The Arbordale sits right along the Urbandale walking trail at 2727 82nd Pl, Urbandale, Iowa, and offers a place for folks 55 and older who want to stay active and independent in a quiet, comfortable setting without worrying about home maintenance. Nobody's allowed to bring pets, and the community helps folks make new friends, get involved in daily activities, and enjoy social events and educational programs, whether that's exercise classes, movie nights, or concerts. You can pick from several one- and two-bedroom floor plans that are energy efficient, spacious, and easy to take care of, and people can choose the pricing plan that fits them best since the place works as an independent living rental community with no worries about handling repairs or yard work. There's staff around who are trained to assist and look after residents, always aiming to make folks feel at home and help with whatever they need, and there's also skilled care on-site for those who need extra help, including memory care for people living with Alzheimer's or other dementias. You'll find a community room, fireside lounge, wellness center, coffee shop, library, game and billiards room, a theater, salon, private dining rooms, guest rooms, a workshop, garden, indoor mail and storage areas, courtyard parking, and parking under the building for those who drive. Activities and programs are always running, designed so residents can stay engaged and keep their minds active, and there's scheduled transportation available, so folks can get to appointments or outings with no trouble. Weekday mornings come with a complimentary continental breakfast, and there's an option for evening dining Mondays through Fridays if that's what suits someone, plus the meals come from a kitchen led by James Beard Nominated Chef Enosh Kelley, meaning you get a variety of choices. The grounds and building have been renovated with a new game room, theater, wellness center, and coffee shop, all to help make things more enjoyable and modern. The no-pets rule stands, but residents do get a say in how they spend their days and can use the many amenities, like the workshop for hobbies or the garden area for a bit of peace. Memory care and assisted living are there too, and folks who need help with things like bathing or getting dressed can get personalized support. The property doesn't feel stuffy, with guest suites for visitors, cozy lounges, a handy elevator, and locked storage if someone needs more space. The Arbordale stays focused on letting people live independently if they're able, while also stepping in with more hands-on support if health needs change, and the place still feels like a regular apartment home, just with a lot more help if you want it and a lot less worry about chores. The community is close to shops, restaurants, and parks, making it easy to get out when you want, and there's always something happening, like craft sessions, group talks, or wellness checks. There's an information kit for anyone interested, and tours can be arranged, so folks can see the community first-hand and decide whether it's a good fit. Welcoming community, spacious apartments, pricey
I moved into Arbordale and immediately felt at home - the staff are caring and friendly, residents are welcoming, and the place has a genuine family feel. My apartment is spacious, bright, well-appointed with a full kitchen, huge closets and in-unit washer/dryer; common areas are clean, attractive and well managed. There's a full calendar of activities and excellent dining (Chef Rosie) - note meals are often extra and you pay for what you sign up for. Quiet, convenient location with underground parking available; my only caveat is the price and fees can be high. Overall I'd recommend it if the cost fits your budget.
