    Welcoming attentive staff and community

I've been very pleased living here - staff are welcoming, attentive and professional, the building and common areas are beautiful and well maintained, and the community feels family-like. Meals are tasty and nutritious, activities and social events are abundant, and management and office staff are supportive and responsive; I would recommend this as a great place to live.

    Summary of reviews

Hayden Grove presents a largely favorable physical and social environment: reviewers consistently describe a modern, attractive building with well‑kept common areas, comfortable studio layouts, and a range of on‑site amenities. Dining is a noted strength for many residents — meals are often described as nutritious, well‑prepared, and flexible in service — and inclusive pricing options that cover some meals and laundry are appreciated. The community atmosphere and activity program are repeatedly praised: there are frequent daily activities, social opportunities, and organized outings that contribute to a strong sense of camaraderie among residents.

Staff impressions are mixed. Many families and residents highlight welcoming front‑desk staff and several caregivers who are attentive and compassionate, and there are accounts of responsive, supportive interactions, including sensitive handling of end‑of‑life situations. At the same time, a clear pattern emerges of staffing instability: high turnover, vacancies, and difficulty recruiting enough qualified aides and clinical staff. That instability correlates with variability in care quality and training; some reviewers report well‑coordinated, caring support, while others cite inconsistent performance from newer or temporary staff.

Clinical and operational areas of concern center on responsiveness and communication. Multiple accounts describe long waits for call responses, difficulty reaching clinical staff, and gaps in timely incident communication with families. There are indications of inconsistent medication documentation and unclear handoffs between shifts. Management responsiveness to clinical concerns appears uneven: some families noted improvements after escalation, while others described ongoing difficulties and leadership changes that complicated follow‑up.

Housekeeping and facility maintenance show a split pattern. Common areas and overall building upkeep receive consistent positive remarks, and some reviewers note improvements after changes to cleaning services. Conversely, room‑level housekeeping and memory‑care cleaning are described as variable, with occasional sanitation concerns in specific areas. Dining continuity also shows variability: although food quality is generally praised, there are isolated operational problems such as missed or skipped meals caused by communication lapses.

Management and administration receive both praise and criticism. Several reviewers commend particular staff members and aspects of administration for being welcoming and efficient, but others point to unstable leadership, inconsistent communication with families, and administrative errors (including billing). These organizational issues appear to amplify the effects of staffing shortages and contribute to uneven experiences across residents.

Taken together, the pattern suggests Hayden Grove is strong on physical environment, dining, social programming, and individual caregiver compassion, while facing operational challenges tied to staffing, clinical responsiveness, housekeeping consistency, and administrative stability. Prospective residents and families may want to ask targeted questions about current staffing levels (including the presence of a director of nursing or equivalent clinical leader), average response times to call lights and emergencies, medication‑management procedures, housekeeping schedules for private and memory‑care rooms, meal‑service guarantees, and recent efforts to reduce turnover and improve communication. These specific inquiries can help clarify whether recent improvements reported by some families have been sustained and how the facility is addressing the identified operational weaknesses.

    About Hayden Grove Senior Housing

Hayden Grove Senior Housing sits at 8715 Portland Ave S in Bloomington, MN, and it has about 65 units for older adults who want different types of care in one place-they've got independent living, assisted living, memory care, and even care suites if someone needs more help. Residents can pick from studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom apartments, each with kitchenettes, private rooms, and wheelchair accessibility, and the building has age restrictions to make sure it stays quiet and comfortable for folks 55 and older, with safety features like secure entrances, handrails, and emergency call systems built right in. People use private pay, long-term care insurance, or Veterans Administration benefits to help with costs, and though rent details aren't published, the price depends on the level of care someone needs.

Hayden Grove offers help with things like bathing, dressing, and medication, and they've got a nurse on staff plus trained aides for personal care. There's short-term and respite care for those who need it and they cover basic chores like housekeeping and laundry. The staff-who are known for helpfulness and kindness-manage activities, scheduled rides around town, and meal plans, which include 10 meals per month in their dining room so residents can choose their favorite foods and times to eat.

The property features covered parking, guest parking, a fitness center, and easy access for wheelchairs and folks who need a little more room to get around. The memory care unit stays locked and safe for those who might wander, and the community includes areas set up for health monitoring and wellness programs. People can take part in games, arts and crafts, barbecues, bingo, and other activities that help folks stay social and engaged, and the community plans regular events like meet-and-greets, anniversary tours, and social programs that encourage learning, volunteering, and connection.

Hayden Grove's staff supports people living with dementia or memory issues with care that aims to reduce confusion and provide comfort, and they've got a pet-friendly environment and high-speed Wi-Fi for those who need it. Residents get to live close to parks, shopping, and libraries, making it easy to enjoy the wider neighborhood, and the whole place focuses on dignity and grace, giving people choices so they can feel at home no matter how much help they need. The Bloomington and St. Anthony-located communities have earned the Best of Senior Living Award, and even though not every service, fee, or apartment detail is listed, Hayden Grove keeps things straightforward with a wide range of support, friendly company, and common spaces where friendships can grow and daily life stays lively and safe.
