    Warm community with concerning management

I placed a loved one here and overall found a clean, homey community with warm, attentive staff, good meals, plentiful activities, medical support, and lovely dining/common areas - move-in felt personal. It's pricey, pricing/extra charges were confusing, and I encountered uneven management, communication lapses, staffing shortages and a few serious care concerns that kept me vigilant. If you can afford it and stay involved, the staff gave us peace of mind, but it isn't perfect.

    About Sunrise of Staten Island

Sunrise of Staten Island sits in a lively neighborhood and has a classic-looking mid-rise building with landscaped grounds, a covered entryway, and a grand two-story foyer with comfortable seating for visitors and residents, while the place offers different apartment types like studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom options, which makes it possible for people to pick what fits their needs and lets folks have a bit of personal space and privacy, and the apartments in memory care have extra touches like accessible bathrooms with grab bars for safety and some studios have full kitchens, showing they keep safety and comfort in mind. This community makes room for pets, so people who love their animals can bring them, and you'll find outdoor patios with pergolas, wicker furniture, lush plants, a memory care porch with rocking chairs and flower baskets, and inside there's a cozy fireside lounge, a bistro with a jukebox and coffee bar, and dining rooms with light green tablecloths and floral chairs, where skilled chefs cook up meals every day.

Residents can join in programs-there are daytime and evening activities every day, and things like cooking classes, rides to local attractions several times a week, a daily conditioning club to stay fit, and activities that work on the mind, body, and spirit, and family and friends are welcome to join in on outings and events as the community tries to keep everyone connected. Sunrise of Staten Island is well known for both assisted living and memory care, so folks who need a hand with daily things like bathing or taking medicine, or who have memory loss or dementia, can get the care and support they need, and there's always staff for round-the-clock nursing if someone needs more help, and specialized memory care programs like Reminiscence Program and Terrace Club are on offer for people with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.

The building is handicap accessible, has Wi-Fi and high-speed internet, and offers transportation for residents who need to go out, so life feels more flexible and active for older adults whether they're active and independent or need extra care. Sunrise of Staten Island offers different types of living, including independent living for healthy seniors who want a lively social setting and don't need help, assisted living with support for daily routines, skilled nursing for those with medical needs, respite and short-term stays, hospice care, and Dignity Home Care for folks who want support at home with everyday things or companionship.

Services are organized with an executive director at the helm and a well-liked concierge, Linda Myers, who's known for being honest, caring, kind, and helpful to residents and families. The community keeps up to date with the latest aging research and has been around for more than 35 years, with a focus on bringing quality and innovation to how residents live, and being part of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce means they're active locally in business and community events. The management encourages residents to take part in activities while respecting their privacy, and offers both maintenance-free living and continuing care, so seniors can find a place to fit their changing needs right on one campus.

People who need extra attention get personalized help, and everything's done with a holistic approach that centers on what each person wants or needs, whether it's restaurant-style dining in a bright room, joining a club, taking a walk outdoors, or having peace of mind knowing there's help around at any time. Sunrise of Staten Island has a 3.9 out of 5 rating from 24 reviews and keeps its doors open 24 hours a day to give support whenever it's needed.

Sunrise communities feature Individualized Service Plans, Designated Care Managers, and welcome pets, with many locations maintaining community cats or dogs.
