    Welcoming attentive care for mom

I chose Diamond Willow and would recommend it - a comfortable, welcoming small community with loving, attentive staff who truly cared for my mom. Rooms are bright with good layouts and lots of windows, there's lovely outdoor space with raised gardens and a gazebo, meals are cooked on-site and smell delicious, and engaging activities keep residents involved.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Feedback paints Diamond Willow as a small, community-oriented assisted living with a warm, home-like atmosphere and several features that families value. Many accounts highlight compassionate, attentive staff and clear family communication as consistent strengths, and the property’s outdoor amenities and bright rooms contribute positively to the environment. For families touring multiple options, Diamond Willow was frequently chosen as the preferred facility.

Care and staff: Staff interactions are described as caring and personally attentive; families highlighted staff members who provided emotional support and consistent communication. At the same time, there are operational concerns that affect perceived care continuity. In particular, nighttime staffing levels were identified as insufficient, and that shortfall appears linked to variability in care responsiveness across shifts. These staffing and scheduling factors are the principal operational weaknesses raised in the feedback.

Dementia care and programming: The memory-care component is an area of mixed feedback. Reviewers praised general caregiver compassion but also noted gaps in dementia-care specialization and limited variety in memory-focused programming. Prospective residents and families seeking robust, specialized dementia services should evaluate the memory-care schedule and therapeutic offerings directly and ask about staff training and program plans.

Dining and activities: Dining is generally regarded positively—meals are described as appetizing and pleasant-smelling, and some residents have opportunities to prepare their own food. However, there is some inconsistency in dining quality, with a few remarks characterizing food as merely acceptable. Activity programming (bingo and other social events) contributes to an inviting, fun environment; expanding variety in the memory-care activity roster was identified as a potential improvement area.

Facilities and management: Physical features such as raised gardens, a gazebo, and rooms with ample windows support a comfortable setting. Room sizes and layouts are generally good, though some units are smaller than others, so unit selection can affect living-space expectations. Management strengths include family communication and a personable staff culture; priorities for management attention are staffing allocation (particularly overnight) and development of dementia-care programming to reduce variability in resident experience. Overall, Diamond Willow appears well suited to residents seeking a small, engaged community with attentive caregivers, while families with advanced memory-care needs should inquire specifically about specialized programming and nighttime staffing arrangements.

About Diamond Willow Assisted Living & Memory Care

Diamond Willow Assisted Living & Memory Care is a senior living community with locations across Minnesota, including a site in Little Falls called Diamond Willow Little Falls 1, where the building sits close to the banks of the Mississippi River and near historical places and natural surroundings, which means residents can enjoy outdoor recreation or take in local sights around town, and it seems like every location-whether in towns like Cloquet, Proctor, Park Rapids, Mountain Iron, Duluth, Grand Rapids, or Detroit Lakes-sits near lakes, woods, or other peaceful areas that make it feel homey and familiar, as these places always have a warm small-town feel and accessible outdoor spaces.

They offer both assisted living and memory care, along with respite care for those needing a short stay, and they focus on supporting residents who need help with daily activities or have memory challenges like Alzheimer's or other dementias, which means memory care here comes with extra safety features to reduce confusion and prevent wandering; staff are available all day and night, and there's a 24-hour call system for emergencies, which keeps things secure. The rooms are studio layouts, furnished, and come with features like telephones, good lighting, and nice views, and some have unique names like Eagle Pine Suites, Mississippi Suites, and Lester River Suites, which makes it easy to remember and gives a personal touch to each space, and folks say the community layout and room sizes work well for getting around and feeling comfortable.

The assisted living services cover medication management, bathing, dressing, and help with moving about, which means people can keep their independence while getting support when they need it, and care is personalized for each resident through work done by on-site directors and dedicated staff. For those needing memory care, they've got a program that's designed to engage people physically, emotionally, and socially, with daily activities tailored to keep everyone as active and connected as possible, and all this happens in spaces planned for safety and security.

Amenities are what you might expect in a modern assisted living and memory care place, because there are indoor common areas, furnished rooms, a dining room where chefs and meal planners put together nutritious meals-including options for special diets-transportation and parking, an emergency alert system, and full housekeeping and laundry services to keep things tidy. Outside, there are raised gardens, a gazebo, walking paths, and garden areas so people can enjoy time in the fresh air, while inside you'll find an arts room, a barber and salon, and spots for devotional services and community-supported activities like movie nights and resident-led gatherings.

Diamond Willow Assisted Living & Memory Care holds an average community rating of 8.5 out of 10 from reviews, and while specific amenities might differ from site to site, every location aims to provide a home-like, safe, and supportive atmosphere. They make it easy to schedule tours, ask about room availability, and get up-to-date pricing, and the main office runs weekdays from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. The facility is part of a larger network managed by A Place for Mom and offers a range of healthcare services, including incontinence care, diabetic care, help for non-ambulatory residents, and coordination with outside healthcare providers, which adds to the peace of mind for families and residents alike.
