    Compassionate staff and excellent care

I'm very happy with the care my mom has received since 4/12/23. The reception and admin team (Kelly, Janice, Angela and Bertrand) are welcoming and helpful, nurses and caregivers are compassionate and professional, and PT/OT/speech therapy are outstanding. The facility is clean, homey, and busy with music, parties and activities that residents clearly enjoy; meals are very good. Communication was clear and staff consistently went above and beyond, so I felt my mom was safe and well cared for.

    Summary of reviews

Complete Care at Severna Park elicits strongly mixed assessments. Many families and patients praise the facility’s rehabilitation teams, activity staff, and numerous frontline caregivers who are described as compassionate and attentive. Reviewers frequently highlight strong PT/OT/speech therapy services, a busy activities calendar (multiple daily options and regular parties), and examples of administrators and specific staff members who engage directly with families. Several accounts note effective coordination with home-health partners, consistent family communication, and a generally home-like atmosphere in parts of the building.

At the same time, a number of reviews raise operational concerns that affect clinical safety and daily comfort. Recurrent themes include inconsistent staffing levels—particularly in the evenings and overnight—which reviewers link to delayed responses to call bells, slow assistance with toileting and hygiene needs, and longer waits for medication. Several families described serious clinical events (including medication-administration concerns and a fall that required hospitalization); these accounts point to gaps in medication controls, clinical oversight, and incident-response procedures that warrant specific inquiry during a tour or pre-admission conversation.

Cleanliness and facility maintenance emerge as another area of variability. While some areas and units are described as clean and well-kept, others generated sanitation concerns, pest-control observations, and general maintenance issues such as small or worn rooms, broken fixtures, and noisy hallways. Dining feedback is similarly mixed: the kitchen is praised by some for accommodating diets and producing good meals, while others reported cold meals and inconsistent service continuity.

Staff and management impressions are polarized. Multiple reviewers single out individual caregivers, therapists, and reception staff for praise, and some families describe highly involved, empathetic leadership. Conversely, other families described unempathetic or brusque managerial interactions, restrictive or inconsistently applied visitation policies, and admissions encounters perceived as transactional. High use of agency nurses and uneven staff continuity appear to contribute to variability in resident experience and to concerns about communication and follow-through. There are also allegations related to handling of resident belongings and instances of lost or withheld items; these are serious family concerns that should be investigated directly with facility leadership.

Safety and clinical-practice patterns deserve explicit attention from prospective residents and families. Fall-prevention practices, night staffing ratios, medication administration protocols, hydration monitoring, and call-bell response times are recurring points of contention. Conversely, the facility’s strengths—robust therapy services, an active activities program, engaged individual caregivers, and examples of responsive administration—suggest that experiences can be positive where staffing and oversight are consistent.

In summary, Complete Care at Severna Park presents a mixed profile: notable strengths in therapy, activities, and several committed staff members, alongside operational weaknesses in staffing consistency, sanitation and maintenance, medication and clinical oversight, and management communication. Prospective families should arrange a current in-person visit, ask for unit-specific staffing ratios, review medication and incident-response policies, and seek recent inspection or quality metrics to gauge whether the facility’s strong elements are reliably available for their particular level-of-care needs.
