    Caring community, lovely spaces, recommended

I moved my father-in-law to Lexington Square and we're very pleased. The staff are friendly, professional and attentive (nurses, dining, PT and maintenance), the facility is spotless with lovely outdoor spaces, indoor pool, library and many activities, and the spacious apartments are customizable - meals are delicious and the community is warm and supportive (they even have a resident dog mascot). My father-in-law loves it and I'd recommend it to families looking for safe, caring senior living.

    Summary of reviews

Lexington Square Retirement Community of Lombard presents a mixed but overall favorable profile. Many reviewers highlighted the facility's cleanliness, well-kept finishes, bright atrium and hotel-like lobby, and a broad set of on-site amenities — including an indoor pool, exercise and therapy programs, multiple libraries and game rooms, a salon, small grocery, and restaurant-style dining spaces. Apartment options range from studios to two-bedroom units with sizable storage, and several families praised the ability to customize living spaces. The community atmosphere, active programming, and visible social connections among residents are recurring strengths.

Care and staffing elicit both strong praise and recurring operational concerns. Positive accounts emphasize compassionate, attentive caregivers, long-tenured employees, responsive front-desk service, and a capable rehabilitation/physical-therapy team. At the same time, reviewers described variability in staffing coverage and professional conduct, with reliance on agency nurses in some shifts and occasional delays in responding to resident needs. More serious themes include concerns about medication-administration processes and instances that families perceived as lapses in clinical follow-up. The facility does demonstrate structured safety measures (including active nursing availability and infection-control protocols at times), but a number of families recommended direct questions about staffing ratios, medication controls, and agency use during tours.

Dining and activities are generally well regarded, but with some inconsistency. Many residents enjoy the dining-room experience, presentation, desserts, and attentive wait staff; the activity roster is broad with exercise classes, water therapy, outings, clubs, and regular entertainment. Conversely, several reviewers noted a tendency toward higher-starch meals, limited fresh-fruit or lighter options, and variable meal quality on occasion. Activity visibility and scheduling also appeared inconsistent for some families, especially during periods of staffing strain or heightened infection-control restrictions, so prospective residents should confirm current daily schedules and menu planning.

Facility layout and operations present trade-offs. Public areas and the main amenities are described as attractive and maintained, yet some residential common spaces on individual floors are small and offer limited privacy; many apartments are shared or double-occupancy by design, which may not suit those seeking private accommodations. Parking is frequently constrained and outdoor areas, while featuring a gazebo and pond, were sometimes described as adjacent to parking and less secluded than expected. Management and administrative processes drew mixed feedback: some reviewers praised proactive follow-up and helpful leadership, while others reported move-in coordination gaps, inconsistent communication with families, and slow billing or refund resolution.

In summary, Lexington Square Lombard offers a robust amenities package, a strong community feel, and many instances of attentive clinical and rehabilitation care. However, there are consistent operational patterns worth investigating in person: staffing consistency and reliance on agency personnel, medication-administration controls, dining nutrition options, privacy and rooming configurations, parking availability, and administrative communication and billing practices. Prospective residents and families should schedule a focused tour that asks for up-to-date staffing ratios, medication-safety protocols, availability of private units, sample menus, current activity calendars, and clarification on move-in and billing procedures to assess fit relative to their priorities.
