    Compassionate staff and excellent rehabilitation

I had a very good experience - attentive, compassionate nurses and CNAs, supportive administration, and skilled PT/OT/SLP staff who got me back on my feet. Staff treated me like family, gave clear communication and emotional support, and the rehab and daily care exceeded my expectations. I recommend this facility for short- or long-term stays.

    Summary of reviews

Across the collected reviews New Glen Oaks Nursing Home is repeatedly characterized by strong, relationship-driven caregiving and a rehabilitation program that achieves demonstrable functional gains for many residents. Families and former residents frequently praise direct-care staff โ€” CNAs, LPNs and RNs โ€” and specialist therapists for attentive, compassionate care; reviewers cite examples of improved mobility, successful reconditioning, wound and skin-care resolution, and supportive end-of-life attention. The facilityโ€™s small, boutique scale and hands-on administrative presence are consistently described as contributors to a family-like atmosphere and personalized attention.

Rehabilitation services are a clear strength. Physical, occupational and speech therapy teams are singled out for skilled, outcome-focused work and for offering a range of modalities and frequent therapy availability (including seven-day services in some reports). Recreation and engagement activities are noted as active and meaningful, and many families describe visible progress in ADLs and mobility after short-term stays. Nursing leadership and specific aides receive repeated praise for timely personal-care tasks and clear communication with families about clinical status.

Dining and hospitality elements are mixed. Numerous reviewers commend the kosher/Glatt kosher offerings and overall meal service, while others indicate inconsistent food quality or difficulty meeting special dietary needs. The facility is often described as clean and well-maintained in resident rooms and public areas, but the building is also described as dated; multiple comments recommend cosmetic updates or a fuller renovation. Limited on-site parking and constrained physical space are practical considerations for visitors.

Operational and safety-related patterns emerge that prospective families should probe. Several comments raise concerns about sanitation practices and incontinence-care processes in parts of the facility, and there are repeated references to pharmacy or medication-delivery delays and intermittent medication-administration gaps. Staffing consistency and nursing-station coverage are cited as issues at times, with associated lapses in responsiveness. Front-desk and telephone responsiveness, along with the availability and reliability of emergency-call systems, are additional operational weaknesses noted by reviewers. There are also mentions of administrative problems such as billing and insurance handling, including at least one allegation of improper insurance/discharge processing that families should investigate during intake.

In summary, New Glen Oaks appears to excel in person-centered caregiving and rehabilitation outcomes within a small, family-oriented environment supported by hands-on leadership. At the same time, the facility shows recurring, facility-level limitations: an aging physical plant, operational gaps in medication/pharmacy coordination, intermittent staffing and communication shortfalls, and some sanitation and emergency-system concerns. Prospective residents and families would benefit from an on-site visit focused on current staffing ratios and coverage, medication-delivery protocols, emergency-call functionality, specific dietary accommodations, and recent maintenance or renovation plans to ensure the facilityโ€™s strengths align with the prospective residentโ€™s medical and logistical needs.
