    Compassionate responsive excellent rehab care

I moved my father here and have been very pleased. The staff are wonderful, compassionate and responsive-Mary in particular stood out for her kindness and knowledge. PT/OT and rehab care have been excellent, with in-home options and very supportive therapists; nurses are attentive and meds are on time. The facility is clean, comfortable and well-run, with good meals, plenty of activities and clear communication throughout.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a polarized picture of Hillcrest Health & Rehab: several accounts describe high-quality rehabilitation, attentive therapists, and a well-appointed facility with an on-site chef and attractive common spaces, while other accounts identify recurring operational shortcomings that affect daily care. Strengths cluster around therapy services (PT/OT), individual staff members who demonstrate compassion and skill, and portions of the campus that are modern, comfortable, and secure. Families who encountered these strengths reported good interdisciplinary teamwork, engaging memory-unit activities, and meals that felt personalized rather than mass-produced.

However, a consistent pattern across reviews points to staffing and operational reliability issues. Many descriptions indicate inconsistent staffing levels, long wait times for assistance, and slow responses to call bells. Those staffing gaps appear linked to several downstream problems: missed or delayed medication administration (including insulin and pain medications), limited assistance with bathing and repositioning, and delays in addressing continence-care needs. Reviewers also described lapses in documentation and the absence or poor communication of individualized care plans, which can complicate coordination between family members and clinical staff.

Dining and domestic services show a dichotomy: an on-site chef and praised meal options coexist with frequent complaints about cold or delayed meals, limited menu rotation, and shortages or substitutions without notification. Laundry and personal-item management emerged as another operational weaknessโ€”missing or misplaced belongings, slow turnaround, and concerns about how items are tracked and handled. Sanitation concerns in certain areas and inconsistent housekeeping were also reported alongside many accounts of clean, well-maintained rooms; this suggests variability in performance across shifts or units.

Facility and amenities are generally viewed positively where spaces are newer or recently updated: secure grounds, accessible layout, recreational rooms, and a hotel-like atmosphere in some wings. Conversely, reviewers noted parts of the building showing wear, small or dated rooms, and issues with accessibility thresholds. Transportation and offsite-appointment coordination were repeatedly identified as problem areas, including delayed or unprofessional transport services that affect timely hospital transfers or outpatient visits.

Management and communication are mixed themes. Positive experiences cited transparent admissions and helpful administrative coordination, while negative experiences pointed to defensive leadership, slow financial or refund processes, and unsatisfactory family communication about treatment plans and discharge timelines. Given this variability, notable patterns are (1) strong clinical rehabilitation capacity when staffing and scheduling align; (2) operational fragility tied to staffing levels that impact medication, hygiene, meal delivery, and laundry; and (3) inconsistent management responsiveness on billing and serious incident follow-up.

For prospective residents and families: an in-person visit that focuses on current staffing ratios, medication-administration protocols, laundry and belongings procedures, pressure-injury prevention and repositioning policies, therapy schedules, dining service routines, and transport arrangements will help assess whether the unit being considered reflects the facility's stronger or weaker patterns. Asking for copies of recent inspection results, staffing rosters for the unit, and examples of individualized care plans can also clarify how reliably the facility delivers on the strengths cited in some reviews.

    About Hillcrest Health & Rehab

Hillcrest Health & Rehab sits right in Bellevue, Nebraska, serving seniors with a wide set of care options, and folks can also find other locations in Papillion, Lincoln, Gretna, Omaha, and Council Bluffs, so there's always a nearby choice for those looking to stay closer to family or friends. The place offers long-term care, skilled nursing, independent and assisted living, memory support, palliative care, and even hospice care, and for those who don't need to move in full time, you'll see outpatient therapy clinics, adult day services, and home health care as well. They accept Medicare and most private insurance plans, which helps families figure out how to get folks the care needed without extra worry, and 24-hour support is there for long-term residents needing ongoing help in a safe place. Some rooms are private, and others are companion suites, and those Magnolia Terrace and Magnolia Circle neighborhoods feel a bit more secure for folks living with memory concerns. Their rehab center-which also claims Omaha's largest gym for therapies-lets older adults recover from surgery or illness, with physical, occupational, speech, and aquatic therapies right on site, all with help from Hillcrest's in-house and dedicated clinicians. Dr. Anthony Hatcher, the Chief Medical Officer, leads a clinical team building personalized care plans for everyone, and the shared electronic health record system means caregivers keep track of health information the right way. Seniors at this place can relax in amenity spots like the indoor garden, aviary, and aquarium, and the family-style dining-including meals at the 1702 Bistro with made-to-order recipes from their executive chef-brings people together, while lounges, a retro 50s family room, a chapel, and an outdoor courtyard with a playground add some enjoyment to daily life. Hillcrest works with partners like Innovate Physical Therapy and Hillcrest Home Care for extra supportive services, and they focus on recovery goals so folks can regain strength and maybe go back home sooner. For those who need higher levels of support, the compassionate Hillcrest team is trained for dementia care and provides special programming as well as layers of care to match different needs. The community also brings in support groups and activities for everyone, so there's a bit of social time and family involvement too, and senior residents can move between different kinds of living spaces-from cottages and villas to the grand lodge-depending on how much help is wanted or needed, which makes finding the right fit a bit easier. Hillcrest follows strict Federal civil rights laws including HIPAA privacy policies, putting care and safety first. They want to help seniors age without worry, and while there's no single way to make everyone happy, the range of care options and commitment to thoughtful service means many families looking for help find what they need here.
