    Spotless welcoming community, excellent amenities

I toured several places and chose this community for its spotless, well-kept, homey feel and bright, updated apartments. The staff have been professional, friendly, and helpful, activities are lively and varied, and amenities-gym, theater, pool, salon, dining, transportation, on-site laundry and balconies-are excellent. The grounds and common areas are sunny and welcoming; overall a comfortable, safe place that meets my needs.

    Summary of reviews

Village of Redford presents as a large, amenity-rich senior living community with a mix of high-rise apartments and cottages. Strengths frequently cited include clean, well-maintained common areas; a broad range of on-site amenities such as a pool, theater, exercise rooms, salon, store and library; walkable outdoor spaces with balconies and patios; and multiple apartment layouts (studio through two-bedroom, plus cottages). Many reviewers noted practical features such as concierge and housekeeping services, washer/dryer hookups in units, scheduled transportation/market trips, on-site rehabilitation services, and emergency call systems.

Care and staff interactions are described in mixed terms. Numerous accounts praise courteous, professional and attentive employees, daily safety checks, and staff who treat residents in a respectful, hotel-like manner. Those positives are balanced by repeated descriptions of inconsistent responsiveness โ€” unanswered calls or messages, an unmanned desk at times, and administrative staff who are difficult to reach. Leadership changes and reports of unwelcoming behavior by particular administrators were mentioned by multiple reviewers, creating perceptions of managerial instability that prospective families should clarify with current leadership.

Dining and activities are generally viewed as strengths but with variability. The community offers flexible dining arrangements, including around-the-clock options in some areas, low-sodium selections, and a central community kitchen with the ability to order various foods. Activity offerings include arts and crafts, bingo, movies, seasonal barbecues, birthday celebrations and outings; reviewers report these programs bring enjoyment and social engagement. At the same time, some reviewers described inconsistent meal quality, interruptions to service, and reductions in activity programming (notably after pandemic restrictions), as well as occasional lapses in resident supervision during meals.

Facilities and maintenance show a similar pattern: many areas are described as modern, bright and well-landscaped, with useful accessibility upgrades and pleasant common spaces. Conversely, several reviews described delayed repairs, uneven interior upkeep (carpet and hallway maintenance), and periodic grounds-care lapses. Prospective residents should inspect both unit and common-area condition in person, including evening or weekend visits to observe staffing and maintenance levels when managers may be less present.

Operational and administrative issues are a recurring theme. Concerns include weekend and nighttime staffing gaps, billing and move-in inconsistencies (advance rent requests, annual rent increases, and utilities not uniformly included), website/availability mismatches, and occasional problems with mail or minor property services. Safety-related concerns were also raised about emergency-response availability and response times; these are serious operational considerations and worth direct inquiry during a tour.

Bottom line: Village of Redford offers substantial amenities, a varied activity program, rehabilitation services and many features that support independent and assisted living lifestyles. However, reviewers describe notable variability in staffing consistency, management responsiveness, maintenance follow-through and dining continuity. Before making a placement decision, families should schedule an in-person visit (including an evening or weekend), review current staffing patterns and emergency protocols, confirm billing and service inclusions in writing, and inspect the specific unit being offered for size and condition.

    About Village of Redford

Village of Redford sits on about 33 acres with plenty of green space, and folks 55 and up can find independent living, assisted living, and memory care here, so there's a mix of options depending on what a person needs at the time. People can pick from one- or two-bedroom apartments in the Villas, each with a balcony or patio for some outdoor air, or they can choose a ranch-style Cottage home, many of which are on one story and some even have attached garages or carports for an extra fee, making it easy if someone still drives or just likes having the car close by. The inside of these places is made to feel like home, with kitchens in the units and bathrooms that work for different situations, and unit sizes run from a cozy 604 square feet up to about 1,987 square feet, which gives lots of room for personal things or just spreading out a bit, and the buildings also have shared spaces, so when the weather gets rough, people can still meet up and feel connected to their neighbors. There's a Service Coordinator on staff who helps residents with healthcare and arranging home care if that's needed, so no one is left on their own if something comes up health-wise, and they've got housekeeping too, if that's getting to be a bit much, plus transportation to shops so folks who don't drive can still get around the community. Activities happen all week, from crafts and card games to music and resident-led events, and there's even a fitness room and wellness programs for anyone who wants to keep active, which makes it easy to stay busy or meet new people, along with computer rooms and entertainment spots for group gatherings. Religious services run on-site if that's important, and pets are allowed with a one-time fee, so people can bring a furry friend along, and since this whole place is run by Presbyterian Villages of Michigan as a non-profit, the sense of community feels solid without all the usual flash. The rent's all-inclusive, with options for parking and guest spots, and the buildings offer cable or satellite plus wifi, so family can visit or stay connected online, and being close to the Redford Library, local golf courses, and regular shops and churches means most needs are covered without a long drive. Veterans get a Priority Move-In through a special program, and for anyone interested, tours are welcome, so folks can see for themselves what the community is like and meet some of the staff and neighbors.
