    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews present a mixed picture in which clear strengths coexist with recurring operational weaknesses. Many families and visitors praise the facility's appearance, noting clean and attractive interiors, a peaceful atmosphere, and semiโ€‘private rooms that provide a degree of privacy. Numerous comments highlight individual staff members who are caring, attentive, and professional; for some residents and families this translated to highโ€‘quality, dignified care and reassurance during difficult transitions.

Care and clinical concerns: A prominent pattern relates to variability in clinical care quality. Several accounts describe timely, compassionate care, while others point to inconsistent monitoring and followโ€‘up โ€” for example, delayed responses after falls, progression of pressure wounds, and gaps in postโ€‘incident communication. These patterns suggest weaknesses in transferโ€‘safety practices, wound surveillance, and incident followโ€‘up rather than isolated technical errors. There are also concerns about coordination with hospice and medication processes; some families experienced confusing or inconsistent actions around medications and endโ€‘ofโ€‘life care.

Staffing and conduct: Staffing levels and reliability are recurring issues. Reviewers note inconsistent staffing across shifts, especially evenings, and frequent turnover or reassignment of CNAs and nurses. This contributes to delays in attending to residents, lapses in routine tasks (such as alarm management and restroom assistance), and variability in staff conduct and responsiveness. While many staff members are described as compassionate and professional, families also describe occasions of poor responsiveness and concerns about staff tone and handling, indicating uneven training or supervision.

Dining, equipment, and environment: Dining service elicited mixed feedback: some reviewers praised meal presentation and the facility's ambiance, while others noted cold or delayed meals and the need to request basic items such as water or ice. Equipment and supply availability (wheelchairs, oxygen delivery, covered pitchers) was cited as sporadic, which can affect timeliness of care. Maintenance impressions vary by area โ€” commonly described as clean and well cared for, yet some comments point to localized maintenance and sanitation concerns in outdoor or communal spaces.

Management, communication, and oversight: Communication with families and transparency around incidents are areas of consistent concern. Reviewers describe insufficient notification after falls or clinical declines, missing personal items or medications, and limited followโ€‘up from management. A minority of accounts reference serious allegations that prompted external review; these accounts underscore family frustration with investigation transparency and organizational oversight. Conversely, other families report proactive nurse outreach and regular care conferences, indicating inconsistency in administrative followโ€‘through.

Notable patterns for decisionโ€‘making: The facility appears to offer a wellโ€‘maintained environment and several exemplary caregiving staff, but operational inconsistenciesโ€”particularly staffing reliability, clinical followโ€‘up, family communication, dining continuity, and equipment availabilityโ€”create variable experiences. Prospective residents and families should evaluate current staffing patterns (especially evening coverage), clarify procedures for incident notification and investigation, verify hospice/medication coordination practices, and tour specific units to assess cleanliness and supervision. Where continuity of nursing assistants and transparent incident processes are priorities, further inquiry prior to placement is advisable.

About St. Clare Manor Nursing Home

St. Clare Manor Nursing Home sits at 7435 Bishop Ott Drive in Baton Rouge, and if you're looking at the numbers, you'll notice it has 184 certified beds and usually about 136 residents each day, which means there's always a fair bit of activity with folks coming and going for care or staying long-term. The facility has served under Danicus Landry's management since July 2023 and operates for profit as part of the Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. St. Clare Manor Nursing Home gives nursing care in a setting where they also help folks with home healthcare, long-term needs, and special support for conditions like depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, alcohol and substance abuse.

There's a wide mix of staff too, with psychiatric, pediatric, speech, occupational, intravenous, and physical therapy specialists working in the building, making sure residents get help with eating, daily living, or even for things like strokes or trouble speaking. St. Clare Manor Nursing Home offers nursing and rehabilitation services, and they've got both inpatient and outpatient therapies, not leaving out recreational activities to help folks stay engaged. They take some time with nutrition too, making meals that aim to match dietary needs, and they're supposed to follow rules on infection prevention, though inspection reports show four infection-related issues along with a total of 29 cited deficiencies. That might worry some, as well as knowing the nurse turnover sits at 73.9%, which is higher than Louisiana's state average, and the nurse hours per resident per day comes in below the state's usual.

They've also set up certain amenities you'd expect from a larger home, like a beauty and barber shop for men and women, hospice services for end-of-life support, general health care, and help with daily care. You'll find the facility has features around resident assessment, care planning, and making sure patient information stays private, though there's no available information about their approach to managing employees. Insurance options are present for residents, and St. Clare Manor Nursing Home claims commitment to aiding folks across their healthcare needs, though feedback from reviews gives them a 2.0 rating out of 10 online. While the facility offers comprehensive healthcare and aims to be a steady partner for different health stages, some may want to consider the inspection record and nurse turnover before making decisions.
