    Caring staff, excellent rehab, family-like

I had a very positive experience - the staff were consistently caring, respectful and attentive, from nurses and CNAs to therapists and administration. The recently renovated, very clean and secure facility provided excellent rehab, hot tasty meals, 24/7 dementia supervision, and activities that kept my loved one engaged. Communication was strong (regular video updates during the pandemic) and my family felt included, so I happily recommend this professional, family-like place.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a strongly mixed picture of Caton Park Nursing Home. Many families and former residents describe compassionate, attentive staff and a rehabilitation program that produced positive outcomes for some patients. The facility has a secure memory-care area with continuous supervision, an activities program that includes Spanish-language offerings, and several recently renovated rooms and common areas. Security and reception staff are frequently praised, and the facility’s Medicare rating is cited positively by some reviewers.

Care and staffing evaluations vary substantially. Positive accounts emphasize staff who know residents by name, prompt attention, and nurses or aides who “go above and beyond.” At the same time, a recurring operational concern is inconsistent staffing levels that contribute to delays in attending to resident needs and slow call-bell response. Several family members described medication-administration issues and timing problems (for example, delayed insulin), and there are accounts that raise questions about communication between shifts and among clinical staff. There is also at least one allegation of a physical incident involving a roommate and broader concerns following a resident's death that prompted requests for further review; those items suggest families should ask about incident reporting and oversight procedures when assessing the facility.

Dining and activities receive mixed feedback. Multiple reviewers praised hot, well-prepared meals and a responsive kitchen team, while others described inconsistent meal quality and issues with meal temperature and dietary accommodations. The therapy and rehabilitation teams are often highlighted as a strength — several reviewers credited physical and occupational therapy with meaningful recovery — but not all rehabilitation experiences were positive; therapy outcomes appear to vary by individual case and by clinician.

Facility condition and management also show contrasts. Several comments note clean, recently renovated spaces and a welcoming small-facility atmosphere. Conversely, some areas appear to need maintenance, and there are sanitation and odor concerns reported in particular locations. Operational weaknesses reported include limited front-desk coverage, voicemail and phone-management problems, scheduling failures (including transportation to appointments), missing personal items, and uneven availability of social-work or family-liaison support. A number of reviewers expressed concerns about staff conduct and communication tone; these reflect a need to evaluate workplace culture and supervisory responsiveness.

Overall, Caton Park demonstrates clear strengths in personalized caregiving, therapy services, security, and certain renovated spaces. However, reviewers also identify recurring operational gaps — notably inconsistent staffing, unreliable communication channels, medication-timing issues, roommate-safety processes, and variable dining quality — that materially affect family experience and perceived resident safety. Prospective residents and families should schedule an in-person tour focused on current staffing levels, medication administration protocols, incident reporting and roommate-placement policies, therapy staff credentials and outcome tracking, dining samples and diet accommodations, and the availability of a designated family liaison. Reviewing recent inspection reports and speaking directly with administration about how longstanding concerns have been addressed will help form a more complete assessment for individual needs.

    About Caton Park Nursing Home

Caton Park Nursing Home sits right at 1312 Caton Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11226, just across from the Prospect Park Parade Grounds, and this place is made for seniors who need different levels of help, whether it's for the short or long term, and you see right away they've thought about safety because visitor hours run from 10AM to 8PM but they make sure people follow CDC protocols like PPE and social distancing when they come in. Dr. Isaac Madeb runs things here, and the whole team-from the nurses and therapists to the social workers and security guards-seems caring, and you notice the staff provides 24-hour nursing care so residents get attention through the night if something comes up, and you can see that everyone, including CNAs and activity leaders, does their jobs with skill and kindness, and folks look well cared for, which always matters. The nursing home offers housing that's tailored for folks who need full support, and there are 119 beds in this modern building, which has a clean and comfortable feel, and besides regular nursing care, they've also set things up for rehab whether someone's coming straight from the hospital or settling in for a longer stay. The care takes in people with both physical and mental health needs, and you see them use a holistic approach to cover not just the standard medical support but also daily living help, like housekeeping and laundry, with prepared meals-usually one or two a day-served right there in the facility, which keeps things easy. The home does a lot with lab work too-ALT, Albumin, Amylase, cholesterol, influenza, urinalysis, and several more-even COVID-19 antigen or molecular tests, and it holds a waiver certificate for getting those tests done on-site for their residents, which means less shuffling back and forth to doctors, and if you look around, you always spot activities happening to help keep people active mentally and physically. Meals are wholesome, and daily programs give everyone something to look forward to, so the days aren't just about medical care but about living in a way that's comfortable for each resident. The center makes sure the environment is suited for older people who need consistent professional and loving care, offering both short-term rehab and longer stays, and the staff seems to take pride in keeping everything safe and friendly. If someone wants to visit, there's a map feature to help find the place, and the listing can be updated for community info as needed. All in all, Caton Park Nursing Home gives seniors and families a place where ongoing nursing, rehab, and general healthcare come together, with a professional team that always seems ready to help when things get difficult and with the comforts that many elders hope for when they need extra support.
