    Spacious clean home-like compassionate care

I toured this small lakeside community and left very impressed. The apartment-style rooms are spacious with kitchenettes and private baths, the building is spotless and smells pleasant, and outdoor gardening and bird-watching areas are lovely. Staff were friendly, attentive and compassionate, meals were consistently good, and there are plenty of activities, a salon, laundry service and library. Overall it felt like a warm, home-like place where residents receive individualized, high-quality care.

    Summary of reviews

Boardman Lake Glens presents as a small, home-like, lakefront senior community with apartment-style living and a focus on individualized attention. Reviewers consistently describe a clean, well-maintained interior with pleasant smells and visible caregiving staff. Units are generally spacious, configured with separate living areas, kitchenettes and private bathrooms; cottages and outdoor garden spaces are an additional option for residents who prefer more independence.

Care quality and staff interactions are strengths cited across feedback. Many families report attentive, compassionate caregivers who learn residents’ names and respond to needs; aides are described as visible and well groomed. The community supports aging-in-place transitions from independent to assisted care. That said, there are indications of occasional communication gaps between clinical and administrative staff; one noted miscommunication was reportedly resolved, but the pattern suggests an operational opportunity to strengthen handoffs and manager–nurse coordination.

Dining impressions are mixed. Numerous reviewers praised good meals, special treats, and accommodating dining staff, while others found the food did not meet particular gourmet expectations. Meal service is available three times daily with snacks and holiday offerings; however, cottage residents may have different meal arrangements and some cottages reportedly do not include meal service. Families should confirm meal coverage and menu flexibility relative to personal preferences.

Activity programming exists and includes bingo, exercise classes, art projects, a library, and other classes. The small size and resident mix contribute to a quieter atmosphere and many reviewers appreciated the community scale. Conversely, the small population can limit activity variety and peer matching, and programming was constrained at times (for example, during heightened infection-control periods). Prospective residents should verify current activity schedules and participation levels.

Facility and safety considerations are important to weigh. The lakefront setting and water-facing patios provide appealing views and outdoor seating, but also raise safety concerns for residents with cognitive impairment; families should ask about secure outdoor access, supervision, and dementia-specific safeguards. Several reviewers also described an older physical plant in need of updates; while cleanliness is consistently praised, some spaces may show age and require renovation.

Management and cost patterns are notable. The community appears to be well established and often has a waiting list; reviewers frequently described accommodating tours and staff. However, overall monthly rates and extra-care charges are described as relatively high, which may price the community out of range for some families. Prospective residents should request a full fee schedule and clear descriptions of what services are included versus billed as add-ons.

Overall, Boardman Lake Glens is characterized by a small, service-focused environment with strong caregiver engagement, spacious apartment-style units, and attractive lakefront amenities. Key decision points for families are cost and fee structure, need for dementia-specific safety measures given waterside access, the degree of renovation they expect in the physical plant, and whether the community size and resident mix match the prospective resident’s social and care needs.

    About Boardman Lake Glens

Boardman Lake Glens sits right on the quiet shore of Boardman Lake, close to town with lovely water views, lush landscaping, walking trails, and a sunroom where you can watch the lake in any season, and you've got private one- or two-bedroom apartments, even studios, all with kitchenettes, temperature controls, private bathrooms, and an emergency call system, and some pets can live with you, too. The community offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, adult day care, home health care, and rehab, with each option having its own staff and services, so folks can stay in their apartments if their needs change and couples with different needs can remain together. There's an "Age in Place" program, so residents don't have to move if they need more help later on, and the memory care program sits in its own building with features to keep things safe for people with dementia or Alzheimer's. Every apartment has its own privacy, but there are plenty of common areas like a dining room with a fireplace, lounges, activity rooms, gardens, patios, and a courtyard, so people always seem to find each other for meals or cards or to just sit and visit.

A full-time Activities Director keeps a busy calendar of events, group outings, wellness classes, and recreation, and even lets the residents pick activities they want, and residents can go for off-site trips with complimentary transportation or use the community bus, plus there's resident parking for those who drive. Mealtimes are a big gathering at Boardman Lake Glens, and they do three chef-prepared meals a day, including vegetarian choices, always aiming for both taste and nutrition, and the friendly serving and kitchen staff make it a more social time. Housekeepers handle cleaning and fresh linens, and you'll see house managers in every building, making sure things are running smoothly and people are comfortable.

Relaxation and safety sit at the heart of things, with staff available 24 hours a day-always awake-and a full-time Registered Nurse and nurse aides handling any care needs, covering everything from medication reminders to help with bathing, dressing, memory support or incontinence care, even using mechanical lifts if someone isn't able to walk. Residents get visits from outside podiatrists and therapists-physical, speech, and occupational-as needed, and medication management happens on site. Health services reach outside the main buildings, too, as trained aides give companionship or non-medical help for people still living in their own homes who might just need a little extra.

Boardman Lake Glens has its own specific names and terms for services and buildings, and a welcoming attitude toward new people or tours, and the place keeps up with current times, with Wi-Fi in common areas, handicap accessibility, and a Facebook page for updates. The community's won some awards for its services and programming, but what most people notice is how folks here know each other and stay active with choices for social times or quiet days, all while seeing the water, the trees, and the life going on right outside their windows.
