    Caring staff, beautiful home, recommended

I moved my mom in and am very pleased - the staff are consistently caring, compassionate, and genuinely go the extra mile. The community is beautiful, sunny, immaculately maintained, and feels home-like with a vibrant activities program (love the water-aerobics), outstanding dining, and responsive leadership. Move-in was seamless, memory care is supportive, and my mom is happy and social. I highly recommend Waters of Edina.

    Summary of reviews

Overview The Waters of Edina is consistently described as an upscale, modern senior living community with substantial physical and programmatic resources. Reviews highlight a bright, airy design; large, well-appointed apartments (many with full kitchens, in-unit laundry, large bathrooms, walk-in closets, and balconies); and amenities such as a saltwater pool, library, exercise equipment, and regular outings. The location near 50th & France and views of local landmarks are frequently cited as desirable. Many families characterize the environment as sunny, country-club–like, and socially engaging.

Care and staff A dominant theme is strong, compassionate frontline staff and a visible clinical presence. Multiple accounts praise aides, nurses, and leadership for supportive move-in transitions, responsiveness, and continuity when present; 24-hour on-site nursing is noted as a strength. At the same time, there are recurring concerns about staffing stability and turnover, which some reviewers link to inconsistent care continuity. Several reviews reference isolated clinical issues, including medication-administration lapses and communication gaps with families; these point to unevenness in clinical processes rather than a uniform standard of practice. Reviewer experience with staff conduct ranges from highly positive (compassionate, memorable interactions) to critical (concerns about responsiveness and conduct), indicating variability in individual interactions.

Dining Culinary leadership and special-event dining receive repeated praise; the presence of experienced chefs and specialty meals is a clear asset. However, day-to-day dining service shows inconsistency: reviewers describe variability in meal quality, occasional slow service in the dining room, and order accuracy problems. Families who prioritize consistent, timely meal service should plan for variability and ask specific questions about service protocols and accommodations (for example, gluten-free handling and mealtime alerts).

Activities and life enrichment The community offers a broad palette of programs: exercise classes, water aerobics, regular outings to stores and shows, card and movie nights, and life-enrichment programming. The aquatics program is singled out as an outstanding feature. That said, some families would like greater variety in specific areas (notably the visual arts) and more robust weekend programming. Activity quality and scheduling appear to be generally strong but uneven in specific interests and time slots.

Facilities and operations Physical facilities are a clear strength: apartments are described as spacious and accessible, public spaces are well maintained, and the pool and fitness areas receive positive comments. At the operational level, two consistent concerns emerge. First, cost: the community is positioned at the higher end of the market, with a base price that many reviewers find substantial and a range of add-on fees (storage, garage, additional-person charges, pet fees, and other upcharges) that reduce price transparency. Second, administrative consistency: reviewers cite billing confusion, charge disputes, and occasional service gaps (housekeeping inconsistency, Internet speed issues). These operational issues are recurring themes and suggest families should request detailed, written cost breakdowns and billing procedures during tours.

Memory care and special needs Reviews about memory care are mixed. Some families report a smooth transition and appropriate, supportive care; others find the memory-care offering less clearly defined or less suitable for specific needs. Space constraints in some units and questions about program fit were raised. Prospective residents with dementia-related needs should request a detailed memory-care program description, staffing ratios, and observation opportunities before committing.

Notable patterns and recommendations Two consistent patterns emerge: strong praise for staff members who are described as compassionate and effective, and recurrent operational concerns around cost transparency, staffing consistency, and service-level variability. For families evaluating this community, recommended steps include: obtaining a full, written summary of all fees and what the base price includes; asking for recent examples of staffing stability and turnover rates; touring during meal service and a sample activity; and reviewing medication-administration and billing processes. Overall, The Waters of Edina presents as a high-amenity, service-rich community that excels in physical plant and many aspects of resident life, while exhibiting operational unevenness that prospective residents and families should investigate during their decision process.

    About The Waters of Edina

The Waters of Edina sits in a quiet, wooded setting with walking paths winding around water features and evergreens, and the whole place gives off the feeling of a private country club, with big windows, fireplaces, and well-designed spaces that feel both upscale and comfortable, and folks can enjoy peace of mind since they can stay in their own apartments while their needs change over time. Residents pick from a range of living options-independent living for those who are still active and want less hassle, assisted living for people who need help with things like bathing, dressing, or medication, and memory care for those facing Alzheimer's or other memory challenges through their PETALS Memory Care program, where they keep things safe and simple and make sure no one wanders off or feels lost. The staff here get to know everyone by name and offer care that changes when needed, bringing services and help right to the apartment, and home care aides are also available for extra company or basic non-medical care for people staying at home.

Amenities include air conditioning, high-speed internet everywhere, pet-friendly apartments so you can bring your dog or cat, and wide hallways and common spaces so wheelchairs fit just fine, plus a heated saltwater therapy pool with fun classes, a clubroom for billiards, and lots of fireplaces and cozy places to sit and visit. There's a strong focus on staying active and connected, so the calendar is full of social events, education, physical activities, and programs that cover spiritual, emotional, and intellectual wellbeing, and you get chef-prepared meals in the dining areas where service is polite and attentive, and snacks or drinks are easy to find. Since Galleria Edina and Southdale Mall are just down the road, there's always something to do offsite for shopping or entertainment if you feel like it.

The community's built to let people stay as independent as possible, with nurses and aides on hand for higher levels of care-more than regular assisted living can handle-and they keep up good communication with everyone involved so families know what's happening, and nobody's left out of the loop. Seniors are encouraged to join in activities, make friends, and enjoy shared spaces or walk outdoors in the landscaped grounds whenever they want, and those who join a scheduled tour can see apartments, try the food, and check out how daily life goes.
