    Warm professional staff, clean facility

I placed a loved one here and felt confident after an easy, smooth move-in. The staff - from admissions (Anda) to Nursing Director Shirley and Director Don - were consistently warm, attentive and professional; the building is clean, welcoming, has plenty of parking, solid physical therapy and responsive communication, so I would recommend this center.

    Summary of reviews

Across the set of reviews there is a clear split between strong, person-centered clinical and therapy strengths and recurring operational limitations. Many families and visitors praised the caregiving teams — nursing staff, aides, and therapists — for being compassionate, attentive, and effective, particularly the physical-therapy program and several named nursing leaders who provide visible support. Admissions and front-desk staff are frequently described as welcoming and helpful, and move-in/transfer experiences are often characterized as smooth. The facility's interior is regularly described as clean and home-like, with convenient parking and a comforting entrance greeting that gives families confidence on initial visits.

At the same time, reviewers repeatedly flagged staffing and operational patterns that affect day-to-day care. Short staffing and nurse shortages are a recurring theme, and reviewers linked staffing constraints to delays in attending to residents' needs and to variability in the quality of aide-level care. Several families described specific gaps in personal-care practices — inconsistent bathing schedules, laundry and clothing errors, and denture-handling concerns — which point to weaknesses in routine care processes and oversight. Relatedly, there are sanitation and odor concerns in some areas, and at least some reviews noted pest-control issues and intermittent heating/temperature problems tied to an aging physical plant.

Dining and nutrition emerged as another mixed area. Some reviewers praised mealtime assistance and staff who support feeding and weight improvement, while others noted inconsistent meal-service continuity, incorrect or missed meal orders, small portions, and concerns about nutritional monitoring and weight loss. Activity programming and mental-stimulation offerings were cited as limited by several families; reviewers seeking more interactive or therapeutic activities identified this as a gap in the resident experience.

Management and communication show a mixed pattern. Many reviewers commended specific administrators, the nursing director, and social-work staff for responsiveness and help with paperwork (including Medicaid assistance). Conversely, other families described slow responses to requests, perceived indifference from management, and gaps in follow-through; these communication inconsistencies have led some families to file complaints with regulatory agencies. There are also operational gaps in property controls and belongings handling, with reports of misplaced items and laundry errors suggesting room for improvement in inventory and tracking processes.

Overall, Ridgewood Center demonstrates clear strengths in compassionate bedside care, rehabilitation services, and an inviting admissions experience, which provide meaningful benefits for residents and families. Prospective residents should weigh those strengths against documented operational weaknesses — notably staffing variability, personal-care process gaps, inconsistent dining operations, activity limitations, and building maintenance issues — and consider direct questions about staffing ratios, activity schedules, property safeguards, infection/pest control, and access to on-site medical services during a tour. Families who prioritize strong therapy and warm bedside interactions may find the facility aligns with their needs, while those prioritizing consistently robust personal-care routines and comprehensive on-site medical access should probe further before making a placement decision.

    About Ridgewood Center

Ridgewood Center sits at 330 Franklin Turnpike in Ridgewood, New Jersey, where folks can count on skilled nursing, short-term rehab, long-term care, and memory care, all in a suburban area with gardens, walking paths, and a safe, smoke-free environment. The building houses 90 certified beds, with both private and semi-private rooms that have individual air conditioning controls and private bathrooms, so people can find some comfort while still being close to help if they need it, and the safety features like an emergency alert system, alarm systems for residents with cognitive deficits, and sprinklers all help keep things secure. Ridgewood Center accepts Medicare and Medicaid, operates as a for-profit corporation, and partners with the We Honor Veterans program, and it's received the AHCA Bronze Quality Award, which means some outside groups have recognized them for their efforts in quality and safety.

Residents can expect help with dressing, bathing, transfers, help walking or using wheelchairs, wound care, and medication management, along with nurse and physician care that stays available on-site, and services ranging from respiratory therapy, podiatry, psychiatric and dental support to pain management, dialysis, hospice care, and even more specialized treatments like IV therapy, bariatric and colostomy care, and orthopedics for folks recovering from joint replacement or injury. Therapies like physical, occupational, and speech therapy are available, sometimes as part of a contract, and there's a dedicated respite program to provide short-term relief when caregivers need a break. Activities of daily living don't get overlooked, either, and round-the-clock supervision and a call system mean someone's always around to help.

People who want to fill their days can join in movie nights, arts and crafts in the arts room, community-sponsored events, religious and educational programs, or just relax in the lounge areas, courtyard, or café where dining is available all day, plus room service if that's what someone prefers; there's garden space, a barber/salon for haircuts, and mail and newspaper delivery, so life can still feel normal. Access to computers, Wifi, cable TV, and recreation rooms adds some variety, and there's transportation and parking for trips out and about. The place keeps up with housekeeping and laundry, and there's a maintenance crew on-hand too, so residents don't have to worry about chores.

The center belongs to Genesis HealthCare, which runs more than 200 skilled nursing locations across the country and manages a large network of medical staff, so residents get the benefits of experienced support. Ridgewood Center also offers care for non-ambulatory residents, people with dementia, and chronically ill seniors, providing things like coordinated transportation, interpreter services for those who need them, case management, nutrition planning, and even therapy dogs now and then. Visitors notice Ridgewood Center keeps a 3.9 out of 5 rating for customer satisfaction, and the facility uses dedicated admission phone lines for better communication between families and staff. While the building and programs are set up to handle both short and long stays, folks can find options for comprehensive care-whatever their situation might call for.
