    Attentive, compassionate staff; clean facility

I'm very pleased with Myrtle's Nursing Center - the staff are friendly, helpful, and treat residents like family; nurses like Emma and Ms. Diane Johnson were attentive and CNAs compassionate. The facility is clean and well-kept, activities and PT have helped my loved one, communication from management is proactive, and my brother loves it there; I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression Myrtles Nursing Center presents as a facility with strong emphasis on hands-on caregiving, rehabilitation, and family communication. Across the reviews there is consistent praise for the kindness and attentiveness of CNAs and other direct-care staff, a clearly engaged therapy program that demonstrably improved strength for some residents, and a range of recreational activities that residents enjoy. Facility cleanliness and a secure, orderly environment are commonly noted as strengths.

Care and staffing Direct-care interactions are the facility's most frequently cited asset: staff are described as compassionate, respectful, and willing to assist with personal needs. Therapy services (physical therapy and related programs) are viewed positively for producing measurable improvements. However, reviewers also raised operational concerns around nursing coverage and clinical oversight. Comments point to inconsistent staffing levels and instances where nursing performance or medication handling prompted questions. These suggest the facility may experience periodic gaps in nursing availability or process consistency that can affect timely clinical response and medication administration.

Dining and clinical support Families described the facility as accommodating with respect to special diets and texture-modified meals (for example, pureed diets), and feeding assistance is noted when needed. At the same time, there are comments about variable food quality and a perception that dining could be improved. Medication management and specific nurse-related issues were raised in multiple summaries; these are described as operational concerns rather than single isolated events, indicating an area of clinical risk to monitor when evaluating placement.

Activities and social environment Activity programming is a positive feature: staff-organized events (simple recreational activities, seasonal treats, group socializing) were appreciated and provided social stimulation for residents. Roommate companionship and staff efforts to make residents feel like family contribute to a generally warm social atmosphere.

Facilities and cleanliness The facility is repeatedly described as clean, well-kept, and secure, with helpful admissions orientation and clear directions for visitors. A minority of comments note occasional odor concerns in some areas and that some surfaces may not always have a polished appearance; these should be interpreted as localized sanitation or housekeeping issues rather than pervasive unsanitary conditions, but they warrant attention.

Management and communication Management and administrative staff receive positive mention for proactive family communication, calming intervention during transitions, and responsiveness to questions and concerns. Several reviewers expressed confidence in the administration's willingness to engage families and address issues, which is an important counterbalance to the operational concerns noted above.

Notable patterns and guidance for prospective families The dominant themes are strong interpersonal care, effective therapy, and generally good housekeeping, paired with operational challenges centered on nursing staffing and medication-management consistency. Prospective residents and families who prioritize compassionate CNAs, active programming, and an attentive admissions process may find this facility a good fit. Families should ask targeted questions about current nurse staffing levels, medication administration protocols, and dining menus/quality during a tour to assess whether recent operational improvements address the concerns noted in reviews.

    About Myrtles Nursing Center LLC

The Myrtles Nursing Center LLC sits at 1018 Alberta Avenue in Columbia, Mississippi, with a certified capacity of 98 beds and an average daily census of about 90 residents, and Regional Care LLC, David Flippin, and Tracy Beebe manage the facility, with an affiliation with the Beebe Family going back several years now, and what you find here is a senior care center that covers a range of needs like short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing, wound care, long-term care, memory care for Alzheimer's and dementia, as well as palliative and hospice care, and they also provide medication management for those who need extra help with daily prescriptions, and their rehabilitation programs use physical, occupational, and speech therapy whether someone's recovering from surgery, illness, or something like a fall, and they have a homelike setting with comfortable rooms, outdoor relaxation spots, and a schedule of activities for the residents, aiming to support wellness in body, mind, and spirit.

Now, you do need to know the facility's had some trouble with inspections, getting 17 total deficiencies, including 3 related to infection control, and there were issues with how they assess residents and keep up the care planning paperwork, sometimes missing full assessments on new admissions, overlooking the need to update assessments periodically, and not always sending assessment data to the state in the seven-day window, which is a requirement, and there have also been problems setting up and consistently running proper infection prevention programs, which is important, especially with vulnerable residents.

Nurse turnover at Myrtles Nursing Center LLC has run higher than the Mississippi average, with about 68% of nurses leaving compared to 46% across other facilities in the state, and public records don't currently confirm exactly how many nurse hours per resident folks get each day, so that's something to keep in mind, and the facility remains licensed and keeps up membership in the Mississippi Health Care Association.

Residents here get services tailored to their needs, whether it's assisted living, independent living, dementia support in the memory care units, or just some time to recover after a hospital stay before heading home, and they've got specialized programs for geriatric and continuing care retirement community residents, and they try to create a supportive environment, focusing on social engagement, opportunities for friendships, and offering a mix of wellness activities.

Their staff helps guide people through admission and care planning, and they say they use enhanced barrier precautions to maintain safety, especially when it comes to infection prevention, but it's worth looking at the recent CMS inspection reports to get a sense of the compliance history, because those reports reflect a facility's strengths and areas where more effort's needed, and the center operates under a rehabilitation and skilled nursing care model, so you'll see a lot of services for those who need help recovering or extra daily care.

The Myrtles Nursing Center LLC tries to foster a community atmosphere, providing amenities and programs that help residents stay as healthy and engaged as possible, though the number and the kinds of amenities can change, and anyone interested can send an information request before deciding, and you'll find that the facility focuses on creating a sense of comfort, safety, and dignity for seniors from all walks of life.
