    Very pleased with transitional care

I stayed in the Transitional Care Unit and was very pleased - the nursing and rehab teams were professional, compassionate, and helped me transition home. The campus is beautiful, spotless, and full of amenities (chapel, heated pool, fitness center, cinema, shuttle, library), and the meals were genuinely gourmet. Staff are friendly, helpful, and created a warm, family-like community; my apartment was comfortable with nice outdoor space. I would recommend this well-run place for rehab, assisted living, or long-term care.

    Summary of reviews

Saint Therese Senior Living of Oxbow Lake presents as a modern, well-appointed campus with a broad range of amenities and a clear faith-based identity. The facility is consistently described as clean, bright, and tastefully decorated; public spaces include a large chapel with frequent Mass, multiple dining venues (bistro and restaurant-style options), a heated indoor pool and wellness center, an on-site cinema, and numerous activity spaces. The campus supports a full continuum of care—independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing/transitional care—which is appealing for families seeking long-term continuity.

Care quality and staff performance are an area of notable variability. Many accounts praise compassionate, professional nurses, attentive aides, and an effective therapy team that achieves good rehabilitation outcomes and smooth transitions home. At the same time, there is a recurring pattern of chronic understaffing, high turnover, and reliance on temporary staff that correlates with service gaps. Families describe slow or inconsistent responses to call buttons and assistance requests, occasional delays in medication administration, and concerns about transfer-safety practices. These operational issues appear to be tied to staffing levels and staff training rather than the physical environment.

Dining and activities are strengths for residents who prioritize social programming and on-site amenities. Several reviewers highlighted high-quality, gourmet meals in the dining venues and an active calendar that includes movie screenings, exercise classes, religious programming, and outings via shuttle. Conversely, there are accounts of inconsistent meal quality, limited meal customization, and a cafeteria schedule that may not cover all hours; these reflect variability in culinary execution and policy rather than the absence of choices.

The facility’s physical plant and services receive consistent positive mention. Apartments and common areas are noted as clean and well-maintained, with thoughtful features such as in-unit laundry, balconies, and courtyard views. Maintenance responsiveness and security are generally described as adequate. The community’s chapel and spiritual programming are repeatedly identified as selling points for residents seeking a Catholic environment.

Management and operational oversight show mixed impressions. Positive reports describe helpful tour staff and an engaged social-work team that facilitates transitions and family communication. Negative themes include perceived lapses in management follow-through, unfulfilled staff-compensation promises, and limited after-hours front-desk access that can affect first impressions and visitor flexibility. The combination of premium pricing and limited negotiability is another consideration for prospective residents evaluating value.

Overall, Saint Therese offers a high-quality physical environment and substantial programming, and it has demonstrable strengths in rehabilitation and spiritual life. However, families should be aware of variable staffing and care-practice consistency across shifts and units. Prospective residents and their decision-makers are advised to evaluate current staffing levels, call-response times, medication-administration practices, transfer-safety protocols, and safeguards for valuables during their tour and to discuss expectations with nursing leadership and the social-work team before committing.

About Saint Therese Senior Living of Oxbow Lake

Saint Therese Senior Living of Oxbow Lake sits on a large campus with a view of gardens and walking paths running along the lake, and the place offers different levels of senior care, so you'll find independent living, assisted living, memory care for those with dementia or Alzheimer's, transitional care, long-term care, skilled nursing, hospice and home health care, and these services allow residents to remain in the same place as their needs change, which families often appreciate. The community is nonprofit and Catholic in origin, and has a long history since 1968 of focusing on faith, service, and a welcoming spirit, and while there's an on-site chapel called Our Lady of Peace with regular Catholic Mass and ecumenical services, pastoral care also provides guidance and spiritual support, so faith gets special attention here without being forced.

Rooms come as studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, and some go up to 1,800 square feet, while all the units include private bathrooms, air conditioning, kitchenettes, cable TV, furnished options, Wi-Fi, and phone lines, and the entire building has 24-hour security with secure access. Visitor suites are offered for family or friends who want to stay overnight, and building features like heated underground parking and scheduled rides help residents stay comfortable even in bad weather.

Assisted living services provide help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and getting around, and there's medication management, along with 24-hour supervision and call systems in place, plus non-ambulatory care, diabetic care, and support for those using wheelchairs. The memory care wing is built to limit confusion and wandering for those who need extra support. Home health care aids visit for companionship or non-medical care, and everyone gets access to incontinence care if needed.

Dining options include a dining room serving restaurant-style meals with different entrée choices, daily signature soups, and desserts, and there's a Bistro and a Good Day Café for more informal meals. Meals are available throughout the day, including in-room delivery for those who prefer eating in private, and staff can handle special diets like allergy concerns or diabetic needs. There are awards for the quality of meals and dining here, and people like the relaxed style of eating together.

The campus offers a wide set of features-there's a fitness center with a warm water therapy pool, a balance center with NeuroCom® systems, a business room, two libraries with computer and internet access, a movie theater, a salon and barber shop, a club room, game rooms, a spa/wellness room, an arts room, and a gift shop. Outdoors, you'll find patios for dining, common green spaces, places for quiet walks and reflection, and gardens by the lake, all designed to be open and peaceful. Social life carries on with planned activities like movie nights, arts and music programs, exercise classes, resident-run groups, and organized community events and outings, and the community runs foundation events like the Golf Classic and Tree of Lights.

The place keeps a compassionate and people-first approach, with staff who help make sure daily routines are safe and that residents have a chance to make friends, get involved, or keep to themselves if they like. Housekeeping and laundry services, concierge help, scheduled transportation to shops and restaurants, and plenty of parking round out daily life here. The facility has earned local awards for its amenities, activities program, and staff friendliness, and it's known for being clean, spacious, and flexible for people with different care needs.
