    Caring staff, comprehensive recovery support

I stayed here and was very pleased: the staff-especially Nurse Angela, the recovery coach, and the social worker-were caring, knowledgeable and responsive, and new management brought supportive programs, regular meetings and strong insurance advocacy that made this a safe, welcoming place to recover. My room was nice, the food good, doctors were available 24/7, therapy felt meaningful, and I'm grateful for the personal attention and would highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews reflect a facility with a mixture of clear strengths and repeated operational weaknesses. Clinical rehabilitation servicesโ€”particularly physical and occupational therapyโ€”are a consistent positive; families and residents describe meaningful therapy relationships, recovery coaching, and attentive therapy staff. Several reviewers also praised individual caregivers, social work support, and instances of responsive administration and insurance advocacy. Some units and common areas were described as welcoming, with activities and seasonal programming contributing to a more comfortable environment for visitors and residents.

At the same time, there are recurring concerns about the reliability of day-to-day clinical operations. Multiple accounts describe inconsistent medication administration, delays in arranging or delivering physician-directed treatments (including antibiotics and IV care), and prolonged response times to call bells and other urgent needs. These point to gaps in clinical coordination and staffing levels that affect timely care delivery. Reviewers also described problematic discharge and laboratory-handling processes that caused family distress and additional transitions to acute care.

Facility-level environmental issues were raised repeatedly. Reviewers cited sanitation concerns, pest-control shortcomings, and a range of maintenance problemsโ€”plumbing and fixture failures, nonfunctional sinks/toilets, loose outlets, and inadequate post-maintenance cleaningโ€”that affect resident comfort and safety. Dining and hydration were another area of mixed feedback: some families noted helpfully small-portioned meals and accessible staff, while others reported inconsistent meal quality, small portions, and insufficient attention to hydration.

Staff conduct and communication emerged as a major theme of variation. Many families described caring, friendly, and professional staff who advocated effectively and provided reassurance. Other reviewers reported unprofessional interactions, poor communication with families, inadequate explanations of clinical status, and concerns about privacy and HIPAA compliance. These divergent experiences suggest uneven staff training, supervision, and culture across shifts or units. A small number of reviews included serious claimsโ€”including concerns following a resident's death and allegations about medication practicesโ€”that families felt warranted escalation; such claims, when present, amplified calls for regulatory review or legal inquiry.

Management response appears to be evolving. Several families noted a change under new management and named follow-up from an administrator as a corrective action; others described longstanding issues that they felt were not adequately addressed prior to leadership changes. There is evidence that some improvements (program additions, more responsive leadership) have been implemented, but variability in unit-level oversight and outcomes persists.

Overall, prospective residents and families should weigh the facility's strong rehabilitation programming and some examples of compassionate caregiving against recurring operational concerns: medication and clinical coordination gaps, sanitation and maintenance issues, inconsistent meal/hydration practices, and variable staff professionalism and communication. A thorough, in-person tour (including multiple units and meal observation), direct questions about staffing levels, medication administration protocols, pest-control and maintenance schedules, and documentation of management follow-up on specific incidents would help clarify whether current corrective actions have addressed the issues important to your family.

    About Sterling Manor Nursing Center

Sterling Manor Nursing Center in Maple Shade, NJ, offers private, shared, and studio rooms, all furnished and with private bathrooms and kitchenettes, and you get things like cable TV, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and telephone access, so most rooms feel pretty comfortable, and the dining room has all-day service with restaurant-style meals and can provide options for people with allergies, diabetes, or special diets, which is important for some folks. There's help with things like bathing, dressing, and medication, and residents get supervision around the clock, with nurses on site for 12 to 16 hours daily. The care team supports transfers, mobility, and most activities of daily living, and the building has an emergency alert system and a 24-hour call system in case someone needs immediate help. Sterling Manor has a skilled nursing facility for short-term or long-term stays and takes Medicaid and Medicare payments, and you'll find services for both physical and mental health, including dementia care and addiction recovery programs like methadone maintenance and Suboxone, along with group and individual therapy and mental health activities, so people with different needs can get care here.

You'll also find housekeeping, laundry, move-in coordination, and concierge services included, and there are fitness programs, a fitness room, a movie theater, movie nights, arts and music programs, an art room, a library, a spa, a garden, and a game room, plus social spaces like the outdoor patio, transportation services, and parking, so there's usually something to do or somewhere to go if you want to. Sterling Manor can house up to 124 residents, but because the facility has had a Medicare cutoff, state investigations, and licensing troubles, with large fines over $330,000 and serious citations last year, all the residents have been relocated and there's a plan to close by January 31 unless something changes; the facility has had issues with finances and licensing, and the owners have been included in reports about profiteering. The facility also provides some home care services, has programs like My Adult Foster Care and My Senior Care Hub, and offers remote patient monitoring, care management, family engagement, electronic visit verification, and runs a food program for those living there. The staff have a lot of experience, especially with mental health and addiction care. Sterling Manor's main office hours are Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but it's closed on Sundays.
