    Home-like community with caring staff

I'm part of the Highland family and very happy with the excellent care, friendly and genuinely caring staff, and strong memory-care support. The home-like, very clean apartments and attractive common areas (cozy fireplace, inviting coffee shop, courtyard), wonderful meals, and varied activities make this an amazing community. Special thanks to Danielle Deb - her hair styling has a special place in my heart - and to Hannah and the team for being attentive and responsive.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive. Reviewers consistently describe Highland Senior Living as a clean, attractive, and home-like community with a mansion-like exterior and well-appointed common areas. The facility receives repeated praise for its cozy touches — a fireplace, an inviting on-site coffee shop, a private dining room, and a bay window in rooms — which contribute to a warm, residential feel rather than an institutional one. Multiple respondents emphasize that Highland feels like a family; residents and relatives use phrases such as "Highland family," "special place in my heart," and "life spark facility," indicating a high level of emotional satisfaction and community attachment.

Care quality and staff performance are standout themes. Reviewers describe the staff as dedicated, friendly, and responsive. Several names are mentioned positively (Director Hannah for spending time with a resident's father, Danielle for excellent care, and Deb for hair styling), which suggests staff approachability and continuity. Nurses and caregivers are noted as caring and treating residents like family. The facility is credited with providing excellent everyday care and meals, and some residents require only minimal assistance, indicating that Highland successfully serves relatively independent seniors as well as those needing more support.

Facilities, layout, and housing options are repeatedly highlighted as strengths. Many reviews note spacious private rooms and dementia-friendly layouts that make navigation easier for residents with memory issues. The compact, easy-to-navigate floor plans are viewed as an advantage for shortening walking distances and reducing confusion for residents with mobility or cognitive limitations. There are also useful amenities such as a courtyard for outdoor movement and a visitor apartment for short stays. At the same time, reviewers report a range of apartment sizes: while many rooms are described as spacious, some one-bedroom units and living areas are smaller than preferred by certain families, making room size an important factor to verify on a tour.

Dining and activities receive uniformly positive comments. Meals are repeatedly called excellent and wonderful, and dining facilities (including a private dining room) are attractive. Activity programming is varied and active: films, church services, live musicians, physical exercise programs, and other life-enrichment offerings were all mentioned. Additionally, the community coordinates daily health-related touchpoints such as home health check-ins, and there is explicit memory care availability, which positions Highland as capable of meeting a range of needs from independent living to more supportive memory care.

The main concerns raised are logistical and financial rather than about care quality. Some families find the facility relatively expensive — noting costs are comparable to other facilities — and the location is described as far from the city, which can make frequent visits difficult. Practical limitations mentioned include lack of enclosed garages and kitchenettes that have a full-size fridge but no stove or microwave; these are important details for potential residents who expect to do their own cooking. Also, while compact layouts are beneficial for residents with dementia, a few reviewers felt certain apartments had smaller-than-desired living rooms and kitchens, so prospective residents should confirm unit dimensions and layout during a tour.

In summary, Highland Senior Living is portrayed as a small, well-run, and affectionate community with strong staff commitment, excellent meals, clean and attractive facilities, and effective programming for both general and memory care residents. The most significant trade-offs to weigh are cost, distance from the city, and variation in apartment sizes and cooking amenities. For families prioritizing warmth, personalized care, dementia-friendly design, and a close-knit community, Highland appears to be a very strong option — prospective residents should tour the specific apartment types they are considering and confirm parking/garage arrangements given the lack of enclosed garages and the facility's more remote location.

    About Highland Senior Living

Highland Senior Living is a continuing care retirement community that lets seniors pick independent living, assisted living, memory care, nursing home, and skilled nursing services all in one place, which means folks don't need to move far when they need more care. The place has 1- or 2-bedroom apartments with full kitchens, in-suite laundry, all utilities except landline, controlled heating and air, and some apartments have private balconies, with every unit including custom blinds and an emergency call system. Available help covers housekeeping, laundry, dining services, move-in coordination, and an emergency alert system, which means daily chores aren't a worry and meals are always ready in the dedicated dining room. The staff stay on-site day and night, handling wellness checks, medication, bathing, dressing, transfers, and different levels of daily care, including special support for memory issues, mild cognitive problems, dementia, hospice, or end-of-life needs.

Highland has memory care spaces set up to prevent wandering and make life easier for folks with dementia, with added supervision and secure doors for safety, plus staff ready to step in when someone needs help. Social and community life is active here, with a calendar full of movie nights, arts and crafts, group activities, events, fitness programs, and spiritual gatherings, plus a barber and salon (for a fee), a Whirlpool Spa, fitness center, chapel, library, temperature-controlled garage, and community rooms for folks to meet up and visit. Seniors can go outside to garden, use the walking paths, and bring their pets, which means the grounds stay lively. There's transportation and parking for getting out and about, and home care by trained aides for those who want to stay in their rooms or apartments as they age. The staff have a reputation for being kind, helpful, and joyful, making the place welcoming for new and current residents.

Residents can pick from several meal plans, join wellness and educational activities, or take part in spiritual life, and can come and go or spend time in community areas without worrying about chores, as the staff help with those. Safety remains important with a 24-hour call system, regular checks, and supervised care, so families don't have to worry about emergencies or confusion. Highland Senior Living also stays connected with families and the community through its Facebook page and other online options, keeping everyone up to date on what's happening around the community. All of these options let seniors find the type of care or independence that suits them, with a straightforward focus on comfort, safety, and community without fuss or pressure.
