    Beautiful facility, attentive staff, recommended

I had a very positive experience at this beautiful, clean facility - private rooms, pleasant smell, and comfortable accommodations. The staff were attentive and caring: the rehab team was very helpful, nurse Megan and Bonnie stood out, and Terry was charming and accommodating. Dietary needs were well met and the memory-care program is well run; I highly recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews indicate a facility with clear strengths at the frontline and notable operational weaknesses that may affect overall quality of care. Families and visitors frequently praise direct-care staff โ€” particularly certified nursing assistants โ€” and rehabilitation therapists for attentive, helpful interactions. Individual nurses were also singled out positively for compassion and clinical support. The building and resident rooms are described as attractive and generally clean, with private-room availability and a pleasant interior atmosphere. The memory-care program and the ability to accommodate dietary needs receive positive comments from multiple sources.

Despite these frontline strengths, a recurring pattern of staffing and clinical oversight problems is evident. Multiple accounts describe persistent understaffing and high staff-to-resident ratios that contribute to delays in attending to resident needs, including slow responses to call lights and assistance requests. Reviewers raise concerns about nurse competency in some shifts and about gaps in medication-administration controls; one review references a severe medication error, and another describes concerns following a resident's death. These items point to systemic risks in clinical supervision and medication safety that prospective families should investigate further.

Operationally, reviewers note high staff turnover and wage/retention pressures that correlate with inconsistent care continuity. Documentation and communication practices are also areas of concern: families describe instances of limited or delayed communication after incidents, difficulty reaching management, and an asserted pattern of record-keeping irregularities. While frontline employees are frequently described as caring and responsive, management responsiveness and accountability are characterized as inconsistent, and some reviewers indicate that complaints are more likely to prompt accommodations than routine practice improvement.

Dining and activities elicit mixed feedback. Several reviewers appreciate individualized dietary accommodations and the attentiveness of dietary staff, while others describe inconsistent meal quality and dissatisfaction with some offerings. Activity and memory-care programming are noted positively by those who participate, but the level of engagement may vary by unit and by staff availability.

Facility amenities and housekeeping generally receive favorable comments: physical accommodations are described as attractive, and common areas are maintained, though a few reviewers cite sanitation or localized odor concerns. Private rooms are available and viewed as a benefit by families who desire them.

In summary, prospective residents and families will find strong, empathetic direct-care staff and therapy services alongside a facility that is physically appealing in many respects. At the same time, repeated concerns about staffing levels, clinical oversight, medication controls, documentation practices, and management responsiveness represent operational risks that warrant direct inquiry. If considering this facility, ask for current staffing ratios, medication-safety protocols, recent inspection or audit results, examples of management follow-up on family concerns, and references from families currently using memory-care or rehab services to gauge consistency of care over time.

About Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid

Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid sits in Lake Placid and works as a nursing home focused on senior care, long-term living, and recovery services, and you can tell right away they've thought a lot about comfort and support since they added so many wellness and spa features to encourage health and relaxation, plus two gyms for rehab work. People looking for more than just medical help will find a mix of independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, and even home care, with short-stay rehab and special programs covering palliative care, oncology, respiratory therapy, and a memory care unit with secure spaces. The facility's got daily housekeeping, laundry service, paved walking paths, private rooms, and a big courtyard garden that shows off the mountain views, plus there's a chapel-in-the-round and a greenhouse so residents can keep up with nature year-round, even from a wheelchair, and there's a Sister of Mercy convent on site for those feeling spiritual or wanting some familiar faces around.

You'll notice there are plenty of chances to socialize or join in on events, like during holidays, or when Lake Placid gets busy with happenings like the IRONMAN and Film Festival, as well as spiritual programs and arts events, so life feels active if you want it to. Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid gives each resident a personalized care plan whether they're there for long-term or just a short stay for therapy after surgery or illness, and there's a wing just for subacute rehab. The care team takes time to guide families and residents through decisions, and help explain things like long-term care insurance so nobody feels lost. Safety features and the medical team on campus, even with its own emergency room, labs, therapy gyms, and a medical office, mean help's close by for everyday needs or emergencies, and the staff's used to working with memory impairment and rehabilitation cases as much as just helping with daily activities. The dining experience aims for pleasant meals every time, and there's a strong focus on making the living spaces bright and comfortable.
