility; excellent care

I toured and chose this recently renovated, bright, very clean facility and I have no regrets. The staff are friendly, caring, and helpful (Angela and long-tenured aides stood out), nursing and therapy are excellent with 24-hour care and five days/week therapy that helped my mom adjust. Activities are outstanding-bingo, live performers, salon, ice cream parlor-and the food has good variety; administration is organized and focused on resident safety.

    Summary of reviews

Sunny Hill Nursing Homeโ€‘Will County is described predominantly as a wellโ€‘established longโ€‘term care provider with many valued features for residents and families. Strengths frequently cited include a compassionate nursing team, longโ€‘tenured aides who provide continuity, and roundโ€‘theโ€‘clock clinical coverage. The facility appears to invest in rehabilitation and restorative care, offering therapy up to five days per week, which families associate with measurable functional improvement. Management and leadership receive positive mention for organization, teamwork, and a residentโ€‘centered approach.

Dining and social programming are particular highlights. Reviewers consistently note a varied dining program with alternative menu options and buffet service, as well as convivial amenities such as an ice cream parlor, salon, spa treatments, live performers, bingo, and other activities that support social engagement and quality of life. The activities program is described as active and encouraging, and residents often form friendships and participate regularly. These recreational and therapeutic offerings are paired with generally positive accounts of the facilityโ€™s cleanliness, recent remodeling, attractive grounds, large rooms, and dedicated visiting spaces.

At the same time, operational limitations surface as recurring themes. Staffing consistency is an area of concern: reviewers describe variability in staff behavior and availability, including periods of short staffing that affected response times and care during infectionโ€‘control events. Family communication has room for improvement, particularly around timely updates in crisis or outbreak situations. Capacity constraints are evident in sharedโ€‘bathroom arrangements for some rooms and a long waiting list for private accommodations. Some reviewers also noted maintenanceโ€‘related comfort issues (drafty windows, intermittent warm water for showers) and appearance variability while renovations are ongoing.

Overall, Sunny Hill presents as a facility with strong clinical and programmatic assets โ€” attentive clinical staff, an active therapy and activities schedule, and a clean, recently upgraded environment โ€” balanced against recurring operational challenges around staffing stability, family communication, capacity for private rooms, and certain comfort/maintenance issues. Prospective residents and families will likely find the facility attractive for its programming and caregiving strengths, but should directly assess current staffing patterns, waitlist status, bathroom arrangements, and maintenance resolution during a tour and through followโ€‘up questions to administration.

Residents have a say through food and resident councils, and family members can join in too, even helping shape the weekly menus at monthly meetings. Meals include full breakfasts and two choices each for lunch and dinner, with salads, fruit, and daily specials, and residents can eat in the main dining room or in smaller dining areas with their own kitchenette. There's an ice cream parlor, a beauty/barber shop, a library and computer station, gardens, and free WiFi, plus washers and dryers for laundry needs. The place has a strong focus on a homelike environment, encouraging residents to choose when to wake up, get dressed, and take medications. Services also cover laundry, activities, rehabilitation, hospice, respite, and volunteering, with support from a community group called Friends of Sunny Hill. The staff organizes holiday celebrations, special events, and the facility recently marked its 35th anniversary. Sunny Hill works closely with a waitlist for admissions, does its best to match each person's needs, and remains committed to treating everyone with respect and compassion.
