    Compassionate staff, renovated facility, peace

I'm grateful to the caring, attentive team at Dennett Manor - they made my mother's transition smooth, kept our family informed, and helped her regain mobility and confidence. The renovated, bright rooms, new therapy and dining spaces, lovely outdoor patio, and active events brought comfort, companionship, and peace of mind. Strong leadership and devoted, compassionate staff create a warm, professional place I'm very pleased with.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Dennett Rehab Center present a mixed but informative picture. Many families and residents praise the facility for compassionate, individualized caregiving, and several accounts describe successful short-term rehabilitation with noticeable mobility improvements. The facility is frequently described as welcoming and home-like; staff warmth, family-style interactions, and collaborative communication with relatives are prominent strengths. Renovations and upgrades — including a new physical therapy room, updated dining area, and an outdoor patio overlooking woods — are noted as positive enhancements to resident quality of life.

Clinical and day-to-day care receive largely favorable remarks: reviewers highlight smooth transitions from hospital to long-term care, attentive nursing when available, and staff who keep families informed during rehabilitation. At the same time, some reviewers express operational concerns about timeliness of basic assistance. Patterns include delays in bathroom help and feeding support, which translate into family anxiety about responsiveness during busy periods. These concerns are linked by reviewers to inconsistent staffing levels rather than to a single, uniform care model.

Staff behavior and communication display a contrast in accounts. Numerous reviewers describe staff as caring, professional, and dedicated, and leadership and new ownership are praised for visible commitment. Conversely, a subset of reviews describe instances of brusque customer-service interactions or staff distracted by mobile devices, indicating variability in conduct and availability. Administrative processes are another recurring theme: reviewers cite weaknesses in documentation and billing functions such as payroll/tax-form handling and address-update processing, including an instance of an adversarial exchange over missing W-2s. These are operational issues that could affect family trust and require managerial attention.

Dining and resident amenities receive mixed ratings. Some reviewers mention pleasant, renovated dining spaces and improved communal areas; others note inconsistent meal quality and the absence of certain comfort items (for example, patient recliners). Cleanliness and the overall environment are generally described as bright and tidy, though isolated sanitation or odor concerns in specific areas are mentioned, suggesting variability in environmental upkeep.

Activities and social programming are a clear positive: organized events, picnics, and outings contribute to residents’ social engagement and are appreciated by families. Overall, Dennett Rehab Center shows meaningful strengths in compassionate caregiving, rehab services, and recent capital improvements, while operational weaknesses—particularly inconsistent staffing, variability in staff conduct, and administrative/documentation gaps—emerge as the main areas for improvement. Prospective residents and families should consider visiting in person, asking targeted questions about staffing ratios, response times for toileting and feeding assistance, meal service practices, and administrative procedures for billing and tax documentation before making a placement decision.

    About Dennett Rehab Center

Dennett Rehab Center sits on Mary Drive in Oakland, Maryland, and has served the local community for more than 46 years, so people around here know it's part of the area's tradition of care and support, and you won't find a lot of fancy extras but you will find skilled nursing and rehab services that run all day and night, every day of the week. This is a privately owned skilled nursing facility with 99 certified beds, and usually about 74 residents living here each day, and they do have local caregivers who know the area and want to help neighbors hold on to as much independence as possible. The place covers a wide range, so you'll see folks here for stroke or cardiac rehab, or after orthopedic surgeries, and others needing pulmonary care, memory care, cancer recovery, or even respite and hospice help, and if you need long-term care, they do that, too. There's a 24/7 skilled nursing care team, with services that include physical, occupational, and speech therapy, not to mention on-site dental, vision, podiatry, and hearing visits, and a staff trained to develop personalized rehab and therapy plans, calling on an interdisciplinary team for each patient. Dennett offers cozy shared spaces, housekeeping, pet visits, free Wi-Fi, cable TV, room service, and lots of activities, community events, and holiday get-togethers, so there's usually something for residents to do together, although amenities aren't the flashiest.

The staff gives 3.21 nurse hours per resident daily, which is lower than Maryland's average of 3.9 hours, so things might be a bit busier than some other places, and recent inspections noted a total of 63 deficiencies including three related to infection control and three connected to abuse prevention, though there was no actual harm, just the risk for more. Dennett has had issues keeping up with proper infection prevention programs in the past and was also cited for not doing enough to prevent abuse, neglect, or exploitation, but these were rated as "potential for more than minimal harm." The ownership is profit-based, with a few direct and indirect owners, and there's not much public information on who actually runs or manages daily operations. The facility continues to offer a full set of rehab and nursing services, aiming to help residents reach their highest level of function, comfort, and dignity, doing so as affordably as possible, with a focus on keeping things local and rooted in the Oakland, Maryland, community.
