    Caring staff, serious safety issues

I had a mixed experience. Many staff were warm, compassionate and professional-therapy, social work and nurses helped a lot-but chronic understaffing, poor communication and an unresponsive administration led to long call-bell waits, missed care (falls, missed meals/oxygen/meds) and dirty, sometimes unsafe conditions. I'm grateful for the caring individuals there, but I'd be cautious recommending the facility until staffing, cleanliness and safety improve.

    About Harris Hill Center

Harris Hill Center at 20 Maitland St in Concord, NH, offers skilled nursing care, medical services, and rehabilitation for seniors who need help with health or recovery, and there are both short-term stays for folks healing after a hospital visit and long-term spots for people who need ongoing support, and there's home care for those who want to stay in their own homes with the help of trained aides for companionship and non-medical needs. The center has 85 certified beds with an average of about 80 residents daily, and residents include those in independent living, assisted living, and memory care for conditions like Alzheimer's, with care programs designed by a Clinical Care Team, so plans are tailored to each person's needs, and there are around 3.32 nurse hours per resident per day, a bit below the state average, and more nurses have left than the state average, but staff are around and include on-call doctors and nurses who help whenever needed, and management is handled by Amy Auletto since June 2024 and Diane Morris since January 2022. The place has been owned by Genesis Healthcare, a for-profit company, for over 50 years, and over time has earned awards like Best of Senior Living and Best Activities, but it's also had 22 total inspection deficiencies, including 2 infection control-related, and sometimes fails to coordinate assessments before admission and to refer for more services when needed.

Harris Hill Center has private and semi-private rooms, all with climate control and private bathrooms, housekeeping, laundry, mail service, cable TV, internet, and phone service, there are activity rooms, common lounges, and pretty gardens and courtyards where folks and families gather, and the building has three floors and is fully air conditioned, and pets are allowed. There's a lot of care and therapy available, including physical, occupational, speech, and even respiratory therapies, with a Powerback Rehabilitation program and special help for joint replacement, wounds, amputation, pain, and medication management like IVs and Heparin, and they have diagnostic imaging like x-rays, support for wound care, diabetes and podiatry care, dementia care, and colostomy care.

The center provides restaurant-style dining or in-room meals, with a focus on good nutrition and meals that meet dietary needs, and residents can get counseling on nutrition if they want, and everyone gets help with their daily routines, personal care, and even planning for discharge to make sure the move out of Harris Hill Center goes smoothly when the time comes. There's a beauty salon and barbershop, transportation for outings or appointments, interpreter services, fitness and recreation options, and many cultural, social, religious, and educational activities, including pet therapy, crafts, groups, and plenty of visiting time in both cozy indoor spaces and the landscaped yards. Safety's in mind too, with alarm systems for folks with cognitive issues, and the community follows resident rights, including letting them self-administer medication if it's safe.

While the nursing hours and turnover rates are a bit under state averages, and there have been some inspection issues, staff aim to make Harris Hill Center a friendly, warm place with help and care for all sizes of needs, from independent seniors to those who need hospice or memory care, and the Clinical Care Team makes care plans with measurable steps and timetables, though sometimes there's room for improvement with coordination before folks move in. The staff and management focus on providing a comfortable, secure place with updated amenities, respectful support, and activities designed for social engagement and quality of life in every stage of aging.
