    Warm, attentive dementia care community

I moved my mom here and we've had a very positive experience. The small, homey cottages with lovely wooded patios and raised gardens, dementia-focused memory care, on-site nurse/24-hour support, and a caring, attentive staff made the transition smooth. Clean rooms, great food, lots of engaging activities, and an accessible leadership team give me confidence-I would recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

New Perspective Mahtomedi is described consistently as a small, cottage-style assisted living and memory-care provider with a home-like atmosphere. Families emphasize a welcoming communal design—open dining areas, a kitchen with a fireplace, sun and screened porches, raised garden beds and walking paths—that supports social interaction and outdoor access. The property’s single-level cottages and secure fenced yards are noted as appropriate for residents with memory needs, and room sizes with large windows are described as comfortable and well-lit.

Clinical and day-to-day care is presented as a strength in many accounts. Reviewers highlight an in-house/on-site nurse, coordinated therapy support, staff trained in memory care, and personalized “aging in place” approaches. Staff are repeatedly characterized as caring, attentive, and engaged; leadership is described as accessible and helpful during move-in and ongoing coordination. Several families reported smooth transitions into residence and indicated that staff make residents feel secure and loved.

Dining and activities receive generally positive descriptions. Meals are called high-quality and healthful, and the open kitchen/dining layout and congregate dining are described as pleasant and social. Activity programming appears structured with a clear schedule, frequent crafts and events, and family-involved occasions. Outdoor gardening and courtyard spaces are frequently noted as valuable for engagement and mobility.

Despite these strengths, recurring operational themes surface. Communication with families and the level/detail of progress reporting is uneven; a number of families expressed a desire for more consistent updates. Personal-care scheduling has been inconsistent at times—examples cited include bathing frequency—indicating potential gaps in routine care delivery. There are also intermittent service delays (for example, laundry), and some reviewers perceive a learning curve or variability in staff experience and operational maturity. Some families mentioned activity limitations during infection-control periods, and the facility’s small size, while a comfort for many, also limits capacity and may affect availability.

Cost and transparency were also flagged. Several comments characterize pricing as on the higher side, and one thread noted limited public detail about amenities, meal plans, and other service specifics. Finally, while staffing ratios are generally viewed positively, a few families would prefer higher overnight and daytime staffing levels; this reflects differing expectations about ideal coverage.

Overall, New Perspective Mahtomedi is portrayed as a compassionate, clinically supported small community that emphasizes a home-like environment and dementia-focused care. Prospective residents and families looking for that model are likely to find strengths in staff engagement, on-site clinical support, dining, and outdoor amenities. Families considering placement should prioritize clarifying communication practices, bathing and personal-care schedules, laundry/service timelines, exact staffing ratios for days/nights, and cost/contract details during a tour to ensure alignment with their expectations.

    About New Perspective Mahtomedi

New Perspective Mahtomedi sits in a peaceful spot in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, and has a friendly, village-like feel with cottage-style buildings, landscaped grounds, and secured gardens, so residents who want a quiet and safe place to live can enjoy their time with less worry. The community offers independent living, assisted living, home care, adult day services, short-term respite care, skilled nursing, memory care, and hospice care, so people can get just about any support they need and move through care levels without moving out. Memory Care communities here focus on dignity, connection, and joy, and the cottage-style spaces especially help those living with Alzheimer's or dementia feel at home and less confused. Residents can bring pets, so it's possible to keep that companionship as part of daily life, and meals are home-cooked every day, trying to fit different tastes and nutrition needs.

The staff offer help anytime, day or night, with nurses available 24/7 either on-site or on call, and they help with daily tasks-such as bathing, showering, dressing, laundry, and medication-so people don't have to worry about the basics. Occupational and physical therapy come in through local partners, and on-site healthcare partnerships mean check-ups and screenings can get done without residents leaving the community. There's a library, a general store, computer and internet access, community spaces for meals and socializing, and a calendar full of activities-gardening, happy hour, card games, music, and art, among others-so people have plenty of ways to keep busy and meet others.

The grounds are kept beautiful, and secured gardens and courtyards give a safe spot to sit outside, while personalized assistance with activities of daily living makes sure needs are met. Housekeeping and laundry services take some burdens off, and fresh meals are served daily with chef-created recipes. Transportation is available for outings, and Medicaid is accepted. The community works to help everyone keep their dignity and stay connected, with an environment that fits both active adults and those needing more care, including those with memory challenges, in various sized studio rooms. Each piece of support is meant to keep residents safe, comfortable, and as independent as they're able to be.
