    Caring staff, excellent medical care

I moved my mother here and have been very pleased - the staff are caring and attentive, medical and therapy teams are excellent, and the facility is spotless with beautifully kept grounds. Meals are restaurant-quality with good variety, laundry and maintenance are prompt, and there are plentiful daily activities, entertainment and mood-boosting animal visits; overall a very positive, reassuring experience and one I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews indicate a facility with several clear strengths alongside recurrent operational concerns. Positive themes include a generally clean, bright campus and well-maintained grounds; many families praise the dining experience, citing restaurant-style meals and appealing desserts. Therapy and rehabilitation services receive favorable comments, and the facility’s hospice partnership and pandemic-era family communication were noted as strong points. Staff members — particularly CNAs, therapists, and some nurses — are frequently described as kind, engaging, and instrumental in residents’ day-to-day well-being. Activities are varied and include exercise, crafts, bingo, church services, musical entertainment, and occasional animal visits.

At the same time, a number of reviews describe clinically significant inconsistencies in care delivery. Concerns center on delayed nursing responses, inconsistent personal-care practices (including incontinence-related care), and medication-management problems that have, in some accounts, contributed to hospital readmission or other adverse outcomes. There are also a few allegations of serious incidents and concerns following a resident’s death; these appear to be individual but serious enough that prospective families should inquire directly about clinical oversight, incident investigation, and reporting procedures.

Staffing and supervision emerge as a recurring operational theme. Many reviewers describe staff as compassionate but overwhelmed, and several point to short staffing or staffing levels that do not match resident acuity. Related issues include variability in staff professionalism and communication tone, and reports that management does not always follow through to family satisfaction. These patterns suggest inconsistent leadership follow-up and gaps in accountability for some families.

The facility’s amenities and operations present a mixed picture. Common areas, dining rooms, and grounds are often praised as attractive and well kept, and maintenance and individualized laundry service receive positive mentions. Conversely, some residents live in small or older rooms and certain rehab areas lack privacy. Food service is generally praised, but there are intermittent comments about food running out or inconsistent meal service. Cost is another clear consideration: many families describe the care as expensive and stress affordability when weighing placement decisions.

In sum, Delmar Gardens South offers strong aspects that may suit residents seeking a pleasant environment, active programming, and robust therapy services, but the facility exhibits variability in clinical consistency, staffing, and management responsiveness. Prospective residents and families should prioritize inquiries about nursing staffing ratios, medication-management protocols, incontinence and personal-care procedures, private-room availability, insurance acceptance, and the facility’s process for addressing clinical complaints and serious incidents when making placement decisions.

    About Delmar Gardens South

Delmar Gardens South sits in Sunset Hills, Missouri, and is a skilled nursing facility, the kind where folks can get help with long-term care, memory care, rehab services, and independent or assisted living, so you'll find all sorts of support levels here, but right now the place isn't taking new patients. The building keeps things secure, which is especially important for memory care, and there's a protective wander alert system for folks with Alzheimer's or other cognitive concerns, plus grab bars and clear floor plans for safety, and the staff stays alert 24/7 to help with things like insulin doses and two-person transfers when needed. Most rooms come private or semi-private, and the whole setup looks to create a safe, cozy feeling, with lots of daily social and recreational activities-exercise, memory games, arts and crafts, music therapy, pet therapy, and even intergenerational programs with kids from the on-site early childhood center, and you'll see people chatting in the reading rooms or taking part in workshops and creative events around the community spaces. The dining rooms lean on home-style, nutritious meals, and the kitchen can handle special food needs for anyone with diabetes or other health issues, and you get three meals a day along with snacks, all made by a skilled team. There's a strong medical focus here, with a range of nurses, CNAs, and therapists on staff, and care planning usually happens with both doctors and families involved, and wound care, palliative and hospice services, pharmacy, and Ready-Set-Go Home programs are available for folks returning to living independently. The gym for therapy sessions is state-of-the-art by most standards, and there's also a beauty shop, movie areas, group games, transportation for doctor's visits or shopping, valet parking, and outdoor spaces for folks who'd like a little fresh air. Pets are allowed, so residents can bring their dogs and cats, and people can visit easily thanks to open door visiting. Housekeeping keeps up with linens and basic chores, and maintenance fixes things like appliances and yards. You'll see activities planned for almost every day-movie nights, music, spiritual services, creative art classes, social games, and there's extra attention for people living with memory problems, with Serenity Suites in the memory care unit and extra staff support. Families can expect a warm, caring environment, and administration, led by Jeanna Woods, aims to treat folks like family. Resident and family reviews give Delmar Gardens South an average score of 3.4 out of 5, and while the list of amenities and specialties isn't fully detailed, the general reputation seems steady, with people noting both helpful staff and areas for improvement. The facility accepts a range of payment options for memory care, including private pay and long-term care insurance. There's valet parking, indoor and outdoor spaces for recreation, and even things like workshops and continuing education, so the place keeps busy and looks after both residents and staff.
