    Bright clean homey care community

I moved my mom in and I'm very pleased. The place is bright, clean and homey, staff are warm, attentive and responsive, and they offer a full continuum of care. Meals are excellent with many options, activities are varied and active, and the grounds are pleasant and pet-friendly. It's a comfortable, supportive community - a strong choice for independent or assisted living.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Sunnybrook Senior Living is consistently described as a small, well-kept, home-like community with strong interpersonal care and an active cultural life. Families emphasize a warm, family-like atmosphere and staff who are welcoming, personable, and skilled at making new residents feel at home. The community’s size and layout support easy navigation and close staff–resident relationships, which reviewers associate with a sense of safety and individualized attention.

Care and staff: Care quality is a prominent strength. Nursing and caregiving staff are characterized as attentive, compassionate, and knowledgeable; reviewers frequently note that staff learn residents’ names and preferences, provide personalized support, and collaborate effectively across housekeeping and maintenance. The facility’s ability to provide assisted living and memory-care services in the same campus is a clear operational advantage for those seeking continuity of care. At the same time, there are operational concerns tied to administrative change: a number of comments describe uneven follow-through from management during transitions and specific functionality issues (for example, an emergency-call system) that prospective residents should verify.

Dining: Dining is generally praised for quality and variety, with several references to farm-to-table offerings, multiple entree choices, and accommodations such as gluten-free options. Many families describe the food as delicious and the dining room as pleasant with scenic views. That said, perceptions of the dining experience are not uniform; some residents described a more cafeteria-like feel or expressed dissatisfaction on certain occasions. Prospective residents should sample meals and ask about regular menu rotation and special-diet accommodations.

Activities and programs: The activity program is a strong selling point for active residents: choir, guest musicians, walking clubs, bocce, lectures, Tai Chi, book groups, games (cribbage, Tripoly), cultural outings, and church services form a diverse calendar. Music and cultural outreach are especially prominent features. However, reviewers also note variability in programming intensity and availability; some residents or visitors observed fewer activities or would like more crafts and recreational options. In practical terms, fit depends on an individual’s mobility and interests—those seeking a highly social, active lifestyle will likely find many options, while less-mobile residents may see fewer tailored offerings.

Facilities and amenities: Facilities are frequently described as immaculate, bright, and tastefully decorated, with attractive common areas, dining spaces, and outdoor views (pond, birch trees, river views). On-site amenities such as a salon, exercise room, library, and small performance-capable spaces add to the community feel. Apartment sizes vary; studios and one- and two-bedroom layouts are available, though some units are small and periodic renovations can delay move-in readiness. Prospective residents should confirm unit condition and timing if immediacy is important.

Management, fees, and notable patterns: Management and administrative matters receive mixed comments. Leadership and front-line staff are often praised for empathy and responsiveness, yet several operational issues recur: additional fees for personal-care services and other add-ons, uneven administrative follow-through during management transitions, and occasional lapses in service coordination (including pet arrangements and readiness of rooms). A specific concern to screen for is accommodation for chemical sensitivities or air-quality needs; at least one household found the environment incompatible for that reason. Visitors should request a clear written schedule of fees, ask about service inclusions, verify emergency systems, and discuss any specific environmental sensitivities in advance.

Bottom line: Sunnybrook appears to offer a high-touch, community-oriented experience with strong caregiving, varied cultural programming, attractive grounds, and flexible care levels that support aging-in-place. The most important due-diligence items for prospective residents and families are to confirm fee structures and service inclusions, sample meals, review the activity calendar for individual fit, verify unit-readiness timelines, and ask directly about accommodations for air-quality or chemical-sensitivity needs. These checks will help determine whether Sunnybrook’s largely positive programmatic and interpersonal strengths align with an individual’s medical, lifestyle, and budgetary requirements.

    About Sunnybrook Senior Living

Sunnybrook Senior Living sits by Moose Pond in Brunswick, Maine, and the place feels homey right away, partly because the staff-the nurses, kitchen helpers, managers, and front desk folks-greet everyone kindly and keep an eye out for what residents might need, whether that's help with meals, medication, hygiene, or just a friendly word. Friends and family can come visit, enjoy meals together, and join activities, which makes it easier for residents to stay connected. The apartments come in studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms, and many have views of Moose Pond, big windows for sunlight, and allow pets, which folks seem to appreciate. You're not dealing with chores like housekeeping or laundry since those are included, and the daily routine includes three meals made from scratch, served in either the Moose Pond Dining Room or the Good Dog Café, plus snacks and private dining if someone wants to celebrate with friends.

The community offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing all in one spot, so people can stay as their needs change, and that aging-in-place focus seems to matter a lot to families. There's hospice and respite care, too, so someone recovering from an illness or giving a caregiver a break has a safe place to stay. Memory care gets special focus, with safe spaces designed to help folks with Alzheimer's or dementia avoid getting lost or confused, and the program staff always looks for ways to keep everyone social, active, and engaged. The activities calendar is pretty full, with social events, fitness classes, entertainment, and games, plus educational and recreational programs.

Transportation comes complimentary for appointments and outings, Wi-Fi's available, parking's easy, and for folks who like a haircut now and then, there's a salon and barber on site. The building spans two stories, with walking paths outside, safe and secure entry, emergency response, and a team ready to step in when someone needs help right away. Housekeeping, meals, and support with daily tasks are all taken care of, so residents can keep their focus on the things they enjoy. The community leans into dignity, comfort, and providing a worry-free lifestyle, with specialized care plans for each resident, so seniors with different needs-whether fully independent, needing some assistance, or facing memory challenges-can all find a place here where they're treated with respect and kindness.
