    Attentive compassionate clean cost-conscious care

I placed my mom at Promenade and am very pleased. The director is hands-on and the staff are attentive, patient and compassionate - nurses and cooks included - they learn residents by name, keep families informed, and truly go above and beyond. The apartment is clean and comfortable, the chef-prepared meals are excellent, and daily activities and exercise keep residents social and engaged. It's Medicaid-friendly, cost-conscious, offers individualized care, and I wholeheartedly recommend Promenade.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviewers convey a mixed but detailed picture. Many families praised the daily, hands-on care they observed, describing attentive aides, engaged nurses, and directors who develop relationships with residents. Multiple comments highlight strong admissions and marketing staff, helpful Medicaid/billing coordination, chef-prepared meals, active programming, and attractive private apartments. At the same time, a recurring set of operational concerns—some administrative and some clinical—appears across reviews and warrants careful inquiry by prospective residents and families.

Care and staff: The facility receives consistent positive notes for compassionate, person-focused caregiving from aides and activity staff. Residents and families frequently cite staff who encourage activity participation, learn individual preferences, and provide individualized attention in smaller units. However, reviewers also describe uneven clinical performance in certain areas: medication administration errors, gaps in sending records to outside providers, and uneven coordination between the health office and primary clinicians. Staffing instability and turnover were also mentioned as factors that can affect consistency of care and familiarity with residents' needs.

Dining and activities: Several reviews praise the culinary team and describe enjoyable, chef-prepared meals and a lively activity calendar with exercise, bingo, movies, and social programming. Conversely, others noted inconsistent food quality, limited dining capacity during infection-control periods, wait times, and occasional reductions in organized outings and transportation for recreational activities. The activity program appears robust in many units but may vary by floor or over time depending on staffing and occupancy.

Facility, environment, and maintenance: The physical environment elicits mixed reactions. Many reviewers describe modern, hotel-like private rooms, roomy bathrooms, and attractive common areas such as a salon and courtyard. The building is a repurposed structure with long corridors and some floors closed, which some find hotel-like and efficient while others find isolating and lacking a centralized community hub. Multiple accounts raise concerns about environmental risk management and maintenance continuity—examples include water events and sprinkler/flood incidents—that resulted in temporary closures or regulatory scrutiny. Pest-control and sanitation concerns are mentioned in some units; these are operational areas to verify during a visit.

Management, administration, and finance: Admissions and marketing staff are frequently singled out as helpful and informative, and the facility offers Medicaid/ALP financing and a billing coordinator to assist with spend-down issues. At the same time, reviewers describe inconsistent administrative communication, delays in responsiveness, confusing or last-minute move-in eligibility decisions, and high upfront nonrefundable entrance fees. Serious allegations around staff misconduct, including theft and financial irregularities, appear in some accounts; these are severe claims that family members should explicitly investigate with management and through background checks or regulatory records.

Patterns to watch and recommended questions: The dominant positive thread is strong, compassionate frontline staff and an active lifestyle program in many parts of the building. The dominant concerns are operational: medication and clinical-record coordination, environmental maintenance and infection-control oversight, administrative transparency, and financial/contract clarity. Prospective residents and families should tour during an active day, ask for written protocols on medication administration and record-sharing with outside providers, request maintenance and infection-control history (including any regulatory actions and corrective steps), review staffing ratios and turnover statistics for the intended unit, confirm dining schedules and capacity policies, and obtain full details of the entrance fee and refund policies. Verifying current occupancy, which floors are open, and observing mealtime and an activity session can help reconcile the mixed impressions reflected in these reviews.

    About Promenade at University Place

Promenade at University Place is a family-owned and operated assisted living community with memory care, offering Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, and a Senior Day Program. It has a dynamic social calendar and uses a holistic engagement approach with educational, cultural, and recreational activities, plus regular outings and social events. Residents have access to game rooms and fitness classes, and the campus features a well-stocked library, landscaped grounds, and an enclosed courtyard. Meals are served three times daily in a dining room, with an emphasis on nutrition and socialization, and the menus include a set menu with made-to-order options, plus snacks, while the culinary team coordinates with healthcare providers to meet diet modifications. On-site Wi-Fi, a library, and a movie room add to the amenities, and LiveWell™ Programs and home care programs are available.

Private suites, many with full kitchenettes, accessible renovated bathrooms, heating and air conditioning, emergency call systems, and housekeeping services, are offered; varied apartments may include a private bathroom, kitchenette, furnishings, individual climate controls, cable service, and the option to paint or decorate, with availability to confirm during a tour. Memory care floor plans include a 320 sq ft luxury suite with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, and stairs; a 240 sq ft private suite with a bedroom area, kitchenette, and private bathroom; and a 292 sq ft deluxe suite with a bedroom, bathroom, and kitchenette. On-site podiatry is available, and the facility can provide full assistance with bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting, with mobility support ranging from walker supervision to one-person transfers for wheelchair users. There is on-site parking, and some apartments are No Pets and No Parking.

The campus has a highly skilled 24-hour staff and an RN or LPN on site, with a nurse on call around the clock and an awake night shift. It includes background checks for all team members, door alarms, a fenced rear area, and in-room pull cords for safety. On-site medical professionals include an internist, podiatrist, and physical and occupational therapists, and a medication assistance program managed by licensed nurses with long-term medication management. Clinical protocols cover oxygen use, specialized diets, and diabetes managed by pills or insulin. Staff are trained to manage advanced dementia and related behaviors, so residents can stay in the same community even if needs change. The community also provides comprehensive resources and guidance for long-term care, family caregiving, and Long-term Care Insurance, plus transportation, scheduled trips, and proximity to public transit.
