    Bright homey facility, excellent staff

My mom lives here and I'm very pleased - the bright, new, well-kept facility feels homey, her room and the terrace are comfortable, and the dining area serves excellent, health-conscious meals. The staff (Terri, Chris and Paul especially) are kind, attentive and responsive, administration is supportive, and we feel safe and cared for. There's a great range of daily and weekly activities - exercise, arts & crafts, movie/game nights and ice-cream Sundays - so mom is social, happy, and I would recommend this facility.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews portray the Terrace at Newark Assisted Living Community as a small, recently updated, and well-kept facility with a strong emphasis on resident comfort and social engagement. Families repeatedly describe a bright, clean environment with comfortable rooms, attractive common spaces (including a terrace, salon, and soda/sundae social events), and pleasant outdoor walking areas. The setting is described as homelike and relaxing, which many families found suited their relatives.

Care and staff: The facility’s caregiving team is frequently characterized as compassionate, professional, and responsive. Reviewers emphasize attentive, respectful interactions, resident advocacy by staff, and specific staff members who are knowledgeable and accessible. These strengths contribute to families’ peace of mind and a perception that residents are safe and well looked after. At the same time, several comments indicate intermittent staffing shortages that can reduce the amount of time caregivers have for individualized attention; reviewers recommend monitoring staffing stability and shift coverage as an operational risk.

Dining: Dining is a notable strength. The community is described as having chef-prepared meals, a health-conscious selection, and special food events (ice-cream/sundae afternoons) that residents enjoy. Some reviewers noted smaller portion sizes and limited on-demand meal flexibility—meals are often what was prepared that day—so families who require specific portioning or frequent menu substitutions should clarify options with management.

Activities and social life: Activity programming is robust and varied, with regular weekly schedules that include arts and crafts, music, movie nights, sing-a-longs, bingo, games, puzzles, and exercise classes. These offerings appear to support socialization, new friendships, and physical strengthening for residents. Reviewers mention fewer off-site outings relative to on-site options; prospective families should ask about the frequency of external trips if off-campus activities are important.

Facilities and amenities: The building is described as new or newly refreshed, with clean, bright common areas and adequate private rooms. Amenities such as a salon, communal dining space, and outdoor walking trails contribute to a resort-like, community feel. The facility’s smaller scale is associated with a family-like atmosphere, but it can also mean more limited capacity and resources compared with larger providers.

Management and policies: Administration is generally characterized as responsive; reviewers highlight prompt issue resolution, clear communication, and owners who are present and engaged. There are, however, notes about recent management transitions and administrative changes that prospective families may want to track. Financial and placement considerations are important: reviewers pointed to private-pay barriers and limitations in Medicaid acceptance for memory-care placements, which may affect affordability and access. Additionally, some families expressed concern about resident risk-labeling practices that could affect autonomy; clarifying care-planning, risk-assessment, and freedom-of-movement policies before move-in is advisable.

Notable patterns and recommendations: The dominant themes are high-quality interpersonal care, strong social programming, and a clean, welcoming physical environment. The main operational cautions are intermittent staffing constraints, limited off-site outings, meal flexibility trade-offs, leadership turnover, and insurance/payment limitations for memory care. Prospective residents and families should tour the facility, meet key staff, review staffing ratios and care plans, confirm payment/insurance acceptance, and ask about outing schedules and meal accommodation policies to ensure the community fits their priorities.

About Terrace at Newark Assisted Living Community

Terrace at Newark Assisted Living Community supports both assisted living and memory care for seniors who need daily help or special care for dementia, and you'll find things like staff who assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, and medication, as well as people who know how to help folks move safely from beds to wheelchairs, and even diabetic care with help monitoring insulin. The facility has licensed nurses, 24-hour staff, and an emergency call system in every apartment; there's always someone nearby if help's needed, and the staff are known to be kind, friendly, and helpful with visitors and residents alike. Residents get chef-prepared meals three times a day, with snacks too, and the kitchen team works to serve healthy and balanced food that can be made to fit dietary needs, including allergies or diabetes, so nobody has to worry about cooking or groceries unless they want to.

The apartments are described as spacious, with private bathrooms and showers, and they're climate controlled, include cable TV, high-speed internet, and a phone, and can be furnished for comfort, which seems to help make things easier for people moving in. There are indoor common spaces, so residents can chat or play games, and lots of spaces for relaxing or social time, like a 1950s-style ice cream parlor, a beauty salon for easy grooming, a dining room for meals, and private dining if someone's got company or a special meal. There are outdoor gardens and walking paths for folks who still like to be outside, plus a game room, arts room, a music area, movie nights, library, fitness room, wellness spa, activity lounge, media room, and regular events to foster social interaction.

Regular activities, events, and programs run every day to help keep people moving, thinking, and visiting, and activities are usually based on what residents like. For memory care, the community offers a secure, supervised environment with therapies and routines to keep folks with memory loss comfortable, oriented, and safe from wandering, so families can have some peace of mind. Housekeeping and laundry are taken care of, so residents and families don't have that worry, and transportation is available for medical appointments, outings, and family visits, which makes life easier for many.

Terrace at Newark Assisted Living Community focuses on personal care and well-being, tries to help each person live with dignity, and offers help for people with mild cognitive impairment or non-ambulatory needs. The setting mixes rural charm with village events, providing both a cozy atmosphere and a community with things to do. This facility has been recognized in the Best of Senior Living awards for its care and programs, so folks looking for a supportive and active assisted living or memory care facility can consider Terrace at Newark as an option that covers a wide range of daily living needs without a lot of fuss.
