    Attentive family-style memory care community

I placed my mother here because it's nearby and the small, family-feel community suits her. Staff are attentive and caring (pod-based teams, low caregiver ratio), memory and assisted-care needs are well met, and dietary/medical options are handled professionally. Dining is excellent (restaurant-style with daily specials), rooms are comfortable, and there are plenty of activities-music, exercise, arts and outings-that keep residents active and happy.

    Summary of reviews

Care Suites of Edina presents as a small, suite-based assisted-living community with a clear emphasis on personalized, home-like care. Reviewers commonly highlight a compassionate caregiving culture, close relationships between staff and residents, and hands-on engagement from nursing and administration. Clinical competency is emphasized in several accounts—particularly in memory-care and Parkinson’s-trained staff—which supports suitability for residents with cognitive or movement-related needs. The facility offers multiple service levels and accepts Elderly Waiver funding after a private-pay period, which can support transitions in payer status.

Dining is a frequently cited strength. The community offers restaurant-style meals, daily specials, and à la carte options, with many families praising menu quality and accommodation of dietary needs (including diabetes). That said, there are operational inconsistencies: some comments note lukewarm room-service meals and uneven meal presentation. Prospective families should verify meal-service protocols and temperature/room-delivery practices during a tour.

Activity programming and social life show mixed performance. The facility operates an active calendar with exercise, outings, music, bingo, and on-site groups, and amenities such as a salon, sunroom, and movie room support social engagement. Conversely, there are recurrent notes about inconsistent encouragement to participate and limited proactive outreach to integrate new residents; this suggests programming exists but resident engagement can vary depending on staff follow-through and leadership of the activities program.

Facility environment and physical plant receive both praise and critique. Many reviewers describe clean, bright, well-decorated common areas and comfortable, private suites with conveniences such as microwaves. Others describe confined-feeling sections, dim lighting, low ceilings, and small room sizes—conditions attributed in part to remodeling and the building’s intimate scale. Sanitation and localized odor concerns appear in some comments; these are operational issues worth confirming in person, especially in common areas and during different times of day.

Management and operational consistency are mixed. Positive accounts emphasize personalized attention from nursing and administrators and a family-like culture; several families describe staff who went beyond expectations and maintained close communication. Conversely, there are reports of missed appointments, an initial tour that left families wanting more time or information, and variability in scheduling and staff responsiveness. A small number of reviews raised serious concerns about staff conduct and dignity at end of life; prospective families should ask management about policies, staff training, complaint resolution, and any corrective actions or surveys addressing these topics.

Overall, Care Suites of Edina appears to offer a compassionate, small-community model with strong clinical expertise for memory and Parkinson’s care and high-quality dining for many residents. Key due-diligence items for families include: observing meal service and room-delivery logistics, assessing natural light and suite size for individual needs, reviewing activity-staffing practices and resident-introduction routines, and asking about recent sanitation checks and staff-training records—particularly around end-of-life care and resident dignity. A focused tour that includes dining at mealtime and conversations with clinical leadership will help clarify whether the facility’s strengths align with a prospective resident’s priorities.

About Care Suites of Edina by Vivie

Care Suites of Edina by Vivie, also called Walker Methodist Care Suites, sits in Edina, MN, with only 72 apartments, which gives it a much cozier feel than large places, and really, a smaller size like this means you tend to recognize your neighbors and staff in the hallways, so it feels familiar each day. This community focuses on assisted living and memory care and staff designed it for seniors needing support with daily life or those living with dementia or other cognitive impairments, which means things like reminders for bathing, dressing, medication help, and even care for those who wander or forget, because sometimes that's how aging goes, and the building itself has secured areas and uses technology like alarms and bracelets to keep residents safe from wandering without being too obvious. Apartments come furnished, but residents can bring their own things and make the place feel like home, and weekly housekeeping and laundry, including dry cleaning, mean folks don't really need to worry about cleaning or washing clothes or linens anymore, which is a relief for many.

Care Suites of Edina offers meal services with a chef preparing meals daily, served in a comfortable dining room setting, and people have choices, even for those who need special diets for things like allergies or diabetes, and residents can have meals in their apartments too if needed. Staff here provide help with transfers, even if someone needs a lift or more than one person to assist, and residents who need complex care for chronic illnesses, insulin injections, or even behavior management can stay in the community as their needs change, which is comforting when health changes over time. For memory care, a separate building holds rooms for folks with Alzheimer's and dementia, designed to lower confusion and prevent wandering, with a high staff-to-resident ratio-usually no more than five residents for each staff member-to make sure care is personal and quick when someone needs help.

Seniors still have the chance to stay active and social with things like fitness classes, music, art workshops, group movie nights, gardening, and resident-run clubs, and staff encourage outings or host devotional and religious services both onsite and offsite, so there's always something to do besides sitting in an apartment. Nursing staff are available around the clock and can coordinate care with outside doctors, therapists, or even hospice as needed, with extra support offered through home health programs, respite care for folks recovering or whose caregivers need a break, and long- or short-term stays for those who aren't sure how long they'll need to be there. Community amenities include walking paths outside, accessible gardens, a computer room, a beauty salon, and rooms come with small kitchen appliances for personal snacks or meals, for those who like to keep their own routines. Parking and free transportation, both for errands or appointments, round out the services, so residents don't feel stuck or isolated.

Everything-care for daily needs, attention to medical changes, memory support, and a program that lets people age in place while staying safe and social-really focuses on making life as comfortable as possible, and while it's not perfect, people who value a smaller and more familiar senior community with a caring approach to both memory and assisted living might find Care Suites of Edina by Vivie fits well for their needs.
