    Homey facility with excellent care

I've been pleased with this small, homey facility - memory care on the first floor and assisted living on the second - secure, clean, bright, with spacious rooms and ample windows. The nursing system is strong (doctor on staff, RN), the house manager and coordinator are terrific, caregivers are supportive, and housekeeping and the regular cook do an excellent job; grounds are well kept. Activities are engaging and expanding beyond bingo (fun events like rubber ducky day), the dining room and menu are nice, pricing is all-inclusive and good value - I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

White Bear Lake Coh Care is a small, residential-style facility with a secured memory-care neighborhood on the main floor and assisted living above. Many comments highlight a home-like atmosphere: spacious rooms with separate living areas, ample windows and views, a clean interior, and well-maintained grounds. Families also cite practical strengths such as an attentive house manager and care coordinator, on-site nursing resources including an RN and physician access, and availability of end-of-life support.

Clinical care observations are mixed but show important positives. Several accounts indicate an organized nursing system and improved caregiver training and retention since an ownership transition, which has increased continuity of care for some residents. At the same time, other notes point to variability in staff responsiveness and conduct; this suggests that while clinical leadership and training exist, day-to-day consistency can fluctuate depending on staffing levels and shift coverage.

Dining and housekeeping present a split picture. Housekeeping and sanitation are generally described positively, and the dining room and regular cook receive favorable comments from some families. However, there are recurring concerns about inconsistent meal quality and weekend kitchen coverage; a consistent theme is variability in food taste and service depending on who is working. This indicates operational gaps in kitchen staffing and meal-service continuity that can affect resident satisfaction.

Activities programming appears to be developing: reviewers mention an activities director and events that go beyond traditional bingo, including themed and recreational offerings. Some families report a lively activity calendar, while others find the program less robust. The small facility size supports close-knit, homey programming but can also limit the breadth and frequency of activities compared with larger communities.

Management and admissions impressions are generally positive around certain staff members (house manager, coordinator) and the facility’s value proposition, particularly for residents using county waivers. Nevertheless, impressions at tour and admissions vary — with some visitors describing an unenthusiastic or uneven tour experience — which may reflect inconsistent front-line customer interactions. Overall, the facility’s strengths are its residential scale, secure memory-care environment, cleanliness, and growing clinical consistency; its principal operational weaknesses are variability in dining quality, staffing consistency, activity frequency, and occasional communication/tour presentation issues. Prospective residents and families should tour multiple times, ask about weekend staffing and kitchen coverage, and verify current activity schedules and staffing stability before making placement decisions.

About White Bear Lake Coh Care

White Bear Lake Coh Care sits at 1235 Gun Club Road in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and offers both assisted living and memory care for up to 44 residents in a setting made for seniors, with rooms that can be private or shared and common areas for dining, activities, and relaxing outdoors, and you'll find that they've got things like walking paths, a garden, a beauty salon and barber shop, and a community arts room to help folks stay active and social. This place has a real focus on caring for people with memory loss, from mild impairment to more serious dementia or Alzheimer's, and even has a dedicated men's memory care program along with staff on-site around the clock, who help with daily needs like dressing, bathing, medication management, and just watching out for everyone's safety and well-being, plus there's a 24-hour call system if anyone needs immediate help. Residents get meals in the dining room, with choices for people who need special diets, such as for diabetes or allergies, and there are regular housekeeping and laundry services, and the staff help arrange transportation for medical appointments and offer rides to local services when needed, which can be a real relief for families. Folks here enjoy daily activities, movie nights, spiritual services both on and off site, gardening, and plenty of chances for socializing, and for those needing medical support, nursing care or hospice or dementia waivers, and organized coordination with healthcare providers make things easier. White Bear Lake Coh Care keeps things secure and comfortable, with features for wheelchairs and walkers, emergency alert systems, and fully furnished rooms with Wi-Fi and cable TV, and the trained staff respond with respect and understanding, working to help everyone feel they belong and can keep their independence as much as possible while having help close by, and above all, they seem to aim for a calm, steady environment where people's dignity and health matter. The facility is licensed for assisted living and memory care, and has specialized programming to help seniors with both their physical and mental needs, using approaches like therapy pools and personalized care plans, and there's support for long and short-term stays, so whether someone needs just a bit of support or a steady home for the long run, they try to offer a steady hand and clear routines. White Bear Lake Coh Care also provides some laboratory and home health services, being listed as a home health agency and a clinical laboratory, and they're recognized for their thorough lab directory and contact system for medical labs, which supports advanced care and medical testing as part of senior care, and while they're not listed as Medicare-certified so payment has to be checked, they are fully licensed by local and state authorities in Minnesota, and regularly coordinate care in English and other languages as needed. The community works to include everyone, supports spiritual needs, celebrates small joys with community gardens and shared events, and keeps the focus on giving seniors a place where care, comfort, and peace of mind are part of daily living.
