    Kind attentive staff comfortable facility

I'm very pleased with our experience moving my mom here. The staff are kind, attentive and skilled, caregivers are engaging and responsive, and residents seemed friendly and active. Meals are customizable (brownies and smoothies!), grooming help and outings keep things lively, and the facility is clean, organized, with pleasant green space and renovated Cottages offering larger rooms. Overall a comforting, well-run place that was a good fit after hospitalization.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews describe a community with many resident-centered strengths alongside several operational concerns. Care quality is frequently characterized as attentive and comforting; families noted successful short-term rehabilitation transitions and residents described staff as kind, enthusiastic, and engaging. The community offers skilled care capacity and hands-on assistance, and many reviewers highlighted individualized attention and responsive help for day-to-day needs.

Staff performance receives mixed but specific feedback. Positive comments emphasize friendly, engaged caregivers and staff who participate in activities and provide personal grooming assistance. At the same time, there are consistent themes of staffing instability and variability in professional conduct: reviewers mention perceived staffing shortages, instances of unprofessional tone or boundary-crossing behavior, and concerns about clinical training for some nursing staff. Several comments also pointed to delays in responding to resident call systems. These items suggest unevenness in staff consistency and supervision rather than uniform failure across the site.

Dining and activities are recurring strengths. The menu is described as customizable with appealing options and treats, and programming includes organized games, movie outings, and salon-style grooming services. Recreational offerings and communal events appear to foster a social atmosphere; reviewers commonly described residents as engaged and the social tone as welcoming.

The physical campus and amenities are generally well-regarded. Multiple reviewers praised the attractive landscaping, outdoor green space, balconies, and renovated common areas. Private cottages and larger rooms were singled out as desirable, and facilities such as an exercise room and workshop were noted as useful additions. Ongoing renovation work was mentioned; it improves facilities but can also introduce intermittent disruptions.

Management and operational oversight are areas of concern in some accounts. There are perceptions of distracted or uneven administrative attention and, in a few instances, stressful interactions involving staff conduct. These observations point to opportunities for clearer supervisory practices and stronger expectations around professionalism and response times.

In summary, Hearthstone presents as a largely positive option for families seeking an engaging community with attractive grounds, customizable dining, and practical rehabilitation support. Prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against reported variability in staffing consistency, clinical training, responsiveness, and occasional administrative issues. A tour focused on observing staffing patterns, response times to call systems, and current renovation impacts would help determine fit for an individual’s needs.

    About Hearthstone - Pella

Hearthstone, a WesleyLife Community for Healthy Living, sits in Pella, Iowa, and gives older adults a safe and supportive environment where caring staff help residents live a full and vibrant life, and there's Nancy Hamilton guiding the services there, which include many options like independent living, assisted living, memory support, short-term rehabilitation, long-term nursing care, and at-home services such as home care, palliative care, hospice, and Meals on Wheels, so people can find the level of support that fits their needs best. The staff are known to be friendly, joyful, and kind, and the community runs on principles of Christian compassion, and residents can join various daily activities, devotional programs, movie nights, music sessions, fitness opportunities, and volunteer chances that keep everyone engaged, active, and connected, while nourishing meals planned by chefs take care of nutrition.

Residents have access to a Certified Nursing Assistant class and a comprehensive program that helps people build medical and caregiving skills, which is good for those interested in long-term care work. Hearthstone focuses on holistic health, celebrating mind, body, and spirit, and supports people in maintaining independence while helping with daily needs like bathing, dressing, transfers, medication management, and healthcare services for things such as diabetes and incontinence. The facility has a large campus with comfortable living spaces and lovely landscaping, plus many amenities like game rooms, a library, walking paths, a business room, fitness room, gardens, spa and wellness rooms, barber/salon, and several indoor and common gathering areas, so residents have plenty of places to socialize and relax.

All campuses have 12- to 16-hour nursing, a round-the-clock call system, and 24-hour supervision, which adds a sense of safety, and Hearthstone makes it easy for residents to get to local healthcare services, because it's close to places like Pella Regional Health Center and pharmacies, while restaurants, churches, and stores nearby give even more ways to fill the day. Hearthstone offers transportation for outings, and supports both community-run and resident-run activities, encouraging people to stay connected with friends and take part in meaningful ways both inside and outside the campus, with person-directed living meant to let each resident shape their own experience and purpose, and for those who want to volunteer, there are always opportunities both in the facility and out in the broader Pella area. Hearthstone balances professional services with a homey feel, offering a full range of care in a warm, welcoming setting, and is recognized regionally for providing strong support for seniors seeking holistic wellness and a vibrant, connected community.
