    Very happy with mother's care

I'm very happy with my mother's placement here. She enjoys the social opportunities-religious services, games and music-and the three meals a day with choices. Staff are friendly, caring and communicative; I feel totally comfortable with her care. I highly recommend this wonderful place.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews for Ashbury Heights are strongly mixed, with a clear split between families who describe a comfortable, socially active environment and those who raise serious operational and safety concerns. Positive comments emphasize a homelike atmosphere, friendly and helpful individual staff, an administrator who was perceived as effective, three meals with choices, and a varied activities program that includes religious services, music, and games. Several reviewers said their family members enjoy social opportunities and feel comfortable in the community.

On the other hand, a number of reviews identify persistent operational problems that affect care consistency. The most frequently cited issue is staffing: reviewers describe insufficient staffing levels, scheduled staff shortages, and occasions when residents were left unattended or staff appeared to be asleep while on duty. These staffing problems are associated with delays in responding to resident needs and with missed or disorganized scheduling of appointments and therapies. Reviewers also flagged medication-management vulnerabilities, including confusion over medications and allegations of medication theft, and noted inconsistent clinical documentation and concerns about the accuracy or transparency of nursing notes.

Descriptions of staff are mixed. Many families praised individual caregivers as compassionate and communicative, and some noted improving staff communication overall. At the same time, reviewers expressed concerns about staff conduct and about the facility's hiring and background-screening practices; one concern included rehiring of staff with prior criminal charges. Frequent administrative turnover was also noted, which some families felt contributed to inconsistent policies and variable follow-through on complaints or requests.

Dining and activities are likewise variable. Several reviewers appreciated the daily meals with choices and a robust activities calendar that supports social engagement. Contrasting accounts describe inconsistent meal quality and occasional shortages or poorly prepared meals. Prospective families should verify meal-service routines and observe dining during different times of day.

Facility and operational issues reported include dim or poorly lit common areas and a generally disorganized approach to scheduling and resident coordination. These operational weaknesses appear tied to staffing and management stability; when leadership is present and communicative some families reported better experiences.

Recommendation: Ashbury Heights provides elements that many families value — a social community, regular programming, and individual staff members who are compassionate — but the facility also exhibits recurring operational risks related to staffing, medication controls, documentation, and management turnover. Prospective residents and families should conduct targeted due diligence: tour the community at varied times, ask for current staffing ratios and medication-safety policies, review hiring/background-screening procedures, observe meal service and activities, and request examples of care-plan communication and clinical documentation practices before making a placement decision.

    About Ashbury Heights

Ashbury Heights sits tucked away in a peaceful spot with lots of trees nearby and even some lakes in the area, so folks can enjoy a bit of nature right outside, and the place keeps things small with room for only 12 people, making it feel quiet and home-like with private or shared suites, furnished if needed, and even private bathrooms in every room so no one has to worry about sharing when they don't want to. Everyone who lives at Ashbury Heights gets help that fits what they need, with trained staff and a live-in administrator always around, day and night, to help with moving from bed to chair, managing medicines, or calling the doctor when needed, and there's also care for bathing, dressing, preparing meals, and housekeeping or laundry, which means everyday chores don't pile up. People who need help during the day, but not overnight, can use their Adult Day Watch service, while others can settle in for longer stays, and some might just need a break through respite or hospice care, which Ashbury Heights also provides. For those with special medical needs like diabetes or incontinence, the caregivers and certified medication staff stay close by, plus the place works with outside nurses and therapists who visit for things like foot care, physical therapy, or speech therapy, and family can rest a little easier knowing the staff keeps track round-the-clock and uses emergency call systems and safety features like step-in showers in every suite. Folks gather in shared dining rooms for scheduled meals, all cooked on site with allergy and diabetes-friendly options, and folks are welcome to join in movie nights, group activities, or spend time outdoors in the garden or on the walking paths, so there's always something social to do for those who want it, while quieter folks can take it easy in the indoor or outdoor common spaces. Ashbury Heights also runs devotional services both indoors and outdoors and helps everyone get out into the community with transportation arrangements for an extra fee or with parking for those who drive, and being close to buslines means it's easy to get to nearby attractions. The staff sets up care plans for each resident so they get just the right support-light, medium, or heavy care-as needed, and Ashbury Heights keeps things simple with everything mostly included, from meals to laundry, which helps older adults stay as independent as possible while having help close by, and those on Missouri's Medicaid program might find it fits their budget. Everyone needs to be at least 55 years old to live at Ashbury Heights, and in the end, with all the support and chances to make friends, the community tries to give every resident both comfort and freedom in a safe spot.
