    Attentive staff, clean, homey facility

I placed my mom at Cambridge and was very satisfied with the attentive, kind staff who provided excellent skin care and therapy. The newly remodeled, very clean facility felt warm and home-like; staff were responsive, friendly, and treated residents like family. Communication with families was good and amenities like the salon, courtyard, and rehab gyms were helpful. Overall a positive experience and I would recommend Cambridge.

    Summary of reviews

Cambridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center presents a mixed picture: many reviewers praise the clinical and rehabilitative services while a not-insignificant portion raise operational and conduct-related concerns. The facility offers Medicare-certified beds and a visible on-site rehabilitation program, including rehab gyms and a full-time physical therapist; several families specifically noted effective therapy and attentive clinical care. Recent ownership changes and refurbishment efforts have modernized the interior in many areas, and physical amenities such as a salon and courtyard were highlighted as positives.

Care quality and staff behavior are described unevenly. Numerous accounts emphasize compassionate, family-like caregiving, long-tenured staff, and clear family communication; reviewers praised attentive nurses and therapy teams and described residents as comfortable and well cared for. Conversely, other reports point to inconsistent professionalism among some staff members, including concerns about tone, responsiveness, and conduct during interactions with residents and families. One serious personnel matter resulted in disciplinary action, which some reviewers referenced when they expressed worry about incident handling.

Dining and activities show variability. Several reviewers described the dining area as basic and criticized food quality, while others did not raise issues. The activities program appears to be improving: reviewers noted a new activities director and ramped-up offerings, but some families said they observed limited programming during their visits. Rehabilitation services are generally cited as a strength, though there are operational limits such as shortened therapy plans and limited or no weekend coverage that may affect continuity for some residents.

Facility condition and infection-control/cleanliness issues are similarly mixed. Many reviewers described the building as clean, welcoming, and recently modernized; others raised sanitation and pest-control concerns in certain areas. The facility has implemented updates like a new call-light system, but some accounts describe delayed nursing responses and slow call-button timeliness.

Management, admissions, and administrative processes are recurring areas of concern. Several families described helpful and compassionate administrative staff, and the facility offers assistance with Medicaid filing; at the same time, other accounts portray inconsistent admissions communication, unreturned calls, confusion around Medicaid eligibility and co-pay billing, and aggressive or unclear billing practices. Operational weaknesses also extend to laundry and personal-possession controls and visitor parking enforcement, which contributed to family frustration.

Overall, Cambridge appears to offer substantive clinical and rehabilitative capabilities and has made visible investments in physical upgrades. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facility’s strong therapy resources, dedicated long-term staff, and recent modernization against operational inconsistencies in management, communication, dining, housekeeping/pest control, and occasional concerning staff conduct. For families considering this facility, an on-site visit focused on current management practices, staffing levels, therapy schedules (including weekend coverage), dining observations, and inventory controls for personal items would help clarify whether the environment matches their expectations and needs.

About Cambridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center

Cambridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center sits at 2020 Cambridge Drive in Lexington, KY and has served its community for over 20 years, and folks know it for providing skilled nursing and rehabilitation services with a focus on individualized care. The place takes in residents for both long-term and short-term stays, including respite care, and holds a total of 108 certified beds with an average daily census of about 95 people, so there's usually activity and folks around even though it isn't overcrowded. You'll see a modern layout with recent renovations, and you'll find comfortable living spaces along with outdoor spots where residents can sit and enjoy the air, which matters on a nice afternoon, and they offer both on-site and off-site activities to keep people active and connected. The staff specialize in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, dementia care, post-acute and palliative care, so people needing these types of help don't have to go far because it's on-site, and the care team really works to make sure each resident gets a care plan that suits their needs and goals. People who can't walk or need high-acuity care or help with incontinence can get that support here, and staff stay focused on providing comfort and a safe environment, plus the facility has amenities like indoor and outdoor common areas, devotional activities, beautician services, and meals with room options that include baths, tubs, views, and wheelchair accessible showers. Cambridge has 3.82 nurse hours per resident each day, and while the nurse turnover rate sits at 62.5%, which is a bit on the high side, the staff work to maintain a welcoming and supportive environment where folks can feel at home, even with the challenges that come with nursing care. The center has faced 13 deficiencies in inspections from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, with three infection-related issues and some quality of life and care concerns around infection prevention and accident hazard supervision; these are matters to be aware of, although the team continues to address them as inspections require. Cambridge accepts Medicaid and is managed by Valley Stream Operator I LLC, along with Mayer Fischl and Eli Grinspan, since April 2023, and has a sister location at Provider Court in Richmond, KY. Residents can take part in engaging social events, so there's always something going on for those who like company, and the place offers a few special programs and community connections, like "Salute to Small Business" awards and Past Trip programs-though those are more for community ties than daily care. Membership benefits, business networking events, and local business directories connect Cambridge to the broader business community, but for residents, what stands out is the honest focus on comprehensive care, individualized support, and a daily environment that feels safe, steady, and neighborly.
