    Kind staff, excellent care, amenities

I placed my grandmother here and have been very pleased overall. The staff-especially Rochelle, Angie and Gabby-are kind, patient and went above and beyond; nurses are on duty 24/7 and provided compassionate end-of-life care. The apartments are nice with appliances, utilities and meals included, the facility is clean and relaxed, and there are great amenities (cafeteria, chapel, exercise room, library, activities and transportation); I'm grateful for the caring, professional team.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviewers portray Golden Years Homestead as a facility with many strengths in day-to-day care and programming alongside operational inconsistencies that families should evaluate. Praise centers on the caregiving team, nursing availability, and a broad set of onsite amenities and activities. However, recurring practical concerns around housekeeping, personal-property handling, and communication warrant attention when considering placement.

Care and staff: The caregiving and nursing staff receive consistent positive feedback for kindness, patience and individualized attention. Families commonly describe staff as friendly, engaging and willing to accommodate resident preferences; a 24-hour nursing presence and access to higher-level nursing services are noted as reassuring features. At the same time, reviewers point to staffing constraints at times, which appear to correlate with delays in routine tasks and uneven responsiveness to family inquiries.

Dining and activities: Dining is described positively, with reviewers noting a varied menu and accommodations for special diets. Daily and weekly programming appears robust — crafts, games, movies, outings and a large recreation area support ongoing social engagement. Onsite amenities such as a salon, chapel, exercise room, library and scheduled transportation and church services further enhance resident life.

Facilities and housekeeping: The building and apartments are frequently described as modern and spacious, with pleasant outdoor areas and well-maintained common spaces. Nonetheless, there are several reports of inconsistent room cleaning and sanitation concerns in private rooms, and reviewers also raise issues with tracking or returning personal belongings during transitions. Prospective families should confirm housekeeping schedules and property-management procedures during tours.

Management and communication patterns: A clear pattern in the reviews is mixed communication quality. While some families find staff informative and accommodating, others report gaps in timely updates and a perception of aggressive or high-pressure interactions during move-ins, transfers, or disputes. Separate concerns relate to post-transition procedures and end-of-life communication; some families sought more proactive bereavement communication and clearer guidance after a resident’s passing.

What to verify on a visit: Ask about current staffing levels and how the facility covers peak needs, housekeeping schedules and protocols for personal-item inventory and return, examples of individualized care plans and dietary accommodations, and the process for family communication during clinical changes and transitions. Also inquire about bereavement and discharge procedures so expectations are clear before move-in. Overall, the facility demonstrates many of the services families seek, but operational consistency in housekeeping, property handling and communication appears to be the main area for improvement.

    About Golden Years Homestead, Inc.

Golden Years Homestead, Inc. in Fort Wayne, Indiana offers a quiet place for seniors who want independent living, assisted living, or need healthcare help, so there are many options for different needs. On the campus, there are 72 independent living villas, and they're designed for people who can handle their routine but enjoy having others around. If someone needs more help, there are 44 assisted living rooms with 24-hour care, where staff helps with things like bathing, dressing, and taking medicine. Golden Years also has 13 short-term rehab beds for people who need less than 100 days to recover, and 85 medical beds for those who need more medical attention. For people with Alzheimer's, there are 26 secure care beds in a special memory care area, and in total the nursing care facility has 111 comprehensive care beds with private or semi-private rooms.

The campus has a warm entrance with an American flag, and inside the reception area shows artwork that's nice to look at. There are outdoor patios for relaxing, and the Memory Care wing is quiet with blue floral chairs and soft artwork. Memory Care residents can also spend time in the Arbor Cafe, which serves fresh food and drinks in a space made for comfort. Common areas for independent and assisted living include soft seats, fireplaces, and bookshelves, and there are spaces to play billiards or just sit in recreation rooms with nice furnishings. The movie theater is set up with recliners, blankets, and a big screen for residents to enjoy films without leaving home. There's even a chapel in Assisted Living, with gentle lighting, a piano, and banners with positive words. The on-site salon helps people look and feel their best, with areas for hair styling, manicures, and pedicures. When therapy's needed, the rehabilitation gym has the tools and machines for physical therapy and recovery exercises.

Golden Years Homestead, Inc. is a non-profit with a Christian background, and they provide programs for people who can't pay for care, which helps some folks stay safe and well looked after. Meals are cooked with good ingredients and served in pleasant dining areas. Daily life includes a range of activities-some are social, some are for fun, others are for wellness and devotion. You often see staff going out of their way to be helpful, and people notice how friendly the environment is. The facility offers healthcare and extra services like diabetes care, incontinence care, and help for those who cannot walk, making sure each person's needs can be met. Golden Years really does make room for social events and provides wellness programs designed to help people stay healthy and active, whether someone wants to meet neighbors or just enjoy a quiet spot outside. The whole place is built with the idea that people should feel comfortable, be treated with dignity, and have a little peace as they grow older, and there's real effort to make the campus feel not too big or busy, but more like a home where people can live their own way but have help at hand if they need it.
