    Caring competent respectful calm homey

I feel confident leaving my loved one here. The staff are caring, competent, and always respectful, and the atmosphere is calm. The charming historic building-with a wrap-around porch, hanging flower baskets, and manicured grounds-really feels like home, and the family-run owners are attentive. Very pleased overall.

    Summary of reviews

Windham Residential Care presents a mixed picture. Reviewers consistently describe strengths in the interpersonal aspects of care: staff are characterized as caring, competent, and respectful, and the facility atmosphere is described as calm and quiet. The property itself receives positive mention for its historic character, wrap-around porch, decorative plantings, and generally well-kept exterior landscaping. The family-operated nature of the facility is highlighted as a point of continuity and personal attention.

At the same time, several reviewers raised substantive concerns about environmental cleanliness and dining services. Specific sanitation concerns were cited in bathrooms and dining areas, and the dining experience was described as inconsistent in both food quality and preparation standards. The facility’s physical layout and operations appear to include limited private bathroom availability for residents, which reviewers linked to decreased privacy and convenience. These operational weaknesses suggest gaps in routine environmental maintenance and infection-prevention practices.

Management and oversight emerge as an area requiring attention. Reviewers indicated that some issues were escalated to external oversight (including communications to the state licensing office and follow-up documentation), which points to potential regulatory-compliance questions and the need for clearer, more consistent operational controls. Families also expressed that costs felt high relative to the perceived level of service and upkeep.

For prospective residents and families, the facility’s interpersonal strengths and attractive grounds may be appealing, especially for those prioritizing a small, family-run environment. However, those for whom dining standards, private bathroom access, or consistently maintained communal spaces are priorities should seek detailed, up-to-date information from management about current sanitation protocols, bathroom-to-resident ratios, meal planning and kitchen oversight, and any corrective actions taken in response to regulatory attention. A focused tour that inspects dining areas, bathrooms, and housekeeping practices — and direct discussion with management about recent corrective measures and inspection history — would be appropriate before making a placement decision.

    About Windham Residential Care

Windham Residential Care includes several assisted living homes and senior communities around Windham, Maine, like Bishop House, Timberhill House, Casa V, Casa VII, Forbes Lane, Billabong, and Windham Pines, and you'll find these at addresses such as 495 River Road, 20 Bishop Drive, 17 Timberhill Road, 109 Forbes Lane, 15 Quail Drive, 11 Bishop Drive, 4 Quail Drive, and 15 Billabong Way, and when folks talk about the River Road location, they mention it sits in a two-hundred-year-old building that has a comforting family-owned style, a warm wrap-around porch with flower baskets, and a calm, personal feel that helps people settle in. You'll see that Windham Residential Care operates under several state licenses like RCC1592, RCC1792, RCC1587, RCC180, RCC182, RCC2172, RCC2190, and PND1180, and the caregivers, including those supervised by Carol Rogers, are trained to help with daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and medication management, and they tailor care plans for each resident's needs, aiming to support people who need some help to live safely and comfortably but don't need round-the-clock skilled nursing. Each location offers assisted living, memory care for those who struggle with memory loss, home care options, respite care for short-term stays, and some are pet-friendly, and you'll hear about a small-to-medium community size, with rooms that give comfort and privacy, sometimes in a cozy 10-bed home, and there's always a focus on offering simple studio layouts. Residents have access to nursing care, health monitoring, and a social calendar filled with activities to keep folks physically, mentally, and socially engaged, and staff are available for medical help when needed. People can relax outdoors, enjoy the nature around, or visit nearby restaurants and shops, and even though there's no long list of fancy services, many just appreciate the caring team, the family-run atmosphere, and the historic touches that make these homes feel welcoming.
