    Immaculate community with excellent amenities

I moved my mom here and I'm very pleased - beautiful, immaculately kept apartments (studios-2BR), full kitchens, in-unit laundry and large closets. The staff are warm and welcoming, programming is outstanding (mahjong, cards, live music, trips), amenities are excellent (indoor/outdoor pools, gym, library, arts & crafts, sauna), dining is very good, and the shuttle to doctors/shopping makes this a safe, lively community I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

The Residences at Plainview presents as a newly built, well‑appointed independent living community with a broad array of amenities and a strong emphasis on resident social life. Reviewers consistently describe clean, attractive public spaces and large, thoughtfully designed apartments (studios through two‑bedrooms) with conveniences such as in‑unit laundry and full kitchens. The physical plant includes multiple pools, a fitness center, library, arts and crafts room, and other recreational niches that support an active lifestyle.

Staff and management are frequently characterized as warm, responsive and hands‑on. Families describe attentive move‑in assistance, active communication from the executive team, and staff who go beyond routine duties to support residents. On the clinical side, there is praise for care coordination (doctors visiting, physical therapy services) while the overall model is framed as independent living rather than assisted or transitional care.

Dining and activities are central to the community’s appeal: the program offers three meals per day, social dining, vegetarian options, frequent themed events, live music, happy hours, and outings. Many families report that these elements bolster resident well‑being and social connection. At the same time, there is a clear pattern of unevenness in the dining experience—menu changes, chef turnover, and instances of meal‑service interruptions have been called out, and management appears to be addressing these issues.

Observed operational weaknesses align with what is typical for a newer, higher‑end independent living community. Price point and affordability are consistent concerns; the community is positioned at a premium level. Staffing turnover—particularly in dining—along with some maintenance response delays and unresolved minor repairs are recurring themes. A few reviewers noted a mismatch between marketing impressions and everyday experience, and others highlighted that the environment can feel large or formal for residents seeking a smaller, more homelike setting. There are also mentions of unit access control vulnerabilities tied to key/credit‑card entry that warrant attention.

Overall, the facility scores strongly for ambience, amenities, staff warmth, and the volume of activities, making it well suited to older adults seeking an independent, socially active lifestyle with on‑site services. Prospective residents and families should weigh the high cost, the community’s independent‑living focus (not a transitional/assisted setting), and the potential for episodic service variability—especially in dining and minor maintenance—when deciding whether it meets their needs. Management responsiveness to dining quality, maintenance timeliness, security controls, and structured social integration for new residents are the principal areas where future improvements would most affect resident satisfaction.

    About The Residences at Plainview

The Residences at Plainview by Chelsea Senior Living sits in Plainview within the Somerset Gardens community and offers a wide range of care, including independent living, assisted living, short VIP stays, memory care called The Cottage, and access to a mental health program and general counseling services. The building used to be an extended-stay Marriott hotel but has been renovated to suit active adults aged 55 and older, and now features modern apartments in studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom layouts with both formal and informal dining spaces, including a farm-to-table restaurant called Windows on Central Park led by Director Michael Fitzpatrick. Residents can enjoy indoor and outdoor pools, a golf putting green, landscaped walking paths, a fully stocked library, a fitness center, a movie theater, a multipurpose room, and a full-service salon, plus spaces for activities and clubs that run day and night, and there's always something happening with a full calendar of events, trips, card games, and live entertainment.

The staff in the community have a reputation for being helpful and kind, with on-site therapies, physical therapy, a 24-hour call system, and services like medication management or help with dressing available as needed, and there's a focus on promoting independence through personalized programming, access to wellness models with smart technology, and plenty of daily interaction. Specialized programs like The Cottage use sensory therapies for memory care and there's a hospice waiver in place for those who need support at the end of life. Seniors get a mix of freedom and assistance, and they can take part in social outings, dessert nights with family, lunch trips, happy hours, lively parties with live music, and celebrations, plus community-run committees and clubs play a big role in organizing and supporting events.

There's a strong sense of community with residents taking part in activity planning and the Lifestyle Specialists ensuring activities follow their interests, while the grounds boast thoughtful features like a gazebo and gardens for fresh air, and many indoor spaces for games, reading, or simply visiting with neighbors. The community focuses on keeping things clean and up-to-date, offers both private and shared spaces for dining or events, supports social connections, and emphasizes a balance between comfort and engagement, so residents really can enjoy an active, supportive lifestyle whether living fully independently or with some level of care. Prospective residents can tour the grounds in person or online through a virtual tour, and the community also shares resources, success stories, and news through its website to give an inside look at daily life. Transportation services help with trips around Long Island and to local spots, and round-the-clock concierge services ease daily tasks like home maintenance and making appointments, helping make life a bit simpler and more enjoyable for everyone.
