    Warm compassionate staff and clean

I toured Mission Health Communities and was impressed by their marketing and prompt follow-up-Dawn was professional, informative, and made the process easy. The DON, CNAs, social worker and entire staff are compassionate, knowledgeable, and regularly go above and beyond; the building is clean and covid-free and residents seemed genuinely happy. New management has clearly turned things around with strong healthcare partners and improved rehab/transitional care. I'm very pleased and would recommend this warm, well-run community.

    Summary of reviews

El Dorado Care and Rehabilitation presents a mixed operational profile. Positive aspects frequently described include a pleasant, picturesque campus and a folksy, home-like atmosphere supported by spacious common areas such as a large dining room and a dedicated activity room. Reviewers repeatedly note a strong network of clinical partners (laboratory, pharmacy, therapy, hospice) that supports transitional and rehabilitative care. Admissions and outreach functions โ€” frequently associated with a named point person โ€” are highlighted as responsive and helpful.

Clinical care and staff performance generate both strong praise and notable concerns. Many families and visitors describe caring, attentive CNAs and nurses who go above and beyond, and leadership (including the Director of Nursing) and new management have been credited with improving morale and operations. At the same time, there are recurring notes about inconsistent staff conduct and tone, variability in responsiveness to resident requests, and isolated allegations of unexplained marks on residents that families found inadequately explained. These themes point to uneven performance across shifts or teams rather than uniformly poor or uniformly excellent care.

Dining and kitchen operations are another area of mixed feedback. Dedicated kitchen staff and individualized meal attention are frequently commended, and activities programming receives positive remarks. However, infrastructure problems โ€” notably limited or nonfunctional air conditioning, hot kitchen conditions, and some appliance failures โ€” have been reported as affecting resident comfort and operational continuity.

Facility condition and environmental services are similarly divided. Public areas and common spaces are often described as clean and well maintained, and infectionโ€‘control efforts (including maintaining a COVIDโ€‘free status) have been emphasized. Conversely, some reviewers describe sanitation concerns in resident rooms, inconsistent laundry handling and clothing mixโ€‘ups, and visible cosmetic maintenance needs (patchy paint, dated finishes), suggesting variable housekeeping or room-level attention.

Administrative processes and family communication are a recurring concern. Examples include billing disputes, difficulty obtaining timely callbacks, early or unexpected discharges relative to family expectations, and gaps in how incidents are documented and communicated to families. Operationally, the facility also appears limited in its ability to accept residents who require higher-acuity services.

Overall, El Dorado seems to be an institution with many strengths โ€” especially in partnerships, rehabilitation services, community atmosphere, and pockets of excellent staff performance โ€” while simultaneously exhibiting operational inconsistencies in facility upkeep, staffing reliability, incident communication, and administrative coordination. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong clinical partnerships, engaged staff members, and active management improvements against the need to confirm room-level cleanliness practices, HVAC and kitchen condition, incident-notification protocols, and the facilityโ€™s capacity for higher-acuity care before admission.

About El Dorado Care and Rehabilitation

El Dorado Care And Rehabilitation sits at 900 Country Club Lane in El Dorado, Kansas, and offers many kinds of care for older adults, whether someone needs short-term help after a hospital stay or long-term nursing or memory care for conditions like Alzheimer's. The facility includes skilled nursing services with 24-hour help from both professional nurses and certified nurse assistants, with teams meeting often to discuss how to adjust care based on each person's needs, and also has a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic for therapy, so people can get physical, occupational, and speech therapy on either a short-stay outpatient basis or as an inpatient over the long term, making it easier for folks who need regular therapy or help relearning skills after illness or injury.

The community has a focus on offering different kinds of care, including assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, palliative care, comfort care, respite care, and help with usual daily living, along with special services for people needing orthopedic care, cardiac management, pulmonary management, sepsis care, wound care, IV therapy, and clinical needs like CPAP/BiPAP, wound vacs, neuro/CVA care, cardiac rehab, pulmonary rehab, and even transportation to hemodialysis, so there's a wide range of support for people with very different medical and daily needs. Staff speak English, and though there's no official word on other languages, the team has a reputation of being friendly, compassionate, and well-regarded by residents and families, with awards for community support, resident reviews, and for meals made with quality ingredients since nutrition gets a lot of focus, with wholesome food planned and cooked by recreation and nutrition staff.

The facility went through renovations between 2023 and 2024, and in its two buildings on North Gordy Street, they offer both private and semi-private rooms, with all utilities included in the rent, plus an emergency call system in every apartment for added safety, so seniors who live there can feel a bit more peace of mind, and there are modern appliances, central heat and air, and several shared spaces like a dining room, community room with a full kitchen, social and exercise rooms, and a beauty shop. Pets like cats and dogs are allowed, which is a comfort for many, and people can use outdoor living spaces and Wifi throughout the community, not to mention complimentary transportation and parking, which means there's help getting to appointments or outings. The activities range from group events to individual social, mental, and physical engagement through programs planned by staff, with a goal to support well-being in body and mind, making sure people can join in as much as they're able.

El Dorado Care And Rehabilitation is for seniors 55 and older and provides income-based senior apartments, offering both independence and different levels of care, all focused on comfort, safety, and dignity, so people who need a little or a lot of help can stay as active and comfortable as possible in a clean, friendly setting run by El Dorado Operator LLC.
